It's hard enough coming in to a depleted side, and worse still playing out of position.
Very true. He's only there because the other Wingers in our youth setup are too young. Normally it would be Glennon but he's injured. (Whilst Glennon is a better winger than Benson he's still a full back).
Benson is a clear Central midfielder. Makes Hendrick look like a winger and that's saying something.

Bit of a slow half, feel we have another gear or two. Wood and Barnes both missing big chances. Need to up our game and put this to bed - a very important half now for us.

Decent half given injuries. Good goal and Barnes and wood could both have scored but for great saves by keeper. Wood’s especially I thought was in. A good effort, great cross and even better save

Poor first half.
I have sympathy with Benson, but he’s 5 yards off the pace with his pressing and Wood is constantly having to direct him and/or come across to his side to close down.
Barnes is more interested in winning fouls that anything else.
There’s nothing wrong with our creativity, we just have two strikers desperately out of form and confidence.
I’ll be delighted if we can hang on to this 1-0.

Wood trying to use skill there reminds me of failing to do skills in Pro Evo with the right analogue stick.
Great analogy.

I know Benson has come on as an early sub. I have been watching him in particular-no fault of his but this is all beyond him. Ball watching and chasing shadows. After the Leeds game just cant see why Stephens did not come on. I know it means probably Brownhill going right side but its severely restricted us.

Passing a bit sloppy and chances missed, but not too bad. We're winning, that's the main thing.

Makes you wonder what they see in him, McNeil came tearing out of the blocks in his first game but this guy remains a little undercooked.
Glad to see Brady getting back to his best, going to get a new deal at this rate

Certainly need to take our chances. Thought Mee's header was excellent given his position. Good effort to be one nil up after losing such an important player so early.

We can't move Brownhill, he's very much our ball winner in the middle. It's tough on Benson but he earns a wage and will learn from this. I'm glad Wood is "coaching" him TBH, shows real professional attitude.

How? Was it a great save or did it hit his arm? I think goalie just made himself big!!
He did but when Tom did it at OT it was a great save so give the lad his due.

I think the criticism of Benson against Leeds and tonight is a bit harsh, if not very.
He’s a central midfielder and barely got any experience playing out of position in the Premier League in two very important games. He has shown his ability in the games where he has played in centre mid so to say he is ‘out of his depth’ is too much for me and perhaps needs to be caveated with ‘in this position’.

We'd need to take somebody off. Which would make it more unbalanced, unless we take Westwood or Brownhill off.

Commentary team and “experts” seem fine to me - acknowledging their keeper has made 2 excellent saves, agreeing that Ben Mee’s finish was class and that the VAR was correct with penalty decision.

Going to jump in here , I think Benson has something about him, just think he is being played out of position, its really tough as a young player. I like that Wood is coaching him as well. Some young lads take time to settle and gain confidence. If he can get a few ninety minutes I think he will really surprise a few.
