With the new owners now in place, which clubs from the other major leagues in Europe can we draw inspiration from? In other words, can we aspire to be like Villarreal, Atalanta, Lens, etc?. I'm talking about clubs in similar stature, town/city size.

I follow the Champions League & Europa to some extent but I couldn't tell you how any of the teams you mention did domestically in league or cups.
In that respect I may be your more average viewer, I had to google Lens as a team...

So reversing the question slightly how (& why) do people abroad view us?

It's likely our Premier League status in the last few years is the main reason people have heard of us so staying there as long as possible should be our ambition to really reinforce our status as a top flight team.
The longer we are there the more our exposure will be, I expect most international followers of the league would struggle to name your Swindons and Readings.
Personally I think our main aim in the medium term should be to become synonymous with the Premier League itself.

Unfortunately, for clubs our size there's no such thing as an 'established' Premier League team. The scrap to survive renews every summer and it'll always be like that. Just enjoy the good times, like last night, when they happen.

Also a firm believer of that too, our relegation is almost a statistical inevitability. I just hope we're been around so long and our squad/finances were in such good shape we'd be able to climb back out of the championship repeatedly and spend more time in the top flight than out over the next say, two decades.
