Eric Pieters - backup?
Have we ever had as good a backup left back as this man?
Quality on the ball. Calm in possession. Gets stuck in. Works his backside off. Covers lots of ground. Top performance again tonight.
He is very unlucky that Taylor has kicked on as he has. But for once its one area you dont worry about if one is out.

Yes, very good back up costing about £1.5m I believe.

Would start for a few teams in the league, he is unlucky that he is behind one of our best players

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
And should both be injured we have Brady as well, who has been effective in this role for ROI, so for the first time since I've been watching Burnley it's our strongest area, (except goalkeeper!)

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
Speaking objectively I'd say he's good, but he's not Charlie Taylor and I'd pick a fit Charlie ahead of him any day, every day. BUT he was more than decent tonight second half AND he was the one sliding in distracting everyone (why??? ) when Dwight's cross shot found the far corner. So fair play to him!

Brilliant again tonight. Was a bit worried about him against Villa’s pace, but he showed his class. Love having him & Bards as backup.

Massive Pieters fan, never lets us down and has a lot more ability than I ever thought before we signed him. Bargain and I hope a contract extension is a formality.

Yes, Charlie Taylor was back-up to Stephen Ward.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
He very importantly picked the loose ball up in the middle after pressing and laid it off to Dwight, then went on a sprint into the box for the cross.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 8:18 pmSpeaking objectively I'd say he's good, but he's not Charlie Taylor and I'd pick a fit Charlie ahead of him any day, every day. Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
When I saw the replay of Dwight's goal I did a double take when I realised the player sliding in was Pieters. My son had already said it was Vydra distracting everyone, but it wasn't. I couldn't help wondering what the hell Pieters was bloody doing there!!diamondpocket wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 8:21 pmHe very importantly picked the loose ball up in the middle after pressing and laid it off to Dwight, then went on a sprint into the box for the cross.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
Pieters is far better then Taylor defending, intercepting, not so one footed, keeping close to the player he is marking and tackling.
The only thing Taylor does better is attacking down the wing, I think Taylor is very over rated.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
I wouldnt say Taylor is overrated. But I did used to get a lot of stick for believing Pieters was the better of the two.
Taylor has come on massively now and as the younger man has to start. But Pieters isnt any worse a player.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
Pieters is proper Dutch! Happy to play anywhere. Worth his weight.
Bardsley too is a real pro.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
I disagree. Taylor isn't overrated. But I do agree he's great getting down the wing and more than once (not just tonight) I've seen Pieters with the opportunity to go down towards the byline and he turns back for the "lets keep it" ball.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
Pieters has been excellent but when he is upfield and we lose possession he is not the quickest getting back.
More than happy to have him with us. His utility ability is a big bonus.

Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
Given the job this man does in whatever position Dyche asks, we'd need to sign at least two players to cover him !!
Re: Eric Pieters - backup?
Pieters is excellent backup, but to suggest he better than Taylor in any element of his game is simply untrue (apart from staying fit)
