Don’t be a dick, I know that’s difficult for you. So, by that, you’re saying that if Dyche had put a half decent team tonight then we would get automatically relegated? Get a grip.
No, I'm saying that players needed resting and fringe players needed games.

Now, are you sure you're capable of understanding that? If not, bore off.

It’s not the players, IMO. For me this comes from management.
Every time we lose in the cup they play as though they have had no preparation or input on the opposition. As though when the final whistle went on Saturday SDs only thoughts were on the CP match.
This can’t be right. It would be better if he took the night off and let IW & TL take charge of the team. Would also do them a favour in case they are needed in an emergency.

If we go and win at Palace, all will be quickly forgotten. That’s the justification for tonight, anyway.

But there’s no excuses now if we don’t show up at Palace.

I have no issue with the team that was put out, it clearly showed that some aren't good enough and will need replacing.

Well I was too young for that but did see us against Orient. Does that count?

Nice assumption, though.

No issues with the team selection. We have 3 big games coming up and have played 3 times a week for god knows how long.

Tonics loss is on the players who were selected. Including, unfortunately, JRod, who missed a sitter.

But more broadly, the ex Chairman & Board, and to a letter extent new Chairman and Board, for failing to recruit a first team player in the last 3-4 windows. In that scenario we are going to have a very weak second string.

But to change the back 5 and the central midfield? You don’t think that’s 2 or 3 steps too far?

Given the fact that traditional replays have been all but scrapped, umpteen substitutions have been permitted, some grounds have VAR in use and some don't, semi finals are now at Wembley, and a PL team was even given permission not to enter the competition one year... then, no, it won't ever be taken seriously again.

Was it hell as like. Bournemouth only got relegated last season. Man for man today they had better players. Billing v Benson? Billing

Lerma v Stephens? Lerma

Steve Cook v Kevin Long? Cook

There's many many more examples.

It’s always ruined my mood to some extent when we lose, just in these shite times that we’re currently living in possibly more so.

It’s the hope that kills you.

Would you still be saying that if Tarks had got injured and missed most of the rest of the season? I doubt it.

We should have signed Phil Jones instead!

EDIT: Great minds and all that, Woking! :D
I would, it’s the fifth round of the FA cup. You don’t and can’t expect your third and forth choice CB’s to play and be up to speed.

Mee or Tarks had to play.

I do but I mean in terms of signings and have said that on many occasions. Mumbongo, Benson, Jimmy Dunne aren't good enough.

We need to be signing younger players who are good enough. The "younger" players we have aren't good enough and tonight's proof

Inevitable that we have 2 camps tonight - the Dyche lovers (mainly the same people as the Garlick lovers, many of whom have now changed their tunej, and the ones who want rid of him if he can’t be bothered in the cups (and a few in between I accept).

I’m in the latter camp. What’s the point? What can I get excited about? The inevitable crude chop down from Kevin Long?

When allowed on, I drive a long way. Without a cup run (or a chance of one) I’d rather Dyche cleared off. A shame, but arch-pragmatists and the “underdog spirit” the new owners want - the two don’t go together. I suspect the owners will realise that before long.

Bardsley, Stephens, Gudmundsson, Rodriguez have years of PL experience. McNeil and Vydra are fans' favourites on here, so of course it was capable of winning the game. Bournemouth made changes from their last game too, I believe.

We lost, get over it, we move on.

Picked the correct team for the game
We would have probably gone out in the next round to either , Of the Manchester clubs, Spurs, Leicester, Chelsea etc from which one of them will win the cup.
Possibly we might have, equally we might also have drawn Sheff Utd/.Bristol City or Southampton/Wolves, and had a glorious chance of a semi-final berth, if not this year with this kindly draw, then when are we going to take the cup seriously, if this had been round 3 I could just about accept it, and sort of understand Sean's reasoning, but it's round 5 FGS, and for all those fretting about our PL status we're well clear of the bottom 3 and won't go down, in fact it's absolutely certain we won't go down now that we're out of the cup, well that's what all the experts on here tell us, if you have a cup run it equals relegation, 9th February and our season is over already, exciting being a Burnley fan isn't it.

I'm not even convinced that Mee or Tarks not playing was the biggest problem tonight. They're great defenders, but they don't usually create our chances.
We were poor as an attacking force tonight, and Jay Rod's miss was the worst of the lot.

9 changes with some key games coming up? Fair enough.

Treating it like a low intensity training game? No thanks.

What happened to "minimum requirement is maximum effort"? That first half was as bad as anything I've seen us serve up for a long time.

I hear your point, but I do think that Tarks would’ve carried the ball more successfully into Bournemouth’s half. This would’ve created momentum. Too many times it for lofted into a channel. Mee at least plays those channel balls with pace and not a sand wedge.

Jay Rod is following Barnes down the busted flush path. Clear both are lacking physically the abilities that made them good forwards in the Premier League.

Tonight was different
It was our reserve side in the main... Wimbledon was 1st team
There are about 9 places between us and a team who were in the same league as us last season
Wimbledon were non league, proper non league, not professional like today... We were near the top of the top division

The way some people are saying tonight's game has effected them, they would not have survived the Wimbledon game

....... Or they could just be over reacting tonight for a bit of attention

We have to take it and move on.

The FA Cup continues to be devalued each season by all the PL clubs.

Supporters are being let down badly and the current COVID restrictions make the situation far worse.

If Bournemouth were to go all the way and win the cup their fans would be devastated in not being present at a Wembley final.

Sitting at home alone watching it on a laptop is so far removed from the spirit of the FA Cup. Upsets no longer really take place.

One of the 1st games I attended at the Turf was the 1975 cup defeat to non league Wimbledon. I think that their goalkeeper's main occupation was as an actor in low budget adult films. His name was Dickie Guy.

Agreed Dressinggown - I watched the link someone shared earlier of the 0-0 with Spurs at the Turf - Coca Cola Cup 1st leg under Jimmy Mullen in the early 90s. Turf Moor was throbbing, we played some great football and the commentators commented on how the home fans must have issued songbooks as the atmosphere was so good - both teams playing full strength teams - it really showed tonight's spectacle for what it was. Behind closed doors, nothing to get remotely excited about.
I've got used to football with no fans a little bit and the league games still have the potential to make or shape a week - but they're so regularly I'm not requiring the fix that a cup run might otherwise provide.
I'm very much of the mind that we need to just get through Covid without any further collateral damage, the takeover is worrying enough.

I don’t have a problem with the team (other than the farcical Pieters selection), but it’s the style of play that’s a killer. We are soooooooooo sh1t to watch. Unable to string passes together unless we’re going backwards before aimlessly hoofing it upfield. The front 2 never had a chance.

Probaly not Elizabeth, it was a huge event when there was little if any domestic club football live on TV, so it was really something look forward to. A full day if you took in the 7 hour build up.
Three or four full games a day on several platforms has diluted the excitement of a live cup match.

Therefore, I only had to suffer watching the final few minutes.

I feel sorry for any fans tonight who feel cheated.
Suggestions that Dyche is sending a message to the club are wide of the mark as is criticism of his tactics.Everyone understands that survival in the PL is a priority but to select the team he did tonight with a chance of the last 8 at stake is hard to swallow
Hi Elizabeth. I would certainly have felt cheated if I had driven up to Burnley to watch that. As soon as I saw the line ups I felt we were going to fail miserably. Having said that if Jay hadn’t have missed that absolute sitter we still may have sneaked through via extra time/penalties, which would have been undeserved. I know Dyche doesn’t take cup games seriously, and as you say a chance of getting through to the quarter finals should have prompted him to play an almost full strength side.
In my opinion Dunne, Glennon, Benson and Mumbongo are nowhere near the standard required to play at Championship level let alone Premier League or the last 16 of the FA Cup. Tonight was unforgivable. But hey, as some are saying we only need to grind out another 15-18 points to ensure our Premier League safety then another season of mind numbing football beckons.

Burnley FC is compulsary
Its just very poor to watch at the min. Something has to change. Next 3 games are key
Were we very poor second half against Brighton?

I would say that's as good a half as we've played all season... but people like you will find fault in everything. You despise Dyche? How long have you been watching us? Five minutes?

One of the 1st games I attended at the Turf was the 1975 cup defeat to non league Wimbledon. I think that their goalkeeper's main occupation was as an actor in low budget adult films. His name was Dickie Guy.
Similar today....but Bournemouth said Ben Dover

Wellsy has got a point. We are generally a horrible watch. Yes we played well second half against Brighton, however that was an exception. Many are happy that we are just existing in the Premier League at the expense of not playing much attractive football. It is tedious and not many people enjoy watching us play apart from just us. Tonight was a golden opportunity to give our fans some optimism in a cup competition. What a disappointment.

Plus we won at Liverpool, had the match of the season against Villa and a very similar team that played tonight dismantled Fulham in the Cup.

Were the wins at Anfield, the Emirates and the comeback against Villa exceptions too?

Short memories, some folk.

Disagree. Tarks, Cork, Pieters played at Fulham. Experienced professionals.

To be fair. Cork is injured and Pieters suspenders

TBF to Dyche I understand why he selected the team he did tonight. The league HAS to be a priority and he also has to get the fringe players some game time so that if and when they're needed he knows whether they're up to it. He wasn't sending any messages except that looking after the fitness of several absolutely key players was his priority. The problem is what sits on the fringe is woefully inadequate and that's not really a surprise.
You're obviously therefore in the camp of the FA Cup being a complete waste of time and effort if you think it right and proper that the game that could get us in the last 8 of the worlds oldest and arguably most esteemed cup competition in the footballing world should be used as an experiment to see if the youngsters are up to it. Incredible. Attitudes like that make me want to walk away from the game altogether.

Yes but I was just pointing out that the team at Fulham was not a similar team to tonight’s. In response to Wokings post.
