Only 5 PL signings so far
Info supplied by CTs sticky thread.
17 days into the window and only 5 incomings, with only one looking like a first team starter.
Is it simply there's not much dosh about or should it have been in February this year with the late start to the season?

no money - the season behind closed doors has killed a lot of clubs budgets - I said in the summer window many clubs were taking a serious gamble, believing fans would return - our club adjusted it's budget for the worse case scenario - was lambasted for it but would have ended the season debt free, prior to the takeover.

Maybe they've seen our tactic of waiting until the very last moment to sign a player and have decided to do the same.

Is leaking badly in the verge of caving in through lack
Of investment and/or poor management decisions.

According to Nixon, Burnley have gone very quiet on our targets. Probably tactics if nobody else is in for them. Unsettle them and get the price down at the last minute

Yeah, that tactic worked great in the Summer window!
Stephens was a steal at £1 million

Dyche was pleased with that deal. Even if the fans weren't.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 10:16 pmYeah, that tactic worked great in the Summer window!

Re: Only 5 PL signings so far
Judging by the reported £55m cash in the bank at the time of takeover, it’s fair to assume we’d have ended the season with an exceptionally healthy cash balance?Chester Perry wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 8:47 pmno money - the season behind closed doors has killed a lot of clubs budgets - I said in the summer window many clubs were taking a serious gamble, believing fans would return - our club adjusted it's budget for the worse case scenario - was lambasted for it but would have ended the season debt free, prior to the takeover.
Shame the existing shareholders decided to sanction a leveraged buy out & seemingly use the clubs cash reserves to part-fund it, instead of hanging around themselves and investing some of it in the ageing squad/stadium. If all the reports are to be believed, that is.
Tbh though, takeover aside, what they did in the summer is risk our PL status, and that is what’s playing out. That to me is a bigger financial gamble, just hope it’s one we get through.

I think the financial reality is biting. Spurs and Arsenal have their BoE loans, so are probably restricted. Others with the big stadia are probably feeling the pinch having not got fans back in October as they budgeted and, let’s face it, all have pretty decent squads to tide them over. In the main, I’d expect they want to trim their squads of the fringe players to save wages.
Judging by SD’s comments, I imagine the Championship are still holding out for ridiculous fees, so for us it becomes a waiting game to see if any buckle.
Hoping we’re also in for some loanee’s but suspect they’ll all have other options and we most likely aren’t the most enticing prospect at the moment.

Re: Only 5 PL signings so far
That’s not a tactic. That’s a consequence of who we are and what we can afford. No agent in his right mind is going to advise his player to join us in week one of the transfer window. They will wait and see if there is any other interest from a club that will pay what the player and agent want. If that comes about, then off to the other club he will go. If it doesn’t come about, then they will wait until the last minute before signing for us with the statement “when Burnley came in for me it was a no brainier”GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 9:04 pmMaybe they've seen our tactic of waiting until the very last moment to sign a player and have decided to do the same.

Another consequence that potential players will be considering is our current league positionbobinho wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 7:27 amThat’s not a tactic. More likely to be loans which could also suit us at this moment in time

Perhaps better to wait until BFS has bought half a dozen in for West Brom before commenting on numbers.

Re: Only 5 PL signings so far
I’ve just looked back at Jan 2020 and the window closed with a total of 49 transfers. I include those recorded by the Premier League so that list shows two for Burnley who were Henry Ogunby & Josh Brownhill.

Agreed CT that there will not be too many incomings or outgoings, and those that there are will mainly involve clubs needing to try and dig themselves out of a hole and avoid the drop. Most of the bigger clubs will wait until Summer.

How’s Henri Ogunby getting on? Looked a really decent capture when he arrived but haven’t heard much since?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:19 amI’ve just looked back at Jan 2020 and the window closed with a total of 49 transfers. He came in from Manchester City on a short term contract but was one of the players released at the end of last season.

Re: Only 5 PL signings so far
The big clubs rarely bring in first team players in January as they're generally cup tied for European competitions.
Plus having massive squads they can plan for a full season.
