That's Sheffield down then
With the best will in the World, Sheffield will not exceed 30 points. Simply not enough to stay up.
WBA are unlikely to get any more.
That leaves Fulham. I get a maximum of 33 points for them, leaving us to get 11 points from 16 games. Easy !

Sheff Utd are playing well, they just can't seem to get the results so I can't see them getting out of this one.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
Their recent form, isn't actually that bad, they've won 3 and lost 3 of their last 6, however the problem for them is that they had a terrible start, and even with their recent upturn they are still well adrift of safety, I really can't see how they'll be able to pick up enough points to give themselves a realistic shot, and the same applies to West Brom, the only team in the bottom 3 that have a chance of catching us is Fulham, and that's only because we still have to play them twice, and the real kicker for the bottom 3 is the fact that all the teams above them are picking up points at a fair rate, as long as that continues it's hard to see how any of Fulham, West Brom or Sheff Utd can survive.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 9:53 pmSheff Utd are playing well, they just can't seem to get the results so I can't see them getting out of this one.

Southampton, Leeds United, Wolves, Tottenham are all very hit and miss this season. It’s a big ask of course, but they’ve got very winnable games to play. Only 3 of the Top 6 to play and who knows what Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham side will turn up.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
They'd need to continue their recent form (3 wins from six)
over their last 15 games.
If they did then they could get 35 or so points which might just be enough.
And that's only IF we couldn't manage to get another 12 points or so from our remaining
16 games or Brighton and Newcastle only manage 10 or less points from their remaining 15 games.
It's a tall order but do recall Leicester doing something similar 4/5 seasons ago
when they looked doomed.
I suppose if they did manage it then you'd have to say well done to them.
But not at our expense.
It's Fulham, I think, who we need to keep an eye on.
They were a tad unlucky not to get the 3 points against West Ham.
And we've got to play them twice.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
2 of Sheff U’s recent wins were WBA & N’castle both at home. Fair play to them for the ManU away win but a one off I would suspect.
They just don’t score enough to survive.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
I’d take two draws or one win and one defeat from the two Fulham games, if offered it now. Ideally though we will be collecting four points. Won’t be easy though, they’re looking much better lately.jurek wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 10:34 pmThey'd need to continue their recent form (3 wins from six)

A team that I actually don’t mind. It did take them a hell of a long time to recover from Wembley 2009
Sooner see them stay up than Brighton, Fulham & West Brom

Re: That's Sheffield down then
Yes. But they must be conceding more as they only have 3 wins to our 6.
Re: That's Sheffield down then
15 games to go and to have a chance they probably need another 24 points or more, you are probably talking 7 wins and 4 draws. West Brom and Sheffield Utd are going to have to do something exceptional to stay up now. They probably also need us, Brighton or Newcastle to have a terrible run too as we're all on target to get 38 or more.
Our double header at home against Fulham and West Brom is going to have a big impact particularly as Sheff Utd play Fulham when we play West Brom.

I do think Sheffield United are going to finish above both WBA and Fulham.

not saying they will get out of it, it's very unlikely, but for anyone to write anyone off at this stage of the season is very premature.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
If we win our next 2 home games we are safe, 4 points would also probably do it, if the win was v Fulham.
I thought 4 wins after the villa game would be enough, the fact none have gained much ground on us in the 3 games after is worry for them as we have only picked up 1 point.
Our next 2 home games a pretty big to be fair, 6 points finishes them off IMO, but who knows 0 points could spark one if them off and get our nerves jiggling a touch

Re: That's Sheffield down then
The two times we play Fulham will be massive in our survival this year. Two wins would see us stop up and totally deflate Fulham. However two draws wouldn't be the worse outcome.
The key will be not losing either game to them, just don't lose. They win both they'll have confidence in stopping up.

Sheffield United and WBA gone already
Fulham haven't got the stomach for a fight, you only have to look at their players to see that

I'd like to think that we'll get away with our terrible start to this season largely because the bottom 3 are so poor, BUT Fulham still worry me as they're aren't nearly as bad as the other 2 and we HAVE to turn up in the games that matter, principally the ones against those teams in and around us. Plus, although it's February, there are still loads of games left due to the weird nature of the season.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
I feel sorry for Sheffield Utd. I like the club, always have, but sooner them take a relegation spot than us. As said on MotD, it’s hard to look beyond the current bottom three for relegation and barring the two games against Chelsea and City (no surprise there) we have been playing well, and second half against Brighton was a joy to watch. We have no problems other than how high we finish I believe.

Leicester got 2 more points in their next six matches before going on that fantastic run.

Re: That's Sheffield down then
I hope you're right, but we are constantly battling injuries to key players this season and we're just about managing that situation, but if one of our first choice CB's goes down we're truly f'd. We played well on Saturday and you'd like to think if we play like that against most other teams in the bottom half we'll be too good for them, but we have to maintain that level basically every game because our start has left us hovering just above the abyss.

And Leicester weren't 8 points adrift ! A bridge too far for any of the bottom 3! As has been said above, by several contributors, our double- header against Fulham will be decisive.nonayclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 10:13 amFans on here were saying the same about Leicester, the season before they won the PL. Re: That's Sheffield down then
Be a real shame, but the league at the end of 38 games does not lie and it will take a minor miracle for them to survive. It makes their achievements last year even more incredible. THe real surprise is that 13 PL teams have conceded more goals than them this season , which just shows how many games they lose by the odd goal
Re: That's Sheffield down then
I think pundits have noticed that their defence looks more solid but haven't noticed that they have stopped scoring. 6 goals in the last 12 league games, no wins, 8 draws. I suppose they might start snatching 1-0's like we do, but no sign of it yet.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:09 pmIt's a bit of a myth that Fulham are looking better etc.......They've not won for 13 games!

I think it’s because they picked up a couple of notable draws albeit they’ve have plenty of games they’d really expect to win and taken little from them.

Picking up lots of draws is not the best way to go marching up the table. It’ll be a miracle if they catch us.
It’ll be a shame for 1940’s matinee screen idol Scott Parker to get relegated, but I’ll happy if it means we stay up.

(Or maybe he’s a Battle of Britain fighter ace.)
Re: That's Sheffield down then
It really shows how efficient we are when we score.
When we score a goal, especially if we score first we are likely to win.
Fulham clearly need to score 2-3 goals to win many games.
That's why we are well clear of them despite scoring fewer goals.
