Re: Volunteers required
So they want to have people do a job for free in conditions that they may come into contact with Covid-19?
Why can't we just pay people.

Re: Volunteers required
Apparently if employed by NHS to do this role you would have to follow a bureacratic enrolment system and undertake health an safety, radicalisation training, recovery process if people collapse etc and a hole host of other things.
There was a retired Doctor on 5 live yesterday explaining what he and his wife are going through after volunteering to help , they were told about the training they would need, they explained that they had both retired 2 years ago, this opened up a hole new aspect where they would be paid to administer the vaccine once they were deemed to be suitable for this, the training they are undertaking is still going on some 6 weeks after applying.
After saying that rather than sending home government, council employees could they not be redirected to a lot of these roles. I am aware that some are being used in this way and that I spoke to a neighbor who works for Blackburn and Darwen leisure, who was involved in sorting out leisure centre to store bodies, and has currently being involved in the test centres for covid

While I doubt you’ve got a days work in you , it’s called public spirit and doing your bit in an unprecedented crisis .ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:58 amSo they want to have people do a job for free in conditions that they may come into contact with Covid-19?

The sheer admin that would be needed to officially employ 1000’s like this would be preposterous and staggeringly time consuming .

Maybe if the government and NHS did things like gave their nurses the vaccine before asking them to administer this in Covid ridden situations they were placed in before Christmas then people might be a bit more prepared to help out.
If this is what they expect from their loyal paid employees to do after working on the front line for nearly a year in some awful conditions and seeing many of their colleagues die how do you think they are going to be with the volunteers to whom they have no responsibility ?

The countries been on it’s knees for the past 10 month. Public spirit? There isn’t any. Public spirit comes when the public sees something to get behind. The armed forces should have been in training for months ready and waiting to mass vaccination of the population. If that would have happened the general public would bounce right off that. We’ve been told this is this countries biggest crises for decades, the term “front line” used over and over again. Get the armed forces involved, the have the man/woman power.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 12:00 pmWhile I doubt you’ve got a days work in you , it’s called public spirit and doing your bit in an unprecedented crisis .

I'm 33 years old and currently have 13 full years of National Insurance contributions. I have a degree which took me 3 years to complete and I am currently working towards a second one as an Allied Health Professional doing Speech & Language Therapy.
I've worked in private residential care in mental health and dementia as well as working as Rehab Assistant in both Burnley General and Pendle Community Hospital.
As for my degree, I am currently waiting on my next placement which is over in Bradford where I am going to again be fitted for all the appropriate Covid-19 PPE equipment as well as getting lateral flow tests so I can test myself daily. I will be supporting the SLT's and Nursing staff in a Head & Neck Cancer ward.
Just a few months ago I was travelling around Todmorden, Brighouse and Huddersfield visiting care homes that had Covid-19 where the residents had swallowing difficulties and was assessing them to provide safer methods to both eat and drink. Sometimes this was with people on palliative care.
Hope you are staying safe.

Re: Volunteers required
I’m not doing it no ,but neither am I being derisive to those who wish to help .I’ve absolute respect for anyone who gives up their own unpaid time to help others be it food banks /Covid marshals/homeless shelters etc etc . The volunteers are needed mainly as marshals/ keeping “traffic” flow and general admin so the qualified staff can get through the workload . Of course they should be paid, but the NHS is a bureaucracy par excellenceTVC15 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 12:05 pmAre you doing it then ?

The clues in the name. If you don't agree with, don't volunteer, but don't moan about those who do

Re: Volunteers required
Has anyone actually moaned or been derisive to the volunteers who wish to help? Ive seen people moan about them not getting paid and give reasons why some might not feel the desire to volunteer but Ive not seen any criticism or moaning about volunteers themselves.

I get you're trying to reverse off your point as usual but I very much doubt there our lots of people in the big outside world having a go at people for volunteering to help marshal and assist to the Covid-19 vaccination centres across Lancs and South Cumbria
Im sure one of your uncles next door neighbours sister has experienced it so it must be true

Doubt it... I haven't got an uncle, but can hear the radio and TV where people have been having a moan about busy bodies etc, like some did about Olympic Marshalls...Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:18 pmI get you're trying to reverse off your point as usual but I very much doubt there our lots of people in the big outside world having a go at people for volunteering to help marshal and assist to the Covid-19 vaccination centres across Lancs and South Cumbria
