Not the best post considering the current circumstances! I lay my wife to rest on the 11th Feb and I have changed the 3 songs that are asked for so many times.

Great stuff so far .... Love "Man in a Box idea" but a bit sexits. I'd prefer Sandy Denny's classic And who knows where the time goes...

I went to a funeral and as the curtains opened, shirley Bassie singing smoke gets in your eyes started to play, there were a few smiles amongst the mourners

The only problem with having popular songs at funerals is every time they get played afterwards, is they link you back to the funeral and sad times.

I've also heard "Here Comes the Sun" by George Harrison at the last one I went to, very uplifting - you can't help singing along.
Re: Fun at your funeral...
I can't believe that this post has been basicaly ignored by all posters so far! deepest sympathys Al i know how difficlt it is picking the 3 songs, i had to choose for my dad. the main one we had was smile by barbara streisand, a deeply touching song which seemed to do the trick. I hope all goes well for you on the 11th and i will be thinking of you on the day.

Re: Fun at your funeral...
Condolences to you.
When it came to songs for my dad's funeral last year, a friend of mine told me that whatever we chose, we would always struggle to listen to those songs again and he was right, I can't listen to them without being transported back to that day.

I went to a funeral a few years ago and the person knew they were dying and had chosen "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life". It did raise more than a chuckle in the crematorium.

Re: Fun at your funeral...
A friend of mine had this a few years ago. I have got to admit that in "real life" it made me cringe a bit.
The guy next door to me is a keen cyclist. One of his cycling chums passed on and they played "I want to ride my bicycle" Apparently the place erupted into fits of laughter. . .

For me it would be either The Lords My Shepherd or Lord of All Hopefulness. I would also like the reading of Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

Kindonesque doing his best to upset everyone again. If he had anything to say about it, we’d have to sit through the entire back catalogue of Van Der Graff Generator at his wake. I know, it doesn’t bare thinking about.

Condolences to ClaretAl and Funkydrummer. Having lost both parents I can empathise. It must be particularly hard Funkydrummer losing both within such a short space of time.
At my Dads service 15 years ago we played songs that reminded us of him. It is very poignant now whenever I hear them.
