Not that many years ago that when there was any heavy rain ours would be the first, and often only, game called off.

How many games did we have called off back in the 2000’s?
Liverpool was the high profile one, did we have many more?

Just before the Liverpool game we had the Leicester game abandoned.

Others I remember off the top of my head are

2000/01 - Norwich about half an hour before kick off
2001/02 - Bradford City twice
2005/06 - Norwich

It shows how far they have dropped.

They have been training on their pitch for the last month as their training ground is not up to scratch.

They used to have a great training ground and a great pit h at Ewood.

Whist its great to see our pitch in such good condition I think telling our players to keep the ball off it is a bit OTT from Dyche

We'd been at the Sparrow Hawk and were walking up to the ground when we got the news that it was off.

I remember one of the Norwich games, was it a similar time that a game vs Wimbledon was postponed due to high winds and a falling apart Cricket Field Stand?

The game that was called off with high winds was around March 2004. I was in the press room before the game that day and had to walk around the pitch afterwards to get out at the club shop corner. You could hardlt stand up let alone walk round.

The second Norwich one I referred to up the thread was in 2006/07, not 2005/06.

I remember my mate's pint blowing off the picnic bench outside the Park View that day, much to his annoyance, and my amusement.

Also recall the Port Vale match on Boxing Day circa 95 being abandoned mid game due to the water.

The Port Vale one was waterlogging on top of a frozen pitch - Boxing day 1994.

That Port Vale game, any fool could see what was happening. Up past the players ankles and rising by half time. Amazed it got that far. We were winning no?

Deadwood pitch is a mess. Even before this rain it was. They need to have a pitch like ours but probably can't get the funding from their owners. How much would it cost I wonder for a new modern pitch?

Losing 2-1 when it was abandoned after a player suffered a serious injury because of the frozen pitch with water on top. Won 4-3 when it was replayed.

Swans have a regal and snooty air. I doubt they’d want to play in a mud bath.

I was talking to a Barsteward at work today. He was bitter that from having the best pitch in the country as he put it that lack of investment means they are in desperate need of a brand new pitch

A lot more than you think and the annual upkeep is high too - we spend well over a Β£1m a year of the upkeep of pitches at the Turf and Gawthorpe - Venky's would have to commit well over Β£2m to the Ewood pitch alone to install a new pitch and commit to it's maintenance over its relatively short lifetime
