Pope 9 (MOM)
Lowton 8
Tarks 7
Mee 8
Pieters 8 (+ 1 for unwittingly assisting McNeil's goal)
Westwood 6 (Chased shadows most of the game, especially first half and kept punting long aimless balls forward)
Brownhill 6
Brady 5 (-1 for more appalling crossing from good positions)
McNeil 8
Jayrod 7
Wood 6 (Great, great header, but he needs to do more for the other 89 and a half minutes imo. Sorry)
Cork 8 (Made a huge difference)
JBG 6
Vydra 8 (Didn't touch the ball that often, but made a massive difference to the destination of the 3 points!)
Second best to an extremely slick team for the entire first half and for a fair amount of the second, BUT if you don't take your chances when you're dominating.....!! We NEVER say die, we're never beaten until it's over and Dyche has got better with substitutions and that was the key today! Absolutely over the moon, as at half time I could see it being 0-5!! Villa without Grealish would be an interesting one as he's actually an amazing player, but he really is the epitome of a "one man team".

Pope 8 brilliant technique standing up 1 on 1
Lowton 6 bit off
Tarkowski 7 good if not his usual immaculate
Mee 8 great bullet header goal
Peiters 7 great stand in for CT worked hard
Brady 4 worst I’ve seen him from bad to worse
Brownhill 6 overrun and took a knock
Westwood 7 stuck at it
McNeil 8 back to his best
Rodriguez 6 virtually no service
Wood 7 awful 1st half but good goal and great reaction at the end
Cork 8 influential
Gumundsson 6 didn’t really get to grips

Re: Burnley v Aston Villa - Player Ratings
Pope 9 - England's best goalkeeper for me. Had no chance with goals, but pulled off some fine saves.
Lowton - 7
Tarkowski - 6
Mee - 8 - led the recovery with his goal. Took it well.
Pieters - 7
Brady - 6
Brownhill - 6
Westwood - 7
McNeil - 8 - getting back to his best. Well taken goal.
Rodriguez - 6
Wood - 8 - did the ugly stuff well and an excellent goal when it mattered.
Cork -:8
JBG - 6
Vydra - 7
Just listened to Sean's interview. Summed it up perfectly for me. We played in the 2nd half with guts, heart and determination to find a way to get a result. Nine points off the bottom three. Well done Burnley.

Re: Burnley v Aston Villa - Player Ratings
A game of two halves. Awful first half bar Pope but far better second. Glad Dyche made positive changes early enough as it changed the game.
Pope 9 outstanding kept us in it 1st half mom
Lowton 6
Tarkowski 6
Mee 7 excellent header
Pieters 7 very good 2nd half
Brady 5
Brownhill 4 poor and rightly hooked
Westwood 6
McNeil 8 excellent 2nd half
Rodriguez 5 disappointing after weekend
Wood 7 goal will do him good
Subs :
Cork 7 should start next match instead of Brownhill
JBG 6
Vydra 8 look much more of a threat with him on pitch and involved in another goal

Re: Burnley v Aston Villa - Player Ratings
Pope 9 - Kept us in the game when we should have been cut adrift first half
Lowton 6 - Difficult game for him, they overload that area of the pitch (Targett, Grealish, Barkley)
Tarks 6 - Again not easy, not the most comfortable with defending fluid movement
Mee 7 - Plus one for goal
Pieters 8 - I didn't think he was capable, but the attacking display in the second half was superb
Brady 5 - Anonymous
Brownhill 5 - Injured
Westwood 7 - So hard when you're not a mover, coming up against this sort of opposition, but a beauty of a corner
McNeil 9* - MOM, vintage McNeil
Jay Rod 5 - Couldn't link with Wood at all. Felt a bit sorry for him.
Wood 7 - Got his goal, and improved in second half
Gudmundson 5 - Offered as much as Brady
Cork 7 - Brought a calmness on the ball
Vydra - Movement was absolutely vital in the second half, but can't mark due to time

Re: Burnley v Aston Villa - Player Ratings
Re-watched the full game this morning.. Some thoughts here.
1) we weren't anywhere near as bad in that first half as some of the histrionics on display here suggest..we were outplayed, no more than that.
2) Pope is one hell of a keeper.
3)McNeil...is the real deal.. Sure, he's not George Best, but every time I see him I notice more and more of that kind of style.. Comfort on the ball..change of pace..top class delivery..and an incredible ability to read the game.
4) Brownhill clearly not 100%....hes better than that.
5)Cork's return is a massive boost for us.

I listened tot he game on TalkSport2 so I won't mark based on that but a think a mention has to go to Chris Wood. He's been given a hard time recently, justifiable, but it sounded like he was fantastic last night.
I'm glad the Vydra/Wood combo worked well. It seems a logical combo.

Wood was very much responsible for us getting the corner which led to Ben's tremendous header and getting us back in the game.bf2k wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 2:27 pmI listened tot he game on TalkSport2 so I won't mark based on that but a think a mention has to go to Chris Wood. Woody won the tussle with Mings by using his strength and persistence to hit the ball against Mings and win the corner.
He also forced the keeper into an excellent save with a good shot and his winning header was real class.
He has hit the woodwork three times this season and with a bit of luck could have had 7 or 8 goals, he tries very hard even when things are going against him.

Re: Burnley v Aston Villa - Player Ratings
Pope 9 – What a keeper, definitely kept us in the game
Lowton 6 – Poor positional play for the first goal, he doesn’t block enough crosses – was always going to struggle against Grealish and didn’t get much support ahead of him. However, I still don’t think he’s good enough and we need a new right back.
Tarks 6 – Not at his best after some excellent performances – switched off for the first goal
Mee 7 – Led pretty well and scored a good header
Pieters 8 – A very good effort second half. Driving forward, nearly got a touch on McNeil’s shot/cross
Brady 5 – Is he fit? Offered very little and didn’t support Lowton – New right winger/midfielder required please.
Brownhill 5 – Was he fit? Time for a spell on the bench. He gives it a go, but hasn’t looked up to it for some time now.
Westwood 6 – The games passed him by in the first half. Did much better alongside Cork. Operates too deep at times and leaves a big gap between midfield and attack.
McNeil 8 – Excellent second half – caused havoc down the left. Some great deliveries.
Jay Rod 5 – Didn’t get going at all. But that was just about everyone in the first half (except Pope)
Wood 7 – Great header, he’s missed a lot easier this season. Battled hard to the end. Start of a goal scoring run, we hope
Gudmundson 5 – He’s stopped taking on the fullback. Lacks confidence, but better than Brady, just.
Cork 8 – Looked sharp, won the ball and moved it quickly. Made a big difference second half. He fits in better with Westy and McNeil.
Vydra – 7 – Great anticipation and running in behind the defence. I would like to see him get more game time.
Contrasting halves. Villa were very good first half, but we did allow them to play (Brownhill/Brady, half our midfield was poor). Pope really kept us in it. We always looked a threat in the second half and amazingly came away with 3 points. So much belief gets us a long way. Chelsea and City next – could be fun

I’m not getting into the Wood debate again, especially on this thread, but if a player can stand out on radio it was him and I thought it needed noting. Credit where credit’s due.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 3:33 pmWood was very much responsible for us getting the corner which led to Ben's tremendous header and getting us back in the game.
