Saints v Liverpool
An interesting Liverpool line-up to say the least, Henderson at CB will raise some eyebrows, Ings may fancy a goal or two tonight looking at the reds back line.

Liverpool will just outscore them.
Re: Saints v Liverpool
Outstanding goal. Outstanding.
I’ve said it before and got laughed at. Ings doesn’t get injured he’d be playing instead if Firmino.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
Arnold should have headed that clear, tried being to clever to chest it down.

A very sweet goal for Danny Ings I guess. I'm not watching but I'd be interested to see how he celebrated- subdued or ecstatic?

Liverpool all over the place at the back, surely Klopp has to make changes, this side and formation just isn't working.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
clear foul on him............by his own player. Had the Liverpool player scored it might have been interesting but for the fact that the ever so clueless Mariner blew the whistle before it got to that stage - the standard of officiating is dreadful
Re: Saints v Liverpool
I was hoping for a Liverpool win tonight, otherwise Utd wll come to Turf Moor knowing they can go top of the league.......obviously I know we will beat them though.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
Great 1st half for the Saints, this could be a huge 3 points if they can maintain or add to this lead, an interesting stat regarding Liverpool.
Liverpool have only won one of their last nine Premier League away games when going in at half time behind.
Liverpool are still tough to beat at Anfield, but their away form must be causing Jurgen concern.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
Liverpool have been appalling, again. We had a thread the other week how Liverpool play so much better football than Man City and I commented people ignore these Liverpool games and think of the night vs Barcelona as reference. Whereas for Man City the reference is games vs us which they dominate with absolute ease.
Man Utds to lose now this title.

If that had been Lowton defending and the same had happened he would have been getting lots of grief on here.
Great finish but bloody awful defending, you see betterdefending in Sunday League and he is the England fullback!

Huge win for the Saints and Danny Ings, this season keeps throwing up the shocks doesn't it.
A good weekend for the 2 Manchester clubs that's for sure.

Arsenal were in a relegation about a few weeks back and Chelsea in the title race. Arsenal just 3 points behind them. 1st November Man United were 15th, 1st January, joint top.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
Wonder what the massive hypocrite will have to say after this game tonight? Will it be the fact sky made them play at 8pm on a Monday? That Southampton tackled? That the press asked questions that were unfair? That the goal shouldn't have been allowed because it went above head height?

Re: Saints v Liverpool
It's wide open now, Liverpool had the chance to open up a gap, and they couldn't take it, so any of the top 7 can consider themselves genuine title contenders right now, for a neutral it's brilliant to have a real title race involving several sides instead of the usual procession, or City/Liverpool running away with it.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
He's brilliant going forward but on defending alone I don't think TAA is any good. Like Joe Gomez he crumbles as soon as he is put under pressure.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 10:01 pmIf that had been Lowton defending and the same had happened he would have been getting lots of grief on here.

Arsenal with all their problems are ten points off the top....Everyone down to 16th inclusive can be classed as genuine title contenders
It is too early to consider x number of teams for titles and relegation but after every game there is comments around how many contenders there are....

Perhaps not. I was wrong. It happens. Liverpool not out scoring someone rarely does.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
Did anyone notice liverpool had a couple of stonewall penalties turned down? The Baden-Württemberger Hasenhüttl might have something to say about that.

Ahhhh - it's that Man United have had more penalties than Liverpool - that's what it was.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
Blimey it must be bad if Carragher is doubting Liverpool's title credentials.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, says: "I can't see Liverpool winning the league if they don't bring in a centre-back.
"It's a really tough ask if they don't bring anyone in.
"The fact they played Jordan Henderson at centre-back is not going to do a lot for the two lads on the bench (Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips) and their confidence if they have two midfielders playing there.
"Henderson is not a centre-back. He did well, but it's not his position."
For all the talk of Liverpool's injury crisis they did have viable options on their bench, so Klopp didn't have to play Henderson in an unnatural position, it was always playing with fire juggling their central defence, and they paid the price.
Nearly 70% possession, and yet just 1 shot on target, that's not going to win you games at any level let alone in the PL.

Re: Saints v Liverpool
From what i've seen the young lads who filled in at centre back for Liverpool this season haven't put a foot wrong. Bit of a slap in the face to play Henderson out of position instead.
Strange decision to start both Chamberlain and Thiago in midfield as well. Both coming back from a long layoff and straight in against a team as fit as Southampton.
