Isn't it the case that any true Yorkshireman has to own a dog?

It might just be my difficulty in understanding the accent but every time I meet someone from Yorkshire they're always very quick to announce that they're from Yorkshire, Dog Owners Country... well, something like that.

I've not quite "left" the South of France. I've kept my appartment on there and plan to split my time between the two countries.

The people and the town there are still very much a place close to my heart. So is Burnley but I have to confess I much prefer Burnley FC to the French counterpart.

Ive got an appointment in France for this but don't envisage any problems. As has happened in the UK, they are working on a preserved rights basis for people who were in situ before Brexit.

I was at uni in Yorkshire and was in digs initially. I got very concerned when my landlady said she was going to mash the tea. I always avoided her potatoes.

I'm a Yorkshireman. I support Burnley because they are my local team. Being a Yorkshireman is not my fault. I'm a Yorkshireman because there are counties that have borders, which is all silly.

To me, there are 2 good reasons for supporting a team. They are either because they are your local team (that's why I started supporting Burnley) or because you follow a family member's (often your dad) team.

Now retired in Norfolk but during the 1970s and for 30 years lived in Settle North Yorks nearest professional footy teams were Leeds or Burnley so had no choice but to cross the border fortunately chose the right team to support. Havent lost my accent so when anyone says "where you from" I always say GODS COUNTRY!!!

I was once in a pub in Tod and got talking with a reet Yarkshire lad from Huddersfield, boozing by rail. We were discussing old time pro- golfers and I was describing one but couldn't remember his name but that he'd been a good un and had won some regional championships. "Ah", he declared, "that'll be Alec Bickerdicke!". Spot on, got it in one - straight out of Ripping Yarns. Priceless.

Born in Lanky, raised in Yorky, moved back to Lanky on marrying. So I have insight.
They are far more dour than Lancastrians but honest to a fault. Even when it would be better to say nowt.
Mentioned previously but short arms and deep pockets is up near the top.

In the early to mid 70s I used to try to hitch hike to Uni in Sheffield. The stretch beyond Tod through Halifax and Huddersfield was painfully slow. When we got close to Sheffield around Penistone everything changed and friendly people and free lifts were abundant. I compare that with visits to Elland road as a kid where middle age folks were vicious. So it's Sheffield 10 Leeds 1. Yorkshire has good and bad areas

Having been born under the red rose, I grew up in Yorkshire where during my teenage years my best mate Mike and I debated each County's superiority endlessly and often vociferously. I remember being particularly aggravated at the miserable barstewards not picking me for their cricket team just because I'd been born in Colne, as bad as the bloody South Africans! Whereas Lancashire CC being above such petty racial discrimination, didn't pick me because I was no bloody good.
Anyway, at 15 or 16 years old we were in the local pub and once more arguing the toss noisily enough to annoy some of the other drinkers when Mike's dad interjected to suggest that we keep it down a bit, particularly as it didn't matter all that much as we both already knew that rather than the 'other' county being a shithole/the pits/worst place in the world, it was in fact a very close second to our own home. In the gobsmacked silence this statement caused, he continued by explaining: "You two have been bickering about which is the best county for years, but if someone from Cheshire, Cumbria, Derbyshire or god-forbid Surrey were to join your debate and pitch a case for their home county being the best, you wouldn't argue with them for two minutes; in fact you probably wouldn't argue at all, instead you'd just look at each other, shake your heads sadly and buy the poor deluded fool a beer.

Guys close to me at the match always eat their half time pies from the top and inside moving outwards so at the end are left with a dry crust bottom and sides - what's that all about ?

Yorkshiremen and Lancastrians can argue about their respective counties, and I know the red rose is by far the better of the two. But should anyone from outside dare to get involved then we just join together and tell them where to go.

I'm a Yorkie born and bred in Barnsley. I've been coming over the border to watch the Clarets since my first home game in August 1996 when Clarets played Sheffield United winning 4-0 with a hat trick from Bomber Harris and one from Irvine.

I know there's friendly banter between Lancies and Yorkies including talk of the War of the Roses. The reason why Yorkshire is so hilly is because they took that much land off Lancies in that war that they had to pile up in Yorkshire.

Sorry Rowls, shut down and capped years ago. They hit a underground sea of boiling syrup and the tight Yorksire gits put up the price of rhubarb which was the only thing that could mop it up.
