But then, as others have mentioned, the 6th round win over Wrexham in 74 that meant we were in a semi-final on a neutral ground - I was ecstatic, and my dad was convinced we would go to Wembley. So happy after that game.

I recall that game..I'd not heard of Derby county to be Honest. A huge Following...very impressive at that time.

He told us he was going to London to record a television interview - we found out later, as did he, that they were trapping him for This Is Your Life.

My first ever FA Cup tie was a 1-0 win against Bournemouth in 1960. This Saturday will be the first I've missed at home since starting watching the Clarets all those years ago. That's a run of 84 games including the away game against Hyde, played on the Turf, and the abandoned game against Walsall.

That morning the Oldham manager was all over the national press telling the world that they had a full back (Ian Wood) who would put Taffy in his pocket. Adamson apparently just showed Taffy the interview and he basically ripped them to shreads.

I remember the interview. Oldham were full of it pre match saying what they were going to do to us.

A very satisfying victory. During the week in the build up to the game Ian Wood, their right back( joined us in 1980), had stated publicly that he could 'handle' Leighton James himself without any help from team mates. Taffy skipped past him twice in the first few minutes and threw over crosses for Dobbo and Paul Fletcher to convert.
Like a number of posters have mentioned we also had tickets in the covered Oldham end of the ground. Remember the pitch invasion pre-match as Burnley fans crossed the pitch towards our end. 1-4 at the end and Andy Lochhead in their line-up.

Same for me, Burnley v Wrexham, 6th round, 1974.

I was on the game and later that evening I spoke to a bloke who'd been in the town with his Mrs. He said he was just outside M&S when there was an almighty roar and everyone in the street stopped, including the traffic!!

I always remember the 3rd round 4-1 win at Oldham in 1974. We were in an Oldham pub before the match and the locals were boasting about their brilliant left back called Wood and how Leighton James would be in his pocket.

In the first 6 minutes James skipped around Wood providing crosses for Dobbo and Fletcher to both score, after which the game was effectively over for them.

Ah! I wondered if anybody would mention Penrith, that 9-0 equalled our highest every victory, though I somehow doubt anybody on this board will have seen the others, Darwen in the 1891–92 Football League. Crystal Palace (1908–09), New Brighton (1956–57) The latter 2 both coming in the FA Cup.

I was at the 1956-57 match against New Brighton. Five of the goals were scored by a young lad called Ian Lawson, who also got 3 in the next game too. However, that was about the climax of his Burnley career as he became understudy to Jimmy McIlroy and only played when Mac was on international duty. I was at the 1956-57 match against New Brighton. Five of the goals were scored by a young lad called Ian Lawson, who also got 3 in the next game too. There's one that will live in my memory as long as I live, and that was the third round tie the season after we lost to Spurs in the final. Surprise surprise we got drawn against Spurs again but at White Hart Lane, not Wembley.

I was 16 years old at the time and myself and a mate went down on a National Express coach. Unlike it's name, it's stopped at every lamp post along the way. It was worth it though. The pitch was 2 or 3" deep in snow with just the pitch markings visible across it. However, unlike today the game went ahead and we won 3-0 with Gordon Harris, John Connelly and Andy Lochhead doing the business.

It was a very bad tempered match with Spurs players kicking everything that moved but despite a couple of real punch ups, I don't remember anyone being sent off. (How times change.) The following day, the headline on the back of one of the papers (Daily Express I think.) said 'The shame of Spurs.'

We missed our scheduled return coach, but luckily the inspector at Victoria coach station, put us on a later Express and we got home before the one we should have caught.

Derby away for me too, I was only 10 or 11 and it was an amazing experience and I genuinely would have been happy even if we had lost it was my first real epic match.

My Dad always tells me they pulled the kids out of the away end at half time for a kick about and that stopped us chanting at the half time entertainment (unlike when Wrexham had their mascot get married?)

I also remember we had one santa hat but with no bobble so my mum sewed cotton wool together onto the hat and sprayed it with hairspray!

The 3-0 drubbing of spurs in 63 was a great result and performance ..but for drama goals and some amazing football I remember the unfortunate loss 4-3 to tottenham in 65/66 4th round ...willie Irvine was unstoppable got his hat trick before getting the treatment from Mackay Mullery and co ...I was near dugout and saw a young Brian Miller doing a gary lineker and telling the bench to keep an eye on the situation ..good days good memories and great bunch of players ...

The Liverpool one with the Traore own goal deserves a mention though

my first ever away game! bought the whole 90 mins on video for 15 quid when it came out. fast forwarded to the goal (cooke around 60 mins?) don't think I ever watched any more of it.

Mine would be the 2-2 draw away to Sheffield in the 90s. The ending was disappointing but at the time it was exciting to see us go in front against top flight opposition and the atmosphere in the away end was fantastic (despite the crush)

I can't imagine what Sheffield United were expecting. No tickets required !

The 'away end' on Bramhall Lane had 2 tiers with a seated upper level. The whole end was full way before kickoff and had a capacity of around 10,000. Another section had to be made available in the stand next to their home end to accommodate another couple of thousand Clarets.

Adrian Heath scored twice at our end. It was bonkers. His second ended with me sustaining neck injuries that resulted in a number of hospital appointments.

The replay was a bit of a damp squib.

I was at that one as well. Gilzean got a hat trick as well and on the same day Geoff Hurst got one for West Ham. So there were three hat tricks in London that day.

Went from Bradford to Oldham then Stockport. Loved it at Bradford but not the others. Started at Rochdale which was also a great club. No money but no clubs had in those days

Sheffield United away was tremendous. Certainly the best fa Cup game I have attended.
My brother was at the Derby game though and insists it was the better of the two

My wife's cousin was married to the Hednesford Town captain when they went on an FA Cup run in 96/97. Despite it not being Burnley, it was still very exciting following them away to Blackpool and winning, then beating York and a brilliant day out at Middlesbrough (never been before, what a sh!t hole). Hednesford took the lead early on, against the likes of Juninho, Ravenelli and Mikkel Beck (who kept throwing himself to the floor). Lost 3-2 but a great experience. As for Burnley, always remember Dad taking me to the Sheffield Wednesday game in 1983, the Longside seemed packed, can't remember much about the game other than Tommy Cassidy scoring with his head and the defense gifting them their goal.

That game I think was the biggest gate i have been on at the Turf. Big Wednesday following including quite a few in the Bee Hole that ended up getting escorted round to the away end. Steve Taylor's dreadful penalty, saved by the keeper Bolder in front of the Cricket Field stand was a memory from this game. You must remember a penalty being saved in front of the CF stand Covclaret

Best only had one boot on for both of the goals and he was carrying the other boot in his hand. The referee shouldn't have allowed that but of course this was Manchester United and even back then they were preparing for a long period of Fergie time should we have retained the lead.

Many great FA Cup memories - mainly from the late 80s/early 90s - others have mentioned most of them already.

Derby County away - the epic home draw, the abandoned fog game and the rearranged replay with incredible chanting.

Sheff Utd away - Over 9,000 away supporters. Unreal!!

Shrewsbury Town away - the whole John Bond thing, a rubbish game but losing until the 87th minute and two dramatic late goals to win it! Didn't Marlon save a pen too?

Stockport/Scunthorpe home/away - the replays against both, ended with a 5-0 win and finding out Roger Eli was actually quite a handy forward...probably my earliest proper memory of attending FA Cup games.

Getting some mixed memories now from the variety of posts. The Everton tie in 1962 was the one where a photograph was taken from the Beehole End of supporters on the roof of the Kingside. Just a few weeks short of my 10th birthday but my mum wouldn't let me go to this one as a result of the poor reputation of Everton fans. Both teams wore their away kit for that game as they both did for the Wrexham game in '74.
I went to Old Trafford in '65, stood in the Stretford End paddock with a lot of my family. Heartbreaking end to the game made even more so by the fact that I was at school in Salford at the time and so had to put up with some jibes the following Monday. FA Cup was something very special then.
