Superbowl LV tonight.
Anyone watching it?
Who's your money on to win?

Re: Superbowl LV tonight.
It a not something I’m into... on a slightly different note, what are they doing fan wise, over the pond? I’m guessing they’re not playing to empty stadiums?

As a buccaneers fan I am hoping rather than expecting a win. It’s been too long since we were in the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl itself!

They are giving 25,000 vaccinated front line workers and military tickets for the Super Bowl. Most games since the restart have had 5k+ in the stadiums

Chiefs by cakewalk, Mahomes on a new level atm. We could do with signing Tyreek Hill for our right midfield.

Re: Superbowl LV tonight.
Long time Miami Dolphins fan - still want Brady to win...
Tom Brady's story is possibly the best in all of sports history; he wasn't even a starter throughout high school or college, gets drafted in the 6th round and becomes the greatest QB of all time winning 6 rings - incredible.
Oh far from a cakewalk - the Buccs have a very good defense, if they can turn the ball over and limit the chiefs on explosive plays (easier said than done) they are in with a shot...
Similar to when Miami played the Chiefs this season - unfortunately we let them get hot over a 10 minute or so period that ultimately cost us the game
Edit : spelling mistake

watched the finals a couple of weeks ago and loved it; not watched the sport for years so no expertise at all at the current crop. But I will say that the Chiefs absolutely hammered Buffalo and looked very strong so I'll go for them. But you can never count out Brady who seems to have galvanized the Bucs. Cant wait to watch it, a great final in prospect.

Re: Superbowl LV tonight.
Chiefs have a few offensive linesmen missing and the Buccaneers have a good defence which may cause some problems for Mahomes. Keep an eye out for Devin White who is having a great season. Then again, Mahomes is so good that he'll probably just dancing around any oncoming pressure. I'd like the Buccaneers to win, mostly because Chiefs won it last season. Would also be good to see Brady win it with a team that isn't the Patriots -- an incredible effort from him this season at the age of 43. However, I have a feeling the Chiefs will win but I also think it'll be close. Also look forward to seeing Mathieu (the Honey Badger) play. He's on another level.

Exactly the same as me, fella! I'll be watching in my Bucs shirt...watching a game there is on my bucket list. Have you ever been?
Why are they your team? Mine because I had relatives lived near there...thank goodness they moved away from Michigan when they retired from GM, or I'd be a Lions fan...damned! LOL
I just think Mahomes et al will have a bit too much, and if they pressure Brady, it could be a long night. I'll say Chiefs by 10, but hope Bucs can sneak it with a late FG!

Dolphins fan so hate Brady, although am reluctantly extremely impressed with what he has achieved at Tampa.
Mahones, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce et al will be too strong for the Tampa defense and i expect Chris Jones and Frank Clark to get after Brady and force him into rushed throws.
Chiefs by 7

I don't follow NFL at all but heard about the Tom Brady incident a few years ago, when he was caught deflating the balls? (that may be wrong and I could be remembering the wrong facts)CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 11:52 amLong time Miami Dolphins fan - still want Brady to win...

But as an outsider, from the story of Brady's career, how much has that incident stained his career?

Strange story. My thought at the time was why did none of the opposition complain, if they were notably softer. At that time Belichick’s Pats were pushing rules to the limit.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 3:30 pmI don't follow NFL at all but heard about the Tom Brady incident a few years ago, when he was caught deflating the balls? Re: Superbowl LV tonight.
Heart says Buccs, head says chiefs. Not just a great story for Brady, Bruce Arians seems like a top bloke and has had a brilliant career without a SB win as head coach. If the Buccs defense comes out firing on all cylinders it could be a close one, but they'll need a way to get to pressure on Mahomes or he'll get far too many points on the board. So either a wide margin for the chiefs or a squeaky bum time victory for Buccs. It would be unreal if Brady closed it out on the last drive of the 4th. That's the fairytale I'd like to see!

Re: Superbowl LV tonight.
Packers fan, so I was not best pleased with the result at Lambeau.
Tampa will not start as favourites, which I think will be good for them. Chiefs missing their 1st choice offensive tackles so I think they'll struggle to cope with the Tampa defence. Mahomes' mobility could negate that, but he hasn't looked to be quite himself in the latter part of the season. Furthermore, over the years I've found it wise not to back against Brady, so it's the Bucs to win, for me.
Of course every Chiefs fan who knows me will be delighted by that prediction and expect a 2nd Straight Superbowl.

Can anyone explain to me what it is about NFL they like? I don’t understand the game, or why people over here follow it. That’s not to put it down or anything, I’m just intrigued. Also, I wonder if UK fans of NFL are stereotyped the same way as USA followers of our football teams?

It's quite a tactical game tbh, seeing the different set ups and plays.
You should try watching the series on Amazon Prime, All or Nothing.
You'll pick up quite a bit from that about the whole set up, one of the head coaches tonight is on it with his previous team.

I think it's 4-5 seasons and its really good.
There's one on Netflix that follows the journey of the 3 top rated high school Quarter backs for that year in each season and that's quite interesting too.
Both shows give an insight into stuff behind all the showy stuff and might help you understand it.
Cam Newton dresses like a wazzock though, I don't care what anyone says

Oh and if you're on The Athletic they've got a really good article about how the Chiefs had to move around their draft picks to get Mahomes.

Am I correct in thinking its actually started? on my TV it goes from nothing happening except reds versus whites crashing into each other, then reverts back to mark chapman talking to some americans in a studio, then back to the game. ...where nothing happens. The ball is hardly ever visible, and all the play seems to end up as a throw in. Its hideous. whoever thought this was worthy should be ecstatic with american wrestling. I cannot believe anyone can enjoy this.

Re: Superbowl LV tonight.
Without getting into tactics, it's all about the construction of the play trying to get up to the end zone to get a touchdown. Having to gain 10 yards with a max of 4 throws creates a constant tension and pressure on the Quarterback and the attacking team to get forward. It's just not possible to throw it 40/50 yards a couple of times and get to the end zone! In this sense it's all about the Quarterback, he is the star man & I love to see them under huge pressure with mountains bearing down on them and then throwing a 20/30 yarder to get them further up the pitch and start their new 10 yards play. The throwing skill & vision needed by a Quarterback under pressure is unbelievable. At the same time, the speed, movement, athleticism and catching ability of the wingers/attackers is impressive. It's a really explosive sport, fast and powerful; short & sweet that gradually builds and builds.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 9:35 pmCan anyone explain to me what it is about NFL they like? I also like the fact that there is so much ebbing and flowing. If a team messes up their play then the opposition immediately gets their chance. If not, they have to defend, look for interceptions and force the attacking team to make mistakes. A classic attack v defence sport! A highly technical, skillful and athletic game.
Too many stoppages for adverts, that's for sure. But at least it gives you the chance to get the bog without missing anything and drinks lots whilst waiting so not too bad a thing!!

It's starting to get going now after a tight, cagey opening. Brady pulling the strings and showing his class. Can he keep it up for all the game though? And will Mahones be able to respond?
Great defence there from The Chiefs to save that touchdown.
