Richard Keogh

Post by ClaretTony » Wed Jan 20, 2021 11:31 am

Been a good week for him.

1. Gets a move back to the Championship with Huddersfield
2. Wins his appeal against his sacking by Derby who must pay him £2 million.

His luck seemed to turn after the VAR check against us the other week :)

Good for him on the appeal, especially as he wasn't even the one driving.

Glad to hear that - Always came across as if they used the incident as an excuse to get rid of an old pro.
One thing I wonder though, how on earth are Derby planning on paying that?

Perhaps Burnley will help them out and be their Knight in shining armour.

It would be the honourable thing for us to do. After all, Keogh has given Burnley a helping hand over the years..

Could it be Derby's insurers that have to pay it?

There'll still be a premium one suspects. If they're even covered for this kind of thing. It's a highly unusual set of circumstances and it wouldn't be a surprise if they don't have cover for this.

I'd be surprised if the insurance policy listed unfair dismissal as a reason to pay out.

Hopefully it doesn't.

£2m really is an eye popping amount, particularly given Derby's current circumstances.

If they are successful will Keogh appeal against the appeal that Derby appealed against the appeal

That whole incident stank. Keogh, admittedly the senior pro, seems to have been made the scapegoat. Two younger and more valuable "assets" were banned and fined.
A fourth player's identity, it is rumoured, has been witheld.
I'm glad it's come back to bite Derby's arse.

They also first of all said he could stay if he took a pay cut.

I predict a January sale hitting Pride Park in the next week or so. ;) could be a good time to go bargain hunting. :)
