Re: Sri Lanka Vs England 2nd Test
Good win for England in the end, and as others have commented these 2 games will do the squad no harm ahead of the daunting trip to India.
I didn't expect the match to finish in 4 days this morning, but once again SL collapsed with the bat, and despite a few wobbles, Sibley & Buttler got England over the line in relative comfort in the end.
Difficult to gauge England on those 2 victories as SL with the notable exception of Embuldeniya were toothless with the ball, and didn't put the required runs on the board to trouble England unduly.
That innings might just have changed the selector's minds about Sibley playing the 1st test in India, yes he had some fortune with the 3 close LBW shouts, but he showed great composure in a tense chase, and he displayed the temperament to grind out an innings when conditions are tough, and that's exactly what England will need in India, because make no mistake that will be a huge step up in class, and unlike Sri Lanka this Indian team is used too winning matches, mind you you can say the same is now true of this England team, so it's got all the makings of a great series hopefully.
Both the spinners took wickets, but if they're being honest both will know they can bowl far better, and they'll need to because there's no way India will gift their wickets away in the manner SL did in 2 of their 4 innings during this series.

Seen a few examples when players have made sure of a win rather than personal milestones. Wasn't there a game here in the summer when someone was left on 99 not out as the winning runs were scored=?Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 11:49 amWell played England.
Great Test for Buttler as well. I thought he might have played it out to get his 50, but unselfishly prioritised the win.
Sibley batted really well today but Buttler again showed what a damn good cricketer he is.

That was Alex Tudor vs New Zealand. Remember it being particularly harsh as we had 7 wickets in hand.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 8:09 pmSeen a few examples when players have made sure of a win rather than personal milestones. I think you're on about Malan who miscalculated how many runs were left. He was very mad with himself walking off.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 8:09 pmSeen a few examples when players have made sure of a win rather than personal milestones. India have a great seam attack with Bumrah a superb bowler.
We play a pink ball test over there as well.
Our seam attack will do very well out there.
Just need some luck at the toss

Worrying that an international cricketer can't work out how many runs are needed to win.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 8:17 pmI think you're on about Malan who miscalculated how many runs were left. He was very mad with himself walking off.

I always remember a Lancs League game in the late 70s. Burnley had South African bowler Graeme Le Saux as sub pro. He went into bat with the game all but won and the Burnley captain on 48 not out. He didn’t know about collections, smashed a couple of big shots, won the game and left said captain on 48.

I'm pretty sure you mean Garth Le Roux and not the ex Chelsea full back!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 9:49 pmI always remember a Lancs League game in the late 70s. I’m 100% I mean Garth Le Roux who went on to play for Sussex. Why on earth I wrote Graeme Le Saux I have no idea. The plot really is getting lost somewhere. Thanks for the correction Mondsley.
I do know the Burnley captain was Roland Harrison.

No problem. I think we are all a bit giddy after the last few days!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 10:16 pmI’m 100% I mean Garth Le Roux who went on to play for Sussex.
