Everton seek full disclosure over Man City Covid outbreak

Post by GodIsADeeJay81 » Mon Dec 28, 2020 9:56 pm

Everton are asking for access to the Covid outbreak data that the PL used to justify suspending the game.

Apparently there aren't any clearly defined rules in regards to game suspension for Covid and when Newcastle had to call off one of their games recently, the information wasn't made available to other clubs.

From what I've read City already had positive tests for Walker and Jesus, then a further 3 players and 2 staff members tested positive.
I think there is a belief that the game didn't need to be called off just for 5 players being ill, but no parameters have been released as yet.

City stayed at a hotel for a recent away game down in London and the outbreak has been traced back to there.

Maybe it’s time to reiterate to players, managers & staff that the rest of the world, no matter how often they are tested, aren’t going around hugging each other at their place of work.
For all the talk of football losing fans over VAR, refereeing decisions and the general softening of the game, nothing riles me more at this time than seeing players and managers ignoring the rules the rest of us are living by in “normal life”
When Project Restart (🤮) began there were protocols barring all this non essential physical interaction, now it seems to have been forgotten simply because they get tested twice a week.
When the people on the front line dealing with the real problems can’t put their arm round a colleague at the end of a long shift why should footballers be allowed to?

Anyone know how the 2 Newcastle players are progressing with "long covid?"

I'm down in London. From what I'm hearing and seeing the new mutation is "everywhere" and it's impacting a lot of schools, primary age as well as secondary. It would have been easy for a member of City's squad to become infected when down in London - when no one knew about the new mutation and go back to Manchester and it to spread amongst other members of the squad and beyond.

I can understand Everton asking why their game was postponed. However, if the doctors/scientists are saying that the game should not be played that is good enough for me.

Lacelles and Saint Maximin, clearly not doing that well, both expected to be out for a number of weeks yet apparently

In our early games this season we sometimes had 5,6 and 7 players out injured and yet no postponements

Simple solution in Rugby Union. Team who effectively calls the game off is penalised by forfeiting the game with a 22-0 loss recorded.

I wonder if City, faced with a 3-0 loss, would not have fulfilled the fixture? One of the largest squads in the league. "They're havin a laff!"

I’m expecting this round of fixtures to be the last of this season.

Seriously, why? Premier League Football is as safe as any potential activity anywhere at present. To stop elite level football again would be pointless in my opinion.

If we keep seeing more players testing positive it’s inevitable, I fear that the Everton game will be the first of many.

The fact that are testing and getting positive gives some control.

City stopped at a Hotel before a game in London?
Even before the new variant was known that is the most stupid thing imaginable. What is it from Manchester to London, 3 hours. In a couple of luxury coaches. Get in, get played, get out. They are taking the wee wee thinking their luxury lifestyle can continue as before. Utterly ridiculous.

They actually travelled there and back in a day but used a hotel as a base for food I believe, what else are they meant to do?

Conflicting report then, I apologise, the report I read this morning stated they travelled there and back in a day....

Or they could have been fed at the stadium or training complex of the team they were visiting?

Tend to agree with this. I want to see football continue, but it does appear that protocols are being followed more casually. Also echo the point as to why City are using hotels.

I wouldnt like to think football is suspended because one high profile club is affected.Seven of twelve League One fixtures are off for similar reasons .

Why are there more postponements lower down the leagues (League one and two)?

Are players at a lower level no adhering to the rules in the same way as PL footballers are supposed to do?

Possibly they're not able to put in place the same level of precautions/protection for their players and staff that PL and Championship clubs are due to cost.

Unlikely that Ben Mee's injured back or Robbie Brady's hamstring would transmit infection to other teams.

I don't think it's the players that they know have got covid-19 is the concern, it's the ones that they don't yet know they've got it and could go on to infect others.

I would imagine that if the game had gone ahead, and man city won the game and in so doing infected a dozen everton staff members and players, then Everton would be demanding to know why the game was allowed to go ahead.

Well yes, but they’re perfectly at rights to request more details about the postponement too.

Re lower leagues virus testing regimes, down here in Suffolk Ipswich have five players out with COVID as well as Paul lambert, he has stated that they have been tested six or seven times since July, whereas I believe that EPL players are tested twice a week. Lambert has also stated that a couple of those tests were funded personally by the Ipswich Chairman Marcus Evans.

Plainly they are not following the space, face, hands protocols in public when they score a goal etc.

It would seem sensible to ban all football in all tier 4 areas/tier 4 area teams.
