Many of the songs quoted on here were never near number ones: I do appreciate that one hit wonder can be used in a looser sense meaning an act that had one big hit followed not much else, so I can understand these songs being mentioned.

Re: Music's One Hit Wonders...
Listening to Music this Morning and Cant Believe Iggy Pop didn't have a uk number one with "WildOne".that apart...... picked up a tune off Spotify in the early Hours By Suicide "I Surrender" it Could have been released Last week for all I know but it was actually 1977. I bought a few Albums that year which apparently peaked for Vynil records....then they went into decline. Anyway "I surrender" by Suicide may Float your Boat.

Managed to get the headmaster to play half of it at the end of year school disco until he realised all the boys started acting up on the dance floor firing Uzi 9mm's at each other.

Re: Music's One Hit Wonders...
It was banned by the BBC because of it's 'death' theme, a lot of songs since have also been obsessed with a similar tone. In 1962 he followed it up with 'Wild Wind' which reached No2 in the UK charts. An acting career followed and he was one of three characters that gained freedom in 'The Great Escape'. Born in 1936 and still with us so he's having a good innings.

Re: Music's One Hit Wonders...
Got a book for Christmas from a relative in the USA at the moment '1001 Songs(You Must Hear Before You Die). Not as morbid as the title suggests, it begins with a write up on O Sole Mio by Enrico Caruso(1916) and then on to the 20's and 30's, year by year, right up to modern times. Have to check out the unfamiliar songs on Spotify but it's interesting the number of songs/tunes I recognise but never realised what the title was. Up to 1964 currently and with an interesting write up on each song and artist. John Leyton's 'Johnny Remember Me' was selected from 1961 and referred to as a 'death disc' produced by legendary Joe Meek with Chas Hodges (of much later Chas n' Dave) playing bass. I love popular music; can you tell?
