England vs India - Test Series
Just 8 days until England play India in the first test of what will be a very tough tour. I would normally be really looking forward to watching this..... but here's the problem. At this moment in time, no company has managed to secure rights to show the test series in England (and by extension for me Ireland)
Will it be on Sky? Looking unlikely. Will it be streamed on Disney Plus to the UK only, so no option to watch in Ireland? Is it going to be streamed throguh the disaster that is the Cricinfo website? Will they secure no international broadcasters?
We'll have to wait and see. it might be an old ceefax text score update only. Which would be a huge shame.

Blood and sand Dan, I was really looking forward to the series and just assumed it’d be on Sky. Cripes. Here’s hoping!
Re: England vs India - Test Series
Tough series, particularly with Somejerk Rammedmikar coming into the form of his life.
Let's hope we can see it.

It'll definitely be on Willow, Dan.

What a waste of time if it’s a series in empty grounds that no one can watch. Might as well play it out with Howzat

vip.lc stream all sports with great quality streams. I watch all the footie on there and watched some of the Sri Lanka test on there without any problems.

Re: England vs India - Test Series
I wasn't aware no broadcaster had yet secured the rights to this series, I must say that surprises me, I'd have thought this would be an in demand contest, and it would be a shame if UK & Ireland viewers can't access it, is it purely down to finance, or is there other issues at play here.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 8:53 pmJust 8 days until England play India in the first test of what will be a very tough tour. I can understand why they'd be reluctant to show the first 2 tests and the 4th, due to the early starts UK time, but even so there would be interest I'm sure, especially during a lockdown period, is this another sign that test cricket is playing 2nd fiddle to white ball cricket, it certainly appears so.

Seems like the rights are being held hostage for a premium price, reading between the lines Tiger76. They're owned by the company that own Disney Plus (star Sports) and they seem to be trying to secure a deal at a premium price, with the threat of streaming it through their disney plus platform.
It's a bizarre situation.

BBC scorecard and text is probably all i can hope for here in U.S........What happened to Geoffrey Boycott? He's no longer on the match commentary....he added a bit of interest.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 8:53 pmJust 8 days until England play India in the first test of what will be a very tough tour. The Guardian OBO is normally good.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
I'm more upset about Talksport having the radio rights and not TMS.

Re: England vs India - Test Series
I've got 54 Indian Channels on my eye pee tee vee including 3 star sports.
I'm pretty confident it will be on one of these.
Not sure about English commentary if it's not being beamed back to the UK though. Bit late to be sending anyone out there now.

Re: England vs India - Test Series
Oh1 didn't know that, well! I suppose I'll have to to tolerate them for a couple of hours in the morning before heading out to work, I've never listened to them before for the cricket, so it might be a culture shock for me, as long as they focus on the action, and there's not too many ad breaks I guess I can cope.

Re: England vs India - Test Series
Talksport is a dreadful station. Also didn’t realise none of the Tv companies had secured rights. Fingers crossed that changes.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
With a bit of luck the successful broadcaster will have Bill Lawry fronting their coverage, it will cost them to get him out of his beloved Victoria but he adds that something to calling the game that money can't buy.

I've heard that he's already sent a few pigeons over to do quarantine before he gets there. I think somebody said Wendy had recovered from her injury and was there.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
We don't want any comm box chaos, you know what happened last time, it spoilt his legendary chemistry with Tony Greig.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 10:51 pmI've heard that he's already sent a few pigeons over to do quarantine before he gets there. In terms of the cricket, if there's some more typical stinking hot days in Bombay and they produce a bunsen, I can see Rubesh Binny getting a call up and that may tip the balance in India's favour.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
The idea of Talksport usurping TMS is frightening.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
Sounds like channel 4 are in pole position to grab the TV rights. Pleasant surprise for those of us without Sky.

Channel 4 used to have very good coverage and analysis when they had the Test series.
Was it Simon Hughes?

They were very good. Was dubious when BBC lost Test Cricket.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 5:47 pmChannel 4 used to have very good coverage and analysis when they had the Test series.

But 4's coverage was excellent.
And yes, Simon Hugh's covered it.
They also took time to go into the various layers of the game those less familiar them would find interesting.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
Simon Hughes seemed to spend all summer stuck in the back of a truck doing the analysis if i remember rightly! Mark Nicholas was the main presenter. If they do get the rights hope they bring back Mambo number 5 for the theme music

Terrestrial TV news is great...... as long as it doesn't bring Mark Nicholas and Michael Vaughan with it.

Re: England vs India - Test Series
Just done some more reading on the potential Channel 4 deal....
World Series feed from India for Comms...... and studio guests including Vaughan and Kevin Pieterson.
There is one upside. It will really highlight how good the team of Ward, Key, Hussain, Atherton and Lloyd are.

The jury is still out on Ward, but I just think it's an effort to be there for Rob Key. He would rather be on a golf course and it shows through too much.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 7:26 pmJust done some more reading on the potential Channel 4 deal....

I was hoping a revitalised David Gower might come back somewhere.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
The Guardian are reporting that its a done deal, channel 4 have got the rights to the full series, including the one dayers and T20s. Fans back in from the second test match as well.

I think i read somewhere covid cases and deaths have really dropped, and none of the experts could really figure out why, apart from maybe lots of people having antibodies already?

Well that’s good news at least.
Re: England vs India - Test Series
Channel 4 will show exclusive free to air live television coverage of England’s Test series against India.
Starting with the opening Test from Chennai this Friday (5.2.21), ball by ball coverage of all four Tests will be shown live on Channel 4 and All 4.

Commentary coming from the world feed, where Nick Knight and Mark Butcher are the English representatives to a heavily Indian influenced commentary team.
In the studio, it's rumoured to be Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen
Any body figure out what time Lunch is tomorrow? I~ll be heading out for morning exercise at that time, rather than listening to those 2.

Think a lot of his bitterness stems from Sky Sports not wanting him.

Crawley has been ruled out of the first 2 tests after falling over and hurting his hand
