Re: Dyche sending a message?
I love how some think we can't be caught when we have to play Fulham twice and there are also 14 other games (42 points) still to go.
When I saw the team tonight I just thought Dyche was being sensible given our injury situation and the hectic schedule we are undertaking. The fact that we then played so badly is inexcusable but the team selection...I have no problem with that at all.

Last Saturday when he played an exquisite volleyed pass into Vydra whose shot was then saved.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:36 pm
Westy is still our biggest threat from corners, but from open play, what happened to the through balls he used to play. When was the last time he set up a chance with a perfectly weighted, perfectly lined pass.
Sorry....I do actually agree with a lot of what you say though there have been signs in the second half v Villa and Brighton that we CAN get at teams in an entertaining and effective fashion when we turn up the tempo.

Dyche sends a message? Tell you what - I’ll send him a message.
After that farce in Athens, you were on your final warning. Thanks (most sincerely). Now it’s time to clear off.

That back 4 tonight was possibly the worst back 4 that’s played for Burnley this century. This was written in 2021

I believe we should always, and in every case, play our strongest team, not to do so belittles a competition and dishonours the fans. Always said so and always will.

I'm not watching the match, but looking at the updates it appears that West Ham seem to have lot two centre halves through injury tonight at Old Trafford. Plus Bowen and Yarmalenko?
Can easily happen.

This is the manager who can be quoted as having said players stay at a high level of fitness well into their 30s,
who has also said (when in the championship) that players are capable of sustaining 2 games per week.

Re: Dyche sending a message?
Come on, second half against Brighton took us all by surprise, and is probably partly to blame as to why we are all so miffed now. We hoped we'd turned a corner, tonight showed we haven't. I agree that when we get on the front foot we are a different team, so it begs the question, why are we so reluctant to do it. Tonight we never got out of first gear, if we actually made that. More like 3 old men pushing a Moggy Thou uphill.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:50 pmLast Saturday when he played an exquisite volleyed pass into Vydra whose shot was then saved.

Until we have enough points to put us beyond any chance of relegation then I won’t be taking anything for granted. Personally I couldn’t give a dead ratsass about the cups, they are irrelevant to us. You have your opinion and I have mine, but I think mine is closer to the club’s philosophy than yours.

Re: Dyche sending a message?
Blimey !!!! You do realise that EVERY club is rotating players at the moment with games coming every 3 or 4 days and injuries mounting. Our squad is very shallow in terms of quality...I'm sure Dyche would like to have a bench like many PL clubs but we don't . The lack of investment in the squad over the past 3/4 years is the cause of this, not something which I believe Dyche is much of a fan of.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:51 pmDyche sends a message? Re: Dyche sending a message?
Look at our overall form. Look at the points we have after that dreadful start. Do you seriously think we are going to suddenly collapse? Yes we play Fulham twice...that is a GOOD thing...6 points possible against the the only team that can realistically catch us. I absolutely have no relegation worries whatsoever and Dyche should have given the fans something to look forward to.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:47 pmI love how some think we can't be caught when we have to play Fulham twice and there are also 14 other games (42 points) still to go.

Re: Dyche sending a message?
I don’t agree. I’ve not bothered about the FA cup since the late 80s and I have no reason to change my mind. Opinions differ, but I reckon I’m a lot less stressed this evening than those who wanted a cup run. In the bad old days, a good cup run was a financial necessity whereas these days, especially without a crowd, there isn’t a financial draw for clubs with thin squads. Times change, and cup runs are tailor made for lower league clubs or Prem teams with deep squads.

Re: Dyche sending a message?
Dyche was simply using what he had at his disposal bearing in mind injuries to key players Wood/ Taylor/Brownhill /Brady etc and Pieters suspended . Was a truly awful back line but we can’t help we needed 3rd choice LB or 4/5th choice midfielders .

TBH. If we can't stay ahead of the 3 currently below us then we deserve to go down.houseboy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:59 pmLook at our overall form. And maybe that's the wake-up call we need to get a bit of action at the top.

Aye but a lot of these clubs who employ these “fashionable” coaches tend to regret it and pay them off rather soon after

Re: Dyche sending a message?
I couldn’t agree more. However, that’s the system that’s in place. All the traditional Big Clubs with big crowds would probably survive to some degree, but we would be in the group that most probably wouldn’t. Finances are all important, especially now we find ourselves in debt, and any chance of dropping out of the league should be removed as soon as possible. If we had 30 plus points on the board I would be more in the ‘cup run’ mob but, for me, not at the moment.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:59 pmUnfortunately that is the attitude that is ruining football.

Re: Dyche sending a message?
I love Dyche and definitely one who wants him to stay forever. However his stubbornness in the transfer windows with signing older players and not younger exciting ones in addition to his stubbornness with tactics, substitution and failing to change formation when we play the likes of Man City is a real head scratcher
Re: Dyche sending a message?
but how many times do we need to see the same pattern? and Dyche absolutely didn't need to pick themevensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 7:53 pmThe whole club ? Off the evidence of a lousy performance from a group of fringe players ?
Look at the games coming up - are you really suggesting that risking absolutely key players is worth it ? The stand-in players were given their chance to perform on a reasonably big stage and they blew it. Dyche had to pick them, had to rely on them and they weren't up to it individually or collectively.
Re: Dyche sending a message?
Here's the problem, its either or with some extreme posters, if we'd have tried to win tonight we'd have been left with half of our team out injured and ultimately relegated.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 8:36 pmGiven the current table Id have definitely took beating Bournemouth over Palace. Show a bit of courage you soft arse cos we are more than capable of having a go at beating Bournemouth and staying up comfortably at the same time
Re: Dyche sending a message?
I don't really trust Dyche in the transfer market anymore. From what I've heard, Brownhill was Rigg's find. I think Dyche is going backwards with his transfer targets.DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 9:22 pmI love Dyche and definitely one who wants him to stay forever. Pace: Why did you put out such a bad team tonight
Dyche: Cups aren't important only staying in the Premier League is important.
Pace: Do you mean we can get relegated? I thought this was like the MSL? I need to phone Robinhood.

It can't be easy as another small team would have performed as well.
You only have to see how difficult it is for many promoted clubs with limited budgets to stay in the Prem.

Re: Dyche sending a message?
Dyche’s success has been built entirely around the defence and its covering midfield two, that’s why the first choices were all rested tonight (he had very little option with Pieters, but even that backfired). He was prepared to risk the two wingers, but had little option elsewhere with Wood, Brownhill, Brady, Taylor and probably Cork out injured and important games looming.DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 9:35 pmExactly. It was not the selection that was pathetic it was the unprofessional and embarrassing manner, lack of fight and missing skill that has p***ed everyone off. Especially as it was a televised game broadcast to a seriously wide audience.
