It’s madness. Television is dictating the laws of the game even though only a percentage are televised. The close scrutiny of refereeing decisions by television led to changes in the offside rule. That didn’t work so they added VAR, that hasn’t worked so they are messing with the rule again to try to make it fit VAR but it makes it increasingly difficult for the referee, his assistant and of course football supporters. Every time this comes up I say the same. Go back to the original rule, when the ball is played, offside regardless of interfering or not and everybody grow up and accept that referees and their assistants are human and their mistakes are just another part of the game.

The AR was correct in not flagging and he is the most experienced AR in England. Jon Moss was correct in allowing play to continue because that is the current Offside Law and its correct interpretation.
It isn't though. An identical incident happened in the Italian super cup last night and Ronaldo was immediately, and correctly, given offside because he did exactly what Rodri did, he challenged his opponent and won the ball. The offside player can receive the ball e.g. from a defender's misplaced pass but there's a world of difference between receiving the ball and tackling an opponent. 100% cock up by moss and co.

I see the powers that be have 'clarified' the law today and the city goal shouldn't have stood.

Amazing how so many defended yet another bit of abysmal refereeing, albeit not helped by Lineker reading out the bit of the law on MOTD. Moss and co should be finished.
