Sheff Utd - First Yorkshire team to win at OT in PL era
That little stat surprised me when I heard it on the radio this morning.

Re: Sheff Utd - First Yorkshire team to win at OT in PL era
It sounds impressive...how many Yorkshire teams have been in the PL, though?
Leeds U
Sheffield U
Sheffield W
Bradford C
Huddersfield T
Hull C (old boundaries!?)
Leeds apart, none of those are / were particularly strong. HT 2 seasons, BC 2 seasons, HC 3-4 seasons. SW not been in PL since 2000.
Surprising, I agree, but a bit of a "non-stat", if you know what I mean. Still, their first win there since 1973- 1 more than our recent Anfield hoodoo lifting. Still think ours was more impressive, though! (I would say that, I live in Sheffield LOL)

I'd forgotten about Huddersfield being the PL when I was sat here working out which teams were from Yorkshire

It’s not all that surprising when you look at how poorly and sporadically that County has been represented in the division in its existence. It’s two traditional “Big Hitters” Leeds and Sheffield Weds have been absent for 15 and 20 years respectively. Sheffield Utd have been fleeting visitors, and if you add Barnsley, Bradford, Huddersfield, and Hull, do you even break double figures in years.
If Middlesbrough have ever won at OT then his stat is a bit questionable, as Middlesbrough is traditionally a North Riding town.

Those stats just prove what a poor state football is in Yorkshire. No wonder Yorkshires finest support Lancashires finest

Upset of the season according to the MOTD pundits, have they forgotten our win at Anfield less than a week ago.
A good win for the Blades, sadly for them they only have a visit to the Etihad this weekend.

I wouldn’t disagree with the pundits. They’re bottom of the league, Man United second and on a great run.
Liverpool are in the middle of a poor run and the places between us an them are less.
This isn’t to devalue our brilliant win, but I’d say that the Sheff United one was a greater upset.

If you are counting Middlesbrough as Yorkshire then they have beaten Man U three times at Old Trafford in the Premier League. They won 3-2 (1998/99), 1-0 (2001/02) and 3-2 (2003/04)

Errrrr I assume the OP is just referring to the League as....
Sheffield United are only the third side from Yorkshire to win at Old Trafford in any competition during the Premier League era, after Leeds United in January 2010 (FA Cup) and York City in September 1996 (League Cup).

Yes PL only, that York win was when Paul Barnes bagged 2 in a 3-0 victory., was that Leeds game 11 years ago, blimey! that's gone quickly I didn't realise it was over a decade since that day.Bosscat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 6:51 pmErrrrr I assume the OP is just referring to the League as....

It hadn't occurred to me until the other day that none of the founder members of the football league were from Yorkshire.
