How much would it cost to sign him on an 18 month deal? £4m-£7m?

Get the boy signed, touch of class upfront.

19 goals in 81 games since the start of the 2017-18 season

I loved him when he was at Chelsea but he's clearly no longer the force he once was.

How many starts? hasn’t been a regular and it’s not just goals, Costa offers WAY more than goals.

strikers can't score if you don't create chances for them - that's our issue, persisting in playing Sunday league footy

Which is my point, no transfer fee so what would it cost? £3.5m a year on wages? £5m for 18 months of Costa?

He's the same style of striker as we have, he wouldn't make any real difference. It's reductive reasoning to think a slightly better quality but same style of striker makes a significant difference.

We need to be looking at where we're struggling to create and come up with solutions for that. A more mobile striker and/or someone who provides a different threat to what we currently have in midfield/wings (ie. Pace, direct dribbling) and we create more and more varied chances. That's where we need to be looking.

He's been injured a lot though, misses approx half the games with injury.

He's a very high risk player to sign if his body isn't up to it anymore

Your not far wrong. It’s obvious there’s a huge gulf in class and ability between the 2. Wood couldn’t lace Costas boots.

We need 2 fresh strikers in & 2 out, rotating the 4 we’ve got at the moment isn’t working in any combination, whether Costa would come or not it’s certainly worth some sort of enquiry & failing that try another target, it’s not sustainable long term relying on a defence to keep clean sheets in order to gain points & expecting odd goals.

I certainly wouldn't be against shaking up our striking options, but Costa isn't a viable option, and he's no spring chicken, plus wages would be crazy, and if we're looking to inject fresh blood into our front line, I'd rather we were looking at younger players with the potential to improve, then squander money on someone such as costa.

I totally agree on your last point, the defence aren't miracle workers, and they will concede goals now and again, hence why we need to offer an attacking threat of our own, either with the existing squad, or by recruiting new bodies, we can't persist with the current malaise, otherwise we'll be visiting the likes of Huddersfield and Nobbers next season.

Some sort of enquiry I suggested meaning walking away if the money was too much, it’s a gamble you throw money at it works or it doesn’t work, sometimes you just need have a do & throw caution to the wind.

Fair enough I still can't see Costa or his agent being interested, and even if we did sign him, we would still face the problem we currently have, how do we create the chances for him to bury, until we start doing this it won't matter who plays up top, because without the ammo, they'll still be firing blanks.

I'd try Jay & Wood starting at Anfield, this partnership is one that worked well last season, and Jay needs minutes, it's probably a game we'll lose anyway, so we might as well get him some game time, and he's got good memories of that ground, whatever we can't persist with Barnes/Wood it's patently not working, so assuming we don't sign anybody in the next few days, we need to utilise any assets we do possess, and that's one way of maybe changing our fortunes, we can't be any worse than what the current pairing are offering, and also Jay is more likely to be able to link play with the midfield, and enable us to perhaps keep the ball better.

Diego Costa would’ve scored a hat trick against MK Dons, you’re acting like Wood isn’t getting chances to score. Costa creates chances, that’s the difference between them.

Wages astronomical you say? How much is that? £4m a year?

Is spending approx £7m on an 18 month deal for Costa good value? Seems like peanuts if we retain our place this year let alone the following season.

and some idiotic club will no doubt fall for it.

Depends if he’s up for a challenge though. He doesn’t seem to me to be a player that wants things easy. We certainly (now) have some slick pitch men in charge who could seduce him with some Bene, a bit of Madge and the honor of being Ashley’s successor :)

I've no idea what his wage demands would be, but whatever they are they'd be way above our normal ceiling, and that can only lead to unrest in the dressing room, just look at what happened when Joe Hart came in on big bucks, and in his last season with us he made maybe 2 appearances from memory.

Looking at Costa's numbers he scored about 1 in 4 for Atlético during his 2nd spell, hardly prolific for a team pushing the top of the league who often dominate games, we'd be wise to steer clear of this type of signing, and TBH I can't see him being remotely interested in a move to Burnley, surely he'll be looking to join a team that's in the EL at the very least, not one that's scrapping for their lives in the PL.
