It isn't working and it doesn't look like working and it can't continue in the same format surely.
Credit West Ham a bit though, they are a much improved side brimming with confidence it seems.

Getting fed up with watching toothless, pedestrian performances. What’s the point in continuing to lump it up to our strikers who even if they win it the midfield is usually 30 yards behind ?

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
In fairness to Westwood and Brownhill, week in week out they are up against 3 central midfielders, it’s not rocket science that on occasions they are overrun!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 8:12 pmThis is absolutely spot on. I think we possibly have the worst CM pairing in the league. The disappointing thing is we don’t have much better on the bench.
For me a CM that can pass and dribble with the ball is an absolute must this window.
I think if Brady can stay fit, him and McNeil will provide enough quality ball from wide. It’s just whether we can pass the ball quick enough to allow them space.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
We spoke at half time yesterday and I referred to the midfield. Westwood is nothing like the player he is when Cork is there and right now I just don't get Brownhill, nothing seems to come from him at all.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 8:12 pmThis is absolutely spot on. Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
I thought that Brownhill was marginally better than Westwood yesterday. At least he tried to drive forward on the odd occasion.
Westwood seemed more content to pass it back to the centre halves hoping they would find a killer pass.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
As I said, I am struggling to get Brownhill at all and Westwood was poor yesterday. I’ve never been Cork’s biggest fan but I do think we’ve missed him. I also think we miss Hendrick but I’m not going to start that one again.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
I 100% agree about Brownhill. Not really sure what he offers the team at all. His passing is surprisingly poor, given that I thought it was one of his strengths before he signed.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 5:53 pmAs I said, I am struggling to get Brownhill at all and Westwood was poor yesterday. Cork and Westwood have to start for me.
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
I'd be tempted to bring Cork back and move Brownhill out to the right again. Not convinced by JBG or Brady playing out there.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 5 - To be fair he didn't have much to do but distribution was very poor and a few decisions he made to come out probably weren't the best.
Lowton 5 - did nothing
Tarkowski 6 - At fault for the goal but apart from that did OK
Mee 6 - As Tarks
Pieters 5 - As Lowton
Gudmundsson 5 - Marking him a little higher than most because at least he got up and beyond the forwards to actually have attempts at goal
Westwood 5 - far far too deep
Brownhill 5 - as Westwood
Brady 4 - offered nothing
Barnes 3 - Both Barnes & Wood have been done to death. Quite frankly if you beleive they should still be in the starting lineup after the last month or so's performances I'm questioning what you've been watching
Wood 3
McNeil 7 - Got us going forward but end product wasn't good enough. However, I'm convinced wide left is not his best position. A formation & role change is required
Vydra 6 - A striker that can gets in behind. It makes a world of difference
Rodriguez 5 - Had little effect. Doesn;t look 100% fit to me
The only difference in the game up until Vydra came on was West Ham had:
a) a striker that moved and moved beyond the defensive line
b) they played 20 yards further forward as a team - which is possible because of point a)
We are a team that is far too deep with little to no pace about us. Teams have worked us out again so now is the time to change the style and roles again. It seems like groundhog day every year, the same thing happens so come on Mr Dyche time for changes and not just personnel.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 6 – Quiet game, but did flap at a couple of crosses and got away with them
Lowton 7 – Tried to get forward and make something happen
Tarkowski 6 – Why didn’t he jump for the cross? Ok otherwise.
Mee 6 – Did ok without being too troubled
Pieters 6 – Offers little going forward, defended ok – but we’re really missing Taylor
Gudmundsson 5 – He has stopped taking on players and lacks confidence
Westwood 5 – Poor. He sometimes tries to play like a sweeper leaving the front two completely isolated
Brownhill 5 – Also poor. Went missing for a lot of the game. Time for a rest
Brady 6 – Tried hard and just about the best of a very poor midfield. His set pieces are just not good enough. Something he can surely work on in training?
Barnes 5 – Not getting the service with the midfield miles away, but not offering enough either
Wood 5 – see Barnes
McNeil 7 – Did well trying to beat the full back and getting in crosses. He must start on Thursday
Vydra 6 – More effective than Barnes and Wood, but that’s not saying much
Rodriguez 5 – Not on long enough to make an impact.
Again, very disappointing after a good performance against UTD. I was expecting us to have a go at West Ham, who are improved, but they’re not great and some points were there for taking.
The midfield has been really poor at times this season and we’ve got nothing in those games. Cork and Stephens must be worth a start, along with changes up front. It has been said many times by others, we can’t keep doing the same and just expect things to change. Thursday is going to be tough, unlikely to pick up any points and we’re being pulled into the relegation pack..

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Player Ratings
I can't see any place for Brownhill anywhere, bar the odd block he offers little and looks out of his depth. We need to get Cork firing as I don't see us bringing anyone in this window
