Superb win for the lads with some good performances.
We're playing at the same venue with an expected driver pitch. Let's hope we can bat first and get the best of the conditions.
Great to see Joe Root ring up the only England fan on the fort after the game, to thank him for his support.

Re: Sri Lanka Vs England 1st Test
Good win for England, but the 2nd test will surely provide a stiffer challenge, because I can't see Sri Lanka imploding again with the bat.
However it couldn't really have gone any better from an England perspective, a big innings from the captain, an impressive debut for Lawrence, wickets for both the spinners, the only slight concern is the form of the openers, and if SL win the toss and post a decent total, then their metal will be sorely tested.
The difference between the teams isn't as large as it appears, and Sri Lanka's performance over the last 3 days will give them hope of striking back next week, the problem for them was that this test was lost on day 1.

There will be improvement in Sri Lanka, but remember England usually start slow and improve, so expect that to come from them too. Soon bowlers took 5 for each, but were getting better the longer the game went on in terms of lengths, rhythm and control.

Away wins are hard to come by. Batting 2nd on a turning pitch to win is even harder.
I think Woakes will come in for Curran and Anderson for Wood or Broad.

I can’t see Wood playing again so I’d bring Olly Stone in for him. We need to see what he has rather than needing to throw him straight in at Chennai or The GabbaQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 10:20 pmAway wins are hard to come by. Batting 2nd on a turning pitch to win is even harder.
