Dean Smith

Post by huw.Y.WattfromWare » Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:01 pm

Accepts his FA charge, after being sent off at City. The FA outcome could put him out of the dugout or banned from the ground next week.

How can Dean Smith receive a fine for questioning the officials on what was a very contentious decision (ok technically a right one but I don't think many knew that was the rule)? If what he said was what he said is true It was hardly insulting.

Klopps gets away with far worse every game, waving his arms, screaming/shouting at the officials, yet that goes unpunished.

I don't mind Smith at all but someone in his position, earning what he does, should know the laws of the game.

I don't get why this rule is contentious

As soon as a defender plays the ball, where the opposition players are is irrelevant really. How many times do we see a complacent defender back-passing the ball straight into the feet of an attacker? Also, is not the same as when a cheeky striker waits behind a goalkeeper to put the ball down to nick it off him and roll it into the net?

I guess the main question is was the city player gaining an advantage by being offside in the first place? I think he was, so the rules need to change imo

That rule and the current off side rule, not flagging at the immediate point he's off side definitely needs changing. What an earth they were thinking of when they decided to change those rules is beyond me.

Moss originally issued a yellow card
Smith then appeared to carry on with some sort of abuse to him
Moss shrugged his shoulders (as if to say you give me no choice) but then pulled out a red card, but did not show a second yellow first
Should it not be a 3 game ban if a straight red was given

What Moss did is not against the rules

I agreed they should but I think everyone other than referees have missed that rule change.

Ridiculous rule. Rediculous red card. He has done the game a favour and should be thanked not charged

That is the one rule that doesn’t need changing. How many times did the flag used to go up and be wrong. For the little bit of fuss that has been made about perceived chance of injury, I haven’t yet heard of an actual occurence, against the goal scoring opportunity being denied. I’ll take what we have.

I think the issue I have is when its obvious that a player is offside. It happened in last nights game. I think I was Barnes was put through, (he was offside), he collected the ball and waited around the penalty area waiting for support, (he knew his was offside) he looked at the linesman, then he carried on shrugging of the defender and then tried to play the ball but it was intercepted and cleared away... then the flag went up.

Good time wasting tactic though

Dean Smith could be lip read calling the ref a ****.That was after he was sent off
The misunderstood rules of football is common amongst some players and managers especially the offside laws
Clearly the Villa player played on his opponent and a goal was the correct decision

For a game that’s been around for over 125 years, for people who have spent their entire adult life being part of it to not know the rules means the game has been changed by the governing body without satisfactory explanation.

Rules are changed with alarming regularity, no surprise people can’t keep up.

How long should the City player have waited then before rejoining the fray then before his 'offsideness' had worn off. Because that's the logical end point of the discussion if the law is 'wrong'.

Rule is correct
Decision was correct
Smith was a dick about it

the new rule is the issue, Linesman should have raised his flag the moment the ball went forward, this play on until after the fact is dreadful, will cause injury and I would imagine at some point result in legal action

Unsurprisingly, it's VAR that has caused this. If you're going to disallow goals for offside after looking at a replay then it's only fair that you don't blow up for offside straight away in case the liner has got it wrong and there isn't an offside. I said this way back when VAR first came in that you either review everything or nothing because every in a football match happens as a consequence of what happened previously.

Thats why we've got this daft situation where everyone knows it's offside but they have to play on. Liners are redundant now. I mean they only give us and outs anyway but there's no real need for that anymore either. Might as well get rid.

Dean Smith is a bit of a bell but he was absolutely right the other night. Moss and co cocked it right up.

For me this is the crucial point. Join in immediately?
Give it five minutes?

The law/rule on this is not really clear.

Until Mings passes the ball. Fairly obvious really.

Rodri chases down the keeper who at 0-0 would have stood there and wasted time had he not. Why should be then be further disadvantaged?

Keeper plays a poor kick, City win header, Mings can head it back but tries to play, isn’t hood enough and loses out.

Nothing wrong with the rule in that scenario. How many times do defenders just clear their lines.....can you imagine Mee or Tarks bringing that ball down with Rodri there, not a chance.
