Shout out to Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Glennon, Josh Benson, Joel Mumbongo and Lewis Richardson
A very quick shout out to the aforementioned quartet, who have all had a valuable taste of first team football this season. You could add Max Thompson for his cameo at Man City too, at the back end of last season.
Our club have 16 points, have pulled clear of the drop-zone and also progressed through a few rounds of the league cup: all this has happened alongside giving our youngsters time with the first team. Others not mentioned have been named in matchday squads. This should surely be celebrated.
Yes we need players, yes we’re threadbare but these lads have done us and themselves proud.

That's very BBC calling him Driscoll-Glennon - always been just Glennon at Burnley

Glennon can always fall back on his Beatles tribute band career if football doesnt work out.

Josh Benson in particular has really sparkled when given his opportunity. Hopefully he is a diamond in the rough. Very impressed so far. Not seen enough of the others to comment though.

These young lads need our support, as do all of our team.
Those who feel the need to have a go at them, "WIND YOUR NECK IN" and support them, or keep quiet !

Re: Shout out to Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Driscoll-Glennon and Josh Benson.
Good to see so many youngsters breaking through into the first team or matchday squad, it's great experience for those who actually play, and even for those who don't make it onto the pitch it's valuable experience just being involved with the 1st team squad, after many years of stagnation hopefully our development system is finally starting to bear fruit, if we can even bring 1 or 2 through that can make the grade, this could save the club millions in the long run, and even those that aren't quite up to PL standard we might be able to sell on to Championship or lower league clubs.
Apart from Dwight we haven't produced any 1st team ready players through our academy since Jay Rod, so it's wonderful to finally see some young talent emerging, and with the right encouragement they'll hopefully continue on their learning curve, fans have been crying out for ages to see young blood incorporated into our first XI, so now it's happening at last let's back them to the hilt.

Re: Shout out to Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Driscoll-Glennon and Josh Benson.
Yes, some damning comments for one of that four on last night's game. A thin squad to begin with, more injuries and so thrown in at the 'deep end'. We needed 11 players on the pitch last night to get a result; we achieved that, scores elsewhere were favourable to us but just not good enough for some it seems. Surely a little more patience is required before offering up some of those hurtful comments that I read from last night.

Many lads at 16 look polished and/or big prospects but very few of them end up in PL squads for 1 reason or another.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 2:57 pmWe only really got Dwight from Utd at 14/15 so will have been pretty polished tbf .
It is often the unheralded but promising youngster that goes on to greater things.

A shout out for Glennon who I thought was very impressive today too, IMO.
He looks like a very composed footballer who will surely have a decent career in the game.

Re: Shout out to Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Glennon, Josh Benson and Joel Mumbongo
Mumbongo looks a way off Prem level yet but he is quick and a handful and is definitely one for the future.
Glennon looks like a mini Dwight which is not a bad thing. His final ball will come with confidence and experience.
Benson is a step ahead of the other two in progression. He is a worker but also sees a pass. Not sure he is going to get a run of games which he needs so could do with a Championship loan to build that belief and productivity.

Thought the same. It’s a shame his opportunities are likely to be very limited. Probably needs a loan to League 1 or so.

I've seen him play left centre back too.
We have some talent at U23 level, just need them to push on a bit now.

If Glennon is a full back then we appear to have a readymade back up to Charlie Taylor and given the number of subs we can now name it might be worth including him and given the circumstances of the game give him a run instead of Pieters as the lad is obviously not without skill but needs experience and there`s only one way he will get it at Prem level.

Not with you. Pace has said he wants to move our academy on further.
Re: Shout out to Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Anthony Glennon, Josh Benson and Joel Mumbongo
Is Glennon good enough to step up and be our second choice left back next season? If we give Pieters another 2 year deal its hard to see how the lad can progress with us really.

Certainly must be in and around that thinking now, although I’d still re-sign Pieters for his versatility.
Also no harm playing him a bit further up the pitch in place of Dwight occasionally to bed him in to the team/PL.
