Good article. I hope the players mentioned get plenty of game time. I was hopeful Vydra would be involved but I'm assuming he's still injured. It will be a tough afternoon but I'm confident we'll get through it.

9th is my birthday and generally adjacent to FA Cup 3rd round. Since I was born (1950) I think this is only the 7th time weve played a cup game on this date.
Man United home 1954 - won 5-3
Lincoln away 1960 - drew, won replay
Brentford home 1965 drew, won replay
Birmingham away 1979 won 2-0
Reading away 2007 lost 3-2
Middlesbrough away 2016 won 2-1

I only went to 2 of these games, Brentford 1965 and Reading in 2007. Reading is just up the road from me nowadays so it wasn't much of a problem when the Saturday 6th game was called off for waterlogging just as I was arriving at Madejski Stadium, the replay on Tuesday mustve been a bind to re-travel to for most clarets especially when we went 3-0 down- though we did generate some excitement to come back to 3-2.

The outstanding win in this list is the 1954 one (2-3 years before my dad took me on my 1st game). There's a great to watch little film by Pathe News showing us playing in white in front of nearly 53,000 at a muddy TM. Man U with Foulkes, Duncan Edwards, Tommy Taylor etc.

Nice free kick routine for the 5th goal, get your rattles whirring.

Today will also enable us to eliminate them as the ones who tested positive for Covid. So with that thinking - I hope to see Mee and Tarky at least on the bench!

Good read Tony, I doubt very much SD would be like the man who whose name one cannot mention, let's hope whoever plays has a great game and all come out of it safely with no more injuries.
