I know there's friendly banter between Lancies and Yorkies including talk of the War of the Roses. The reason why Yorkshire is so hilly is because they took that much land off Lancies in that war that they had to pile up in Yorkshire.

Only a Yorkie since birth.
You should have lived longer then you'd be familiar with the Rhubarb Triangle

Oh and by the way, it was us, Lancashire that won the War of the Roses, you were called the White Rose because you waived the White flag, remember ?

Didn't we both win as Henry Tudor united the 2 houses of York and Lancaster (not Yorkshire and Lancashire ) when he kicked Dickie 3's butt at Bosworth (no penalties required there)

When asked by a prostitute to say just three words to describe anything they want done for them the Yorkshireman says
‘paint my house’
‘paint my house’

I hate to say this because both counties have lovely countryside, but the Yorkshire Dales sure takes some beating. Same goes for the north Yorkshire moors and the north Yorkshire coast.

Or put another way, Henry Tudor won the war and took the most favoured Yorkie woman as his prize?
Actually, she had a strong claim to the throne in her own right, being sister of the Princes in the Tower. Definitely a political marriage. Having been previously engaged at age 3 and at age 9, she was no stranger to that sort of thing.

Re: How to Spot a Yorkshireman?
Jeez, that's a blast from the past!
From when I was about 3 or 4 to perhaps 6 or 7 years old, there was a guy called James from Padiham that worked for my dad and who entertained me and my brothers for hours with tales of the Sabden Treacle Mines. There were also stories about Captain Kipperfeet(?) too, who sailed his ship the 'Calder Bell' from Padiham to all corners of the world. I'm not sure if those tales of the Calder Bell are the reason that I took up sailing, but to this day my mother attributes the ease and speed which I have with numbers and indeed built a career on, to James teaching me to play pontoon for matches. Apparently I could instantly add any combination of numbers totalling 21 or less before I'd even started school; Mum thought it was brilliant, though I gather that my Grandma was less enamoured with the teaching method.

A bit like fighting with your brother; there was only me that was allowed to kick the **** out of him!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 5:16 pmYorkshiremen and Lancastrians can argue about their respective counties, and I know the red rose is by far the better of the two. But should anyone from outside dare to get involved then we just join together and tell them where to go.
