3 from 4?
3 from 4?
After Brighton's win at Liverpool tonight
I think we can say it's now 3 from 4 in respect to who's likely to be going down.
Can't see Newcastle not getting sufficient points to stay up. Nor Brighton.
The good news is that we have a 8 point cushion to Fulham, 10 to West Brom and 11 to Sheff. United.
That's thanks to the wins at Liverpool and against Villa.
We've still got to play Fulham (twice I think), West Brom at home and Sheff. United away.
The bad news is that anyone one of those in the bottom 3 could get a few wins and start closing the gap.
There's still 16/17 games left.
I'm getting a tad nervous to say the least.

I think we'll be fine. Although we have been fortunate that the bottom 3 aren't up to much.

Have you not seen who we've played in our recent run of fixtures?jurek wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:26 pmAfter Brighton's win at Liverpool tonight

Re: 3 from 4?
Yes I have and am grateful we got those wins against Liverpool
and Villa but at the same time we could have very easily lost both those games.
Had we then we could not have complained.
Both Liverpool and Villa couldn't believe they had lost to us.
I just hope there's more of that to come but I'm not feeling
that confident at present especially with the injuries we've got.

Re: 3 from 4?
This is getting sooooo boring. If we were 13th people like you would say it’s 3 from 8.
We have almost identical league stats to Newcastle, and have played a game less - so ruling them out whilst putting us in the mix is totally nonsensical.

Don't wish to sound too pessimistic DomBFC1882 but I do think Newcastle
have too much to go down.
They have players who can score goals. We're struggling to score.
Defensively we're better but goals win games.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but nobody can ever believe that they’ve lost to us. However it happens far more than we are ever given credit for.jurek wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:36 pmYes I have and am grateful we got those wins against Liverpool

Re: 3 from 4?
I find it staggering that after a couple of defeats we are now back in a dogfight. These are elite teams we have a game in hand against Fulham at home and play Brighton Saturday. Not only that we have a 8 point cushion,I think for the last 5 or 6 week of this season we will practically have nothing left to play for.God knows what some will moan about then!

Re: 3 from 4?
The current bottom 3 will go down, yes we've had a couple of setbacks, but against Chelsea and City that's to be expected, and the table could look very different after the next 3 games, the only team in the bottom 8 to have beaten us is Newcastle, and that was at the start of the season when we were short of players, and also in poor form, so what makes folk think we can't get results against the lower half sides, we've done it often enough in this league down the years, so have some faith in the players, they haven't let us down for the past 5 seasons have they.
Re: 3 from 4?
Rest easy, we will easily finish above Brighton, and the bottom three for that matter. Looking at the remaining fixtures I'd say we will finish around 14th
Re: 3 from 4?
Sorry everybody I’m just feeling nervous
and worried. I get like this from time to time
and I’m desperate for us to stay up, get goals and play well.

Thing is you only need one goal to win a game, and we have that mastered.

Ask Bournemouth about being no where near the bottom 3 with still half the season to play went

Very tight, lots of twists and turns to come. Will depend largely on keeping Tarks/Pope/ Mee free from suspensions and injuries
Re: 3 from 4?
They were in the bottom three. We were only four points clear and Brighton were on the same number of points as they are now.

Re: 3 from 4?
Imagine if we won the next 3 league games, which given the opposition isn't that unrealistic. We'd basically be safe!
A couple of draws & a win against WBA would be more than satisfactory though in my opinion. Even a defeat we could take as long as we win the others.

Re: 3 from 4?
We were above both Newcastle and Brighton yesterday yet suddenly they are fireproof, one of them without even playing. What I'm sure you meant to say was "I think I can say ...." and not "I think we can say ....".
What an incredible overreaction to us losing against Manchester City.

Re: 3 from 4?
3 league games coming up which will be absolutely pivotal. As mentioned above we MIGHT JUST get away with it come May because the bottom 3 are so poor and are so far adrift and I feel that our barren transfer window reflects that view from within the club. But it's a huge risk and we can't bank on that. We HAVE to put in performances against those around us starting on Saturday or somebody drowning down there could well see a lifeline.

Re: 3 from 4?
We were lucky against Liverpool and Villa?
Does that mean being unlucky when we could so easily have beaten Tottenham at home?
It's irrelevant if a performance is good or bad, it's points, pure and simple. We will not be caught by any of the bottom 3 teams.

Re: 3 from 4?
Always different ways of looking at different things.
Yes, Brighton's wins are bad news bu there are no guarantees they're out of it. I will willingly take a point on Saturday.
As for Newcastle who knows? They rely enormously on Wilson but, and I'm being serious, who's to say Joelinton won't finally start scoring?
Although SU have found a lifeline it's asking a hell of a lot for them to turn their season around. West Brom concede so many they will really struggle to stay up. My worry is Fulham. We need them to lose as many as possible in the near future.
And, of course, above all we need to do the business. I remain convinced our strikers will score more in the second part of the season.

They will do well to get another 2 points before playing us

3 from 7, with us included.
We've just had two very hard games, in fact we've had a particularly tough run of them recently.
Don't expect us to be bottom 5 meself

But we didn't........ and if they're struggling to believe it, all the need to do is look in the paper for the results.jurek wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:36 pmYes I have and am grateful we got those wins against Liverpool

Do you reckon Liverpool are struggling to believe they lost vs Brighton last night as well?
Seems a strange time to post this - why not after Burnley had beaten Liverpool? Table was broadly the same.
Anyway...... you know how hard it is to win at Liverpool don't you? It's so hard, not even Liverpool have done it this year.

Of course we'd all like to see more exciting football, and we've shown glimpses in the Wolves & Villa games that we can play, but ultimately it's points that matter, and we've had to dig some results out this season, however if we continue showing the desire and attitude that we have throughout the season we'll be fine.
And it's worth pointing out we've come through a really tough run of fixtures, and picked up some unexpected wins, now we have a run of 4 games where you'd expect to pick up points, but we do need to put 5/7 points minimum on the board from these 4 games, because the following games are tough looking, on paper at least.
Equally if we hit a purple patch, we could be virtually safe by the end of the month. So it is a pivotal spell in our season, I just hope we can get close to a full strength side on the pitch for these crucial matches, if we can that should stand us in good stead.
Re: 3 from 4?
No point worrying , nothing you can do to influence the result anyway.jurek wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:36 pmYes I have and am grateful we got those wins against Liverpool

Not one of my mates or family members thinks we will go down, I honestly think we will be 8-10 points clear of third bottom come the end of the season

Some absolutely massive games coming up. Historically we've always picked up the bulk of our points from those teams in and around us.

Re: 3 from 4?
Absolutely! and what gives me confidence is our results against these teams already this season, we've drawn with Brighton & West Brom, and beaten Palace and Fulham, albeit the latter was in the cup, so we have nothing to fear from these games I'll be surprised if we don't muster at least 6 points from those fixtures, although we may even eclipse that number. And a good haul this month and we'll be close to safety with still about a 1/3 of the season to play, considering our sluggish start, that would be a great achievement.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:23 pmSome absolutely massive games coming up. Forget about the League. It’s all about the Cup this season.
