How strange - heard Ferry Cross the Mersey only yesterday. He will certainly be mourned at Anfield where he gave them something a bit special.

I flew from Liverpool to Malaga a couple of years ago and we had opposite aisle seats on the plane. He was full of fun and great to chat to. A really likeable man, we had a few g&ts together on the flight. RIP to a sixties star.

RIP. I was a bit of a fan of Gerry and the Pacemakers when I was young, as my parents used to sometimes listen to them.

"I like it" and of course Ferry Cross the Mersey were 2 of my faves of theirs.

I think they were the first band/artists ever to have their first three singles go to number one in the Uk. "What do you do to me", "I like it" and "You'll never walk alone" if my memory serves me.

A lot of people assume GM and the Pacemakers wrote "You'll Never Walk Alone", but its actually from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel.
Written in 1945 by Richard Rodgers.

RIP Gerry.

The passing away of Gerry Marsden is one of only a few that has brought a tear to my eye. A real legend for us oldies.

Countless people recorded it previously but Gerry took it to number one and then saw it adopted by the football club he supported. It’s the version we now all know best.

I know we all sing “Where’s you famous atmosphere” when we go to Anfield but I’ve been at the other end for a non Burnley game when they sing it and it really is something incredible.

I never met him, never saw him perform live but I always had it in my head that he was a really good bloke.

Always liked Gerry and the Pacemakers ever since we went to New Brighton on the ferry when I was a kid. When we got back from holidays he brought out Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey which was great. RIP Gerry.

Saw him perform in Durham a few years ago and got chance to chat afterwards and I can confirm he was a lovely chap.

Another part of my youth gone. I loved Gerry and the Pacemakers as a teenager, I don't think I saw them live but did see a
lot of acts at the Imp, perhaps I did, I just can't remember them all nowadays. I don't mind admitting I often shed a tear every time I here them sing " You'll never walk alone" R.I.P. Gerry.

Such a shame, like many on here his music was very much the backdrop to my childhood. I saw him with a few other 60s acts at Colne Muni a few years back.

Don't mind admitting it used to have the hairs on the back of my neck up, seeing the kop in full voice.More poignant now with no crowds.

Very much part of my formative years. My dad actually asked me to go and buy YNWA in November 1963 for him. No1 in the charts when Kennedy was assassinated. Gerry's brother,Fred, was a member of his band and played the drums. RIP Gerry Marsden. A life well lived.

In the UK the 150 Special was marketed as the Pacemaker, a Pacemaker sticker was affixed directly under the Special badge on the front leg shields. Concessionaires the pop group Gerry and the Pacemakers in a whole host of promotional material.

The group were one of the number that made up the "Mersey Sound", great time were the "Swinging 60s" and 70s IMO.

Football and Popular music fans heyday then in many ways, and for BFC and other Town teams in the First Division a time of the unequal Wages and gate receipt changes that favoured the City teams. Burnley were of course the last team in Lancashire to get relegated from the First Division.

Great band were Gerry and he's pacemakers, feel very privileged to have seen them would you believe at springhill wmc in Accy around 1976/77 R. I. P. Gerry

I played this track earlier today when I heard of his passing. RIP Gerry.

I was born in 1952. I was so fortunate to have grown up through the sixties and for the Clarets to be one of the best sides in the country. Match day was me and dad dashing down to Rawtenstall town centre to the bus station at Queens Square to board the many double decker bus 'specials' that were put on to get supporters to Burnley and to the Cattle Market on match day. Walking down Yorkshire Street amongst the throngs of supporters that filled the pavements and road. My dad was an engineer and worked Saturday mornings and we used to listen to the radio and music before setting off. It was all the great early sixties pop stuff.The point of this for me is that Gerry and the Pacemakers opitimised that period in my life like no other. Whenever I hear 'Dont let the sun catch you crying' it is very emotional and reminds me of those great days of me and dad going to the match. They had a unique sound. To me they were more Liverpool sound than perhaps the Beatles. Great sounds, great memories. Thanks Gerry. God bless. That's all.....I just felt the need to have a bit of a ramble.
