I believe our manager's sports studies were quite broad and, at one point, had a focus on rowing.

Used to be a Fitzpatricks on Yorkshire Street in my younger days. The sarsaparilla was to die for.
Often popped into the Yorkshire street shop when walking home from Towneley School.
Unlike you Tony my drink of choice was called Hop Bitter, probably thought it was like having a pint of proper beer before I was old enough to legally drink beer.
On my way to and from school I also used to walk past Masseys Brewery on Westgate and will always remember the strong aroma of hops coming from the brewery..
A couple of shops up from Fitzys was a tobacconists shop.I sometimes used to buy 5 woodbines or Park Drive on the way to school, the smell of tobacco in that shop was wonderful.

Do you mean Mal(Malachi)?

He used to walk up Burnley Rd every night holding his takings wrapped up in a brown paper bag. We tried to warn him about the dangers of it, but to no avail.
Never knew his first name.

I’m currently listening to The Mormon Way of Doing Business audiobook which features incoming director Dave Checketts.

He’s a real mover and shaker, former CEO of Madison Square Garden, so he was CEO to some of the most well-known New York sports teams, the live events companies and the venue itself.

The author tells a story of how he convinced the New York Knicks best player not to trigger a release clause in his contract while on the same day convinced in a highly sought after coach who would only sign if the player stays... it wasn’t pretty but they got there in the end... he’s a win at all costs - but by the rules - type.

Amazing that we’re getting someone of his experience and calibre on our board of fire

CTU - There's some serious business talent heading our way that's for sure. Should be fantastic for us fans seeing how much we improve. Great stuff.

I am not sure religion has any bearing on someone's ability to do a job.
ALKs leadership team are here because of their business acumen

Personally I couldn't care less if they were Mormon, Sikh, Catholic

If they pay their subs the new Directors will be allowed in the KSC club irrespective of their religion. !

Same, and got to be careful around these topics I guess.

It is curious what some really smart, worldly people believe. No more or less crazy than any other religion, but fascinating all the same. Clearly doesn't hold them back at all so it's probably all beneficial as long as you don't pause too long to think about the stories themselves and just follow the rules.

It can have an impact. The obvious example is interest on loans in Judaism and Islam which is forbidden to a greater or lesser extent.

Didn’t know they did foot knocking, thought that was just the Jehovas.
Yes. Very smart suits, although not seen any for years now. Perhaps they have stopped, after abuse/ no answer.

I used to have a secretary who was a Jehovah Witness. Her husband changed jobs, after redundancy and was in that early vanguard to power supply changers, knocking doors to sign folk up.

At the team feedback, end of day, they all complained about no answer or get lost etc and ge said...it was a breeze compared to what I am used to!

Mormons tend to greet you in the street in this country.

In the book I mentioned, the persistence of spreading the word of Jesus Christ gave Checketts the foundations of becoming the business man he became. They spend a portion of the teenage years in missionary, normally in a different country talking to everyone they meet. During that time they can’t spend time with friends, party, date or even telephone their families other than on particular holidays. But apparently, it gives you a greater appreciation of family, relationships and people.

He’s obsessed with winning though. There’s a part that describes his winning mentality when he invited Knicks sponsors on a cruise as a ‘thank you’ for their support. There was a basketball court on the top deck and he invited the sponsors to shoot some hoops with him. He took the matches very seriously and was still determined to beat them, usually someone in his position might let his customers win.

Played 5 a side a few times with some Mormons in St Helens. They were top lads. They swore in French.

I got my kids a Jehovah’s Witness advent calendar this year.

Similar to a normal one only it starts with the doors open and you shut a door each day ;)
