Would you consider the FA Cup tie as having been televised?

I'm just completing the list of our live televised fixtures - it was ready during last season's shut down but I never got round to getting it live on site.

But a question:

Would you consider the three League Cup games that were streamed and the FA Cup tie v MK on FA Player as being televised? Should they be added to the ever growing list?

Personally I would say yes as I watched them on a TV even though the feed wasn't a traditional TV broadcast

Streamed is still a broadcast mechanism and it was possible to recieve the broadcast on a TV, albeit over a different medium.

If it was legally available to view, it’s was televised. No different to watching on SKY or BT just a different way of providing the service offering. No different to Amazon.

the easy way is to determine is - did the the club receive a payment for the broadcast - same as with the Premier League

CT you may need a 2nd category - games broadcast but no fee received

I'd agree with that. The only difference being I can watch Amazon streams on my TV but the cup ties I had to sit at the computer to watch.

Amazon is part of the PL deal but that’s not of interest for this purpose. I’ll include them. Each match listed will show whether it was BBC/Sky/BT etc so I’ll just reference FA Player and the one used for the League Cup.

I would say no. They were only available online and weren’t even available to be watched on tv through an app unlike the games on amazon. So I would say no due to the FA player and The football league player can not be watched on a smart TV (other then through another app but my point is they don’t have their own app I don’t think like amazon prime do, certainly not on my tv they don’t have an app anyway)

Yes. All the games appeared on tv. I think it's down to the viewer's tv equipment whether the tv can sign in directly to the internet, or whether the internet streamed services are limited to apps that have been pre-installed by the tv supplier. It's been easy for many years, with older tv's to connect to a laptop via HDMI. It's also possible to link smart phones to tv's with a range of technical choices. It shouldn't matter what the technology is. I agree that it is valuable to keep a record of the broadcaster. It may also be interesting to have a record of which matches were ppv and how much the one-off charge.

I say it's televised. It doesn't matter that the word "televised" originally meant "on television", I reckon televised now just means broadcast. In the same was as if I record a match on my TV hard drive, I may still say I have videoed or even taped it, even though no videotape is involved.

I don't have BT as part of my TV package from Virgin but I still count the games on there as televised even though I cannot legally watch them!

Going further down this rabbit hole... cup game game vs Blackburn in March 2005... was that televised? I remember being so delighted at being able to pick up a live stream of it on Chinese TV... don't think it was shown anywhere else. This was in the very early days of streaming and video sharing. Piece of internet trivia the clip of Micah Hyde's goal is one of the earliest videos uploaded to YouTube... 5 days before the site was officially launched.

For those that don't have a smart TV Amazon is effectively online. There are also apparently ways to get to use the FA Player on a smart TV.

I would say yes it was definitely televised.

Watched it on fa player and there was an option to chrome cast fa player from my laptop to my tv, so sat watching it on the tv in the same way I would if it was on Amazon.

I watched the MK Dons game on my TV.

I had the FA Player app on my phone and had it casting to my TV through Chromecast.

Yes, it's a different bit of technology and not everyone might have the ability to do that but by the same measure, I don't have a Sky box or Sky etc. which is different to your traditional BBC channels, still, those games are counted as televised.

If it it legally available to watch via your television or a legitimate online streaming service - it should be classed as televised.
