England at the Euros
Southgate has a real dilemma on his hands who the hell does he start at the Euros. We have so much attacking talent.
I would go with the below eleven.
Pope
Wan Bissaka, Stones, Maguire, Shaw
Foden, Rice, Grealish,
Sterling, Kane, Rashford

Re: England at the Euros
the players will be absolutely knackered physically and mentally, many (probably the lucky ones) won't play as they pick up injuries between now and then - and that goes for others not just for our country either - if so much money wasn't resting on it for UEFA and it's member nations it wouldn't be happening - players need a long summer off

Re: England at the Euros
Southgate will have Foden, Sterling, Grealish and Sancho available and will 100% start with Dier and Henderson.
At the back it’s a case of who partners Stones now.

Re: England at the Euros
I would usually agree but I think he has been pretty immense for West Ham for season.
Re: England at the Euros
I used to think that, had a huge issue with how for England he always used to manoeuvre himself into being marked and the point for teams mate to pass to others. But he’s impressed me since watching him v Leeds earlier this season, I think he’s made progress and a bit like Mount they do exactly what they are asked to do.

Re: England at the Euros
There would be financial penalties, and the technical issues are significant - in this country a lot of clubs want to replace pitches in the summer (which will create it's own challenges) and so have no time for a tournament to play on themNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 6:28 pmBe surprised if the format is not changed to just being in one nation
UEFA said recently it is their intention to stick with the multi-nation format if at all possible though they are planning for a contingency
Like I said for many it would be better if the event was cancelled in this cycle

I agree, they should scrap it now. Players will be knackered. Be good for everyone to have a break.

Said it on the match day thread, I Can’t wait to see Southgate get the best out of Foden, Grealish and Sterling. He’ll probably make his life easy and just play Rashford instead.

Re: England at the Euros
Its not about the 11 who look best on paper but which players can gel together and play as a team the way the manager wants and needs. As Burnley fans this is something we should know and understand better than a lot of other football supporters

Rice is a great player. Id be going with
Pope
TAA Stones Tarks Shaw
Rice Henderson
Grealish
Foden Kane Rashford
When Pickford, Maguire and Dier are the first names on the sheet we'll never win anything

Re: England at the Euros
A good team but to attack minded. I’d start Henderson over Rice every day of the week, a true leader.
Sterling deserves to start. Sancho doesn’t.
The dilemma with Foden and Grealish is the same we had with Lampard and Gerrard, you can’t start them both...not compatible.

Won't matter which team you pick its Southgates tactics that f$cks things up
to slow and ponderous and won't attack at pace

Re: England at the Euros
I wouldn’t class either of them as top ball winners. In the various line ups above, at Euro level, we would rarely see the ball. No doubting their abilities and I would be happy with either. The only way I could see it working is in a 4-4-2. Something like this:claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 9:52 pmWhy? one plays in the middle and the other mainly on the wing.
Pope
Trippier...Stones...Maguire...Chilwell
Sterling..Foden..Henderson..Grealish
Kane...Calvert-Lewin
My team would be:
Pope
Tarks...Stones...Maguire
Trippier...Henderson...Rice...Grealish
Sterling..Kane..Rashford
For all the quality we have at the moment we concede to easily to win the comp. Home advantage might swing that our way a little.

Re: England at the Euros
Nobody has even mentioned Greenwood. He'll be one of England's most potent forwards, for sure.
And I'd still have Henderson as a holding midfielder with Foden and Grealish ahead of him.

Pope,
Trippier, Tarks, Mee, Taylor,
Sterling, Cork, Westwood, McNeil
Ings Barnes
Kane and Grealish as impact subs on 85 minutes
Sorted

Would love to see this but highly unlikely under negative Southgate. Mason Mount (good player, I wouldn’t start him though) is a guaranteed start.
Pretty incredible depth to the team: Chilwell, Gomez, Alexander Arnold, James, Mount, Maddison, Barnes, Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, Hudson Odoi, Ings, Calvert Lewin, Eze, Bellingham.

Re: England at the Euros
Too many young and naive players with an attacking focus. You'd need one hell of a defensive midfielder and great full backs to be able to fit so many attack minded players into a team. Rice looks a great player to me and I don't personally understand why so many hate him on here. I'm just not sure he's world class. But there's a sure way to find out and that's giving him a chance.
In tough fixtures I'm sure we will go with 2dms with Henderson too.
I think Mings will definitely be going ahead of Tarkowski and Dunk which is a farce in itself but that's because Aston Villa have done well this year.
Pope won't be in the 11 because he can't kick. If he is he's going to have to throw and pass the ball short more to avoid giving away possession.
Maguire is another I don't get the hate for. He's played excellent against us and for England and in the system England play it's crucial to play out from the back.

If we win our group (we should) then we'll have either Germany, France or Portugal in last 16 in Dublin and we won't go further than that.

Can’t believe there’s much appetite for this competition, can you imagine how dull it will be watching an international game without fans in the ground?

Re: England at the Euros
This lot should be getting close to winning it... whether they get to the quarter finals is actually up for debate.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 6:18 pmGot to be in with a decent shout of at least getting to the semi finals.
They have the skill and the ability, they just need the right guidance, the right team selection, the right game plan and the right message. They’ll get none of them from GS, so yet another underwhelming and under achieving tournament for us I’m afraid.
