How much sleep do you get?
I would like to have a really good nights sleep but find myself waking in the middle of the night or early in the morning (6ish). It’s really annoying when you don’t have a need to get up and feel more sleep would be beneficial.
Any suggestions?

Re: How much sleep do you get?
Don’t snooze before bedtime, don’t spend time on phone or tablet just prior to going asleep, and don’t watch tv at that time too. Oh, and don’t worry about out our team, we’ll be fine

Re: How much sleep do you get?
If I take work out of the equation. I like to get between 7-8 hours. My body clock often wakes me up at 4am though on a weekend. Same this morning. Though I did go back to sleep until my alarm went off at 6am for the dog walk.
I actually had a lie in yesterday morning. 7.45am. That is very late for me even on a day off.
I was brought up to be dressed and ready for the day so have my clothes and shoes on straight from waking up. Waking up and being awake are two different things though. I find nowadays that it takes me 3-4 hours to be able to function in the morning. So the later I sleep, the later it is before I can function. Which has it's own problems as if I'm starting work at 7am then I really need to get up at 3am to feel human by 7. My body clock has a real problem with rotating shifts. So I'm in a constant state of tiredness. Add my wife working alternate shifts to me. So she often unintentionally wakes me up. Some days/nights I might only get 3-4 hours kip.

Re: How much sleep do you get?
I have the same regulatory issues sometimes and taking a tablet of Melatonin 30 minutes before I should rightly go to sleep stops my brain whirring and watching YouTube til 3am. It works because it sends you into a deeper, less fitful sleep. You tend to wake up earlier but well rested. Flip side, you go into deeper dreams / subconscious which can sometimes be a bit scary.

Re: How much sleep do you get?
Some nights I'll get 8 hours, others I'll get 4hrs or less, there's no real pattern to it for me.
There are the odd nights when I don't get any sleep cos I'll be gaming, but I've cut down on those because it takes me longer to get over those now I'm 40 and I have to eat a lot of food if I'm at work to keep myself going

Simply not enough,I have done my Rotator cuff and a good night sleep is impossible at the moment got it diagnosed over the phone because I couldn't see a doc...now having physio consultations over the phone...2 co codamol at 11.00 pm...wake up at about 1.30 in pain, get up and make a hot water bottle up to place against the shoulder, restless for the rest of the night...get up about 7.30 and take the dogs for a spin....tough times but it has improved recently the wife has even threatened me with single beds because I'm tossing and turning

Like to get 8, but rarely do.
I've tried ways to get more sleep or get a lay in.
If I go to bed early, I toss and turn.
If I go to bed late, I get straight off however still end up awake between 6 - 6.30

Re: How much sleep do you get?
At least six hours every nite, sometime more. Lucky in that if I have a bad nite, the following nite is always good, probably due to the tiredness from the day/nite before.
I have recently started having to get up for a pee in the middle of the nite. Unless I’ve had a gallon of beer, in which case you don’t get a peep out of me...

No problem with sleeping and i go into deep sleeps.
Unless the kids are here, then the slightest noise wakes me. I think it must put me in protective mode having the kids here.

Always been a light sleeper, used to be 4 or 5 hours a night but better since becoming a dad, averaging 6 or 7. Very rarely have 8 or more.

That 3 hours to function..seems more noticeable as you get older In the Main I never make AM appointments either.BenWickes wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 8:07 amIf I take work out of the equation. Re: How much sleep do you get?
Similar to what's already been said by others. Not great at sleeping. 6-7 hours is enough for me. And never have more than 8 hours. Often find myself wide awake at 4am. But can fall asleep at the drop of a hat at 9pm on the sofa. Been more noticeable in last few years so imagine it will be more so when I'm in say my early 60s rather than early 40s. I find routine important and as soon as I go against it the pattern or lack of detrimentally impacts on my ability to sleep well.
Re: How much sleep do you get?
Feel for you. Damaged my rotator cuff a few years ago. Very uncomfortable like most shoulder injuries. Hopefully though you will recover quickly.Steve1956 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 9:34 amSimply not enough,I have done my Rotator cuff and a good night sleep is impossible at the moment got it diagnosed over the phone because I couldn't see a doc...now having physio consultations over the phone...2 co codamol at 11.00 pm...wake up at about 1.30 in pain, get up and make a hot water bottle up to place against the shoulder, restless for the rest of the night...get up about 7.30 and take the dogs for a spin....tough times but it has improved recently the wife has even threatened me with single beds because I'm tossing and turning

Re: How much sleep do you get?
Another rotator cuff here, having the same physio videos every 3 weeks. Think its improving slightly with the exercises
Still managing 6.5 - 7.5 hrs, started using a free sleep app, its not 100% reliable but pretty accurate, app is
"Sleepscore"

Re: How much sleep do you get?
I get about 7 hours and in truth can function off far less than that. Working from home has messed up my routine a bit as I don’t have to get up as early, so I stay up a bit later at night. I used to really struggle to sleep but I read in bed on an iPad with the screen colours inverted and as soon as my eyes feel a bit heavy I put the book down and I’m off in a flash.

Re: How much sleep do you get?
As long as I get six hours I am fine. 10 minutes less than that, and I feel dreadful all day.
Re: How much sleep do you get?
I'd describe mine as acute rather than chronic so only really very problematic for days rather than weeks. But it was exceptionally painful during that time and lost movement in my arm for a short while. I recovered rapidly through intense physio and medication - prescribed anti-inflammatory; not just pain relief. Hopefully yours will recover quickly too.Steve1956 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 1:02 pmFinding it hard to shake off,but the doc did say it was a difficult injury to treat,I tripped over one of my dogs and was going to land flat on my face so I put my arm out to break my fall..I wish I hadnt and just smashed my face instead, how long did it take you to recover taio?...

I've been a poor sleeper for as long as I can remember. My nightly sleep pattern is intermittent and I probably get about 5 or 6 hours per night. I'm able to function okay. Just wish I could crash out for 7 or 8 hours each night like my OH.

Re: How much sleep do you get?
As an adult, always had about 7 hours per night and my body/mind seem happy with that.
Until I was c 60, I slept pretty much straight through, not waking up/not remembering dreams.
I retired at 61 and in 10 years since then my sleep pattern has gotten much more irregular. I go to bed at different times and usually wake up once or twice in the night - often in the middle of a dream. It doesn't bother me, I usually get back to sleep quickly and feel refreshed enough each morning. I guess its something to do with being less active (physically/mentally) with age or maybe just the lack of workday routine.

Re: How much sleep do you get?
I used to get about 4 or 5 hours per night, if I was lucky, but since I have had my CPAP machine I get on average 8 hours per night quite often more than that, a real life saver.
Re: How much sleep do you get?
Asleep 9:30/10pm
Awake 5am
Monday to Friday
Solid sleep all night.
Saturday and Sunday will sleep for the same length of time but sleep and wake times differ. Even after a skin full I'll have the same sleep time.

10 hours is a nice indulgence but 8 is perfectly functionable.
Anything less than that is less than preferable.
Anything below 5 isn't enough.

Usually about 7 hours during the week and 8 at a weekend. Can function on 6 during the week with a couple of coffees but I’m a right grumpy get.

Can't function without 8 hours minimum, brain just doesn't work and working in a school I really need it to function fast.
Not drinking alcohol helps and no salty foods late at night. Think there is a correlation with getting up to pee and eating salty foods/beer drinking.
If you're peeing all night I'd say there is a problem somewhere, bladder or testicle issue.

OK but if someone isn't taking medication then peeing every hour may have everything to do with high blood sugar & diabetes. Trust me I know!FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 2:22 pmWith some medication, it's a side effect and nothing to do with high blood sugar or diabetes.
I didn't see the information about RalphCoates being on medication so excuse me if he mentioned it.

The most common diagnosis is probably through it alongside your eyes.

Re: How much sleep do you get?
In bed for between 10-10:30 every night, even weekends and I’m only 31. (Unless I’m on a night out) 3 young children does that to you and I’m usually up and at it before 6am, I’m very much a morning person and watch very little tv, staying up until midnight watching tv has never appealed to me
