Rochdale player

Post by Vegas Claret » Wed Jan 13, 2021 12:07 pm

we struggled against a League one team at the weekend, just saw this from last night - Kwadwo Baah, 17 year's old - one to keep an eye on for sure and the type of talent I'd love to see us take a chance on if this is his level of performance

Baah scored two - his other goal was very decent too!

Also, a stunning 4th goal last night scored by Humphrys from a free kick.

The number 7 for Rochdale, in the lead up to Charlton’s goal, is some properly comedic defending. I can’t work out if he’s lost sight of where the ball is, or if he’s in two minds; either to go back and clump the attacker or run back and defend.

Humphrys in central midfield is skilful, energetic and very direct. Another one to watch.

Looks strong and confident for his age. They'll be clubs looking at him for sure, might be worth a punt at the right price and keep him on loan at Rochdale.

He's not a fan of time wasting either. He's the former ball-boy who stopped West Ham time wasting in a game v Palace in 2016.

No point in signing a player that age for Dyche, he’s at least 13 years too young.

Is he 13 years younger than McNeill? Than Benson? Thank Tarkowski or Keane?

Have your opinions, but make some of them remotely sensible.

Stephen Humphrys is a fairly local lad. Think he’s from Oldham way. His cousin, Ethan Kershaw was at Burnley for a long time. Think Stephen started at Man City, Moved to Blackburn..... and then went to Bury I think where a number of scouts and coaches knew him. They sold him to Fulham I think, and then he went out on loan to Southend and then back closer to home at Rochdale. Always was a stand out player every time I saw him play.

There’s loads of managers out there who could do a grand job with us.

Someone progressive who adapts, signs younger more technical players, someone who’s tactics produce more attractive football.

Our squad is in the toilet and needs major surgery, Dyche is a major reason for our current squad situation.

Well said. Dyche is the main reason we've had two promotions to the Premier League, five consecutive seasons in the top flight and experienced European football.

Long may he reign!

Off the top of my head,

Daniel Farke, Thomas Frank, Steve Cooper, Leonardo Jardim, Rafa Benitez.

Hate Dycheball with a passion, don’t trust him to sign the correct players and he can’t/doesn’t adapt.

So all those people are available as from today, their clubs wouldn't mind if they just clear their desk and leave for Turf Moor?

Would all those names you mention be able to manage a club like Burnley in the Premier League with limited finances and play exciting, attractive football(and keep us in the Premier League)?

Would they give us 2 top 10 finishes and get us playing in Europe?

Certainly Daniel Farke tried it without any success.
Rafa Benitez left Newcastle because he was frustrated with lack of funds to buy new players.

Thomas Frank has a squad at Brentford that has cost similar to what we have spent on our current 1st team squad but failed in the last 2 seasons to get them promoted.

It's all well and good continually criticising Sean Dyche but he has to do the best that he can with the limited resources the club have at their disposal.

I'm not saying that he gets everything right tactically or always signs the right players, which manager does?
It was mentioned during Tuesday's game that Man Utd had a Dutchman on their bench who had cost them more than Burnley's entire squad but who had only started 2 league games for them.

Granted the football that we play under Sean Dyche is not always the most pleasing on the eye but it has been successful for us.
TV/media pundits regularly praise Dyche for the job that he has done with our club, not just for the odd season, but on a regular basis.

In our 1st season in the Premier we tried to play open and attractive football under Owen Coyle and got smashed on a regular basis.
Sheffield United played some really good football last season, really pleasing on the eye, but the honeymoon period has now ended for them.
Maybe the same will happen for Leeds next season, who knows?

It's brilliant watching some of the world's best players coming to Turf Moor to ply their trade but it's not much fun watching your team get hammered week in week out because they are trying to out-football far superior teams.

I understand some people getting frustrated at times, especially when we lose, but Stoke City tried to change their style of play and found the going very tough.

I understand the frustrations with Dyche, he frustrates me no end with his stubborness and late subs. The fact remains though that without him we wouldn't be where we are today. I do understand the need for progression, and certainly at the moment Dyche more than deserves the opportunity to progress us as a club. He has no excuses now for the playing style in the long term. I certainly wouldn't want us to go all Norwich City way of playing, but certainly if we could go back to the way we played at times in the 13/14 season that would be a start. This won't happen overnight, however at this moment in time he is the man for the job. If in a few years time, we are still playing the same way and goals are still hard to come by having spent more than enough trying to change things then maybe then it would be a different conversation.

You have nailed that. The next few seasons are going to dictate the rest of his career. If he doesn’t start developing his tactics and improving the attacking ability of the team he will be labelled another Allardyce, Moyes, Bruce. The lack of funds he has had has taken him away from criticism. If he is going to have funds from now on he needs to start moving the club forward in terms of playing style.

It slightly frustrates me that we don’t act quickly on players like this. 2 decent prospects from a local team who will be struggling for money but players like they are progressing well. I’m 100% sure they will be a deal to be done. Upfront cash / season drips / loan back for 2 seasons etc.

Humphrys is well known to the club, and has been for 15 years now. His career hasn't yet hit the heights his ability as a Youth player suggested it would, and he's now had a number of moves in and around clubs at the bottom end of league 1. Baah will undoubtedly have clubs looking at him following the other night, but it's very risky for clubs to sign players based on 1 game. It's also very difficult for clubs to scout players effectively at present, with nobody allowed in grounds.

unlikely I would have thought. But the tool could be great to do the huge labour intensive work of a first look at a player, and open the door to seeing many many more players quickly, so that the scouts the club have can be deployed more effectively.

Not that effectively if they can’t get in but we can all see it on YouTube. 🤷
