Question on House of Games
Just had a question on House of Games.
How far was the longest goal, scored by Amir Begovic?
The answer given was 92m.
Now there have been many goals scored out of hand from within their own penalty area, I witnessed Jim McDonough’s at Burnden Park against us. Modern pitch length is 108m so 92m is putting him on the very edge. Just not sure why Begovic should be given it over any of the other keepers.

Re: Question on House of Games
I guess the answer is that there weren't the statistics around in the old days. I was there that night at Burnden Park as well

I was also at Burnden for that game. He had 2 or 3 attempts before he finally got one to bounce over O'Rourke. We lost 3-0 and I believe our next game was Spurs away in the Milk Cup....

Re: Question on House of Games
I said exactly the same thing during House of Games. I was at Burnden Park when McDonagh scored( about this time of the year in 1983) and I was also at The Charity Shield at Old Trafford in 1967 when Pat Jennings put Spurs 2-0 up with a kick out of his hands. Both goals seemed further than some on that list but both goals were also admittedly quite a while ago.

The longest ever drive in Golf is held by Alan Shepard. In 1971 he hit a golf ball 2 miles....
Mind you it wasn't on a golf course
In February 1971, astronaut Alan Shepard became the first person to golf anywhere other than Earth. He smuggled a golf club and two golf balls on board Apollo 14 with the intent to golf on the Moon. He attempted two drives. He shanked the first attempt, but it is estimated his second went more than 2 miles, holding the unofficial moon record of the longest golf drive of aprox 3520+ yards.

Spot on with that. Scored from the third attempt and it was days before Spurs.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 7:35 pmI was also at Burnden for that game. That Spurs game is 38 years ago today by the way and would have been Brian Miller’s 84th birthday.

Re: Question on House of Games
I don’t know the length of Cheltenham’s pitch but they know exactly how far Newport’s keeper scored from tonight. The ball was on the 6yd line.

Re: Question on House of Games
Won’t count as it wasn’t scored in the premier league. For some reason when it comes to football records only the premier league counts. In another league or happened before 1992? Well that is impossible as the prem is the only league and football was apparently invented in 1992.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:58 pmI don’t know the length of Cheltenham’s pitch but they know exactly how far Newport’s keeper scored from tonight. Re: Question on House of Games
I was referring more to Bosscat’s post 3 and the world record list. On further investigation Cheltenham's pitch is 111yds long and my earlier post was incorrect, the ball wasn’t on the 6yd line. It was nearer to 5yds meaning the kick was 106yds and a new world record.thelaughingclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 3:24 amWon’t count as it wasn’t scored in the premier league. A lifetime ago and yet the memory of watching a Betamax recording of the full game in the centre spot a day or two later is crystal clear....

Re: Question on House of Games
I can remember playing darts at home with my brother with the Spurs game on the radio. Given what we had witnessed a few days earlier at Bolton, we didn't hold out much hope. Spurs went 1 up through I think Terry Gibson and we both expected that to the be the flood gates opening. We wll knwo what happened next, the 4th goal being one of my all time favourite Burnley goals. I spoke to Ray Clemence in 2002 before the World Cup at some Coca Cola roadshow and i reminded him that he should have been sent off that night for the handball outside the box. He didn't take too kindly to that, given it was in London Colney, close to the Spurs training ground and was probably expecting friendly Spurs fans to attend.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 9:06 pmSpot on with that. Re: Question on House of Games
I went down on one of the club coaches for that game and Peter Higgs (Burnley Express) was on the same coach. He told me that Brian had been sacked. I couldn't take it in, he'd not been backed after promotion.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 8:17 amA lifetime ago and yet the memory of watching a Betamax recording of the full game in the centre spot a day or two later is crystal clear....
A couple of night's later I took my dad to the Centre Spot to watch it, the place was packed.

We enjoy it,too. Being a history buff I always look forward to 'I'm Terrible At Dating' but the whole programme is enjoyable and family friendly. Oh, and the questions from young children are good fun as well.
Re: Question on House of Games
Perhaps, like lots of world record stats, it doesn’t count if it’s wind assisted and McDonagh’s goal definitely was!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 9:06 pmSpot on with that. Scored from the third attempt and it was days before Spurs.

Re: Question on House of Games
It was the first season that red cards had been introduced for deliberate handballs as well. I remember being furious even though I was only listening on the radio. I stormed off to the loo and missed our goal!Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 10:27 amI can remember playing darts at home with my brother with the Spurs game on the radio.
