Many posters on here praising the club for extending his contract....if hes back up or more likely first choice next season god help us....he was humiliated on that field tonight by lightweights.

Let's have it right now, Kevin Long is dogger and always has been.
Okay he's been a good servant etc etc, but he really isn't anywhere near the level required of a PL footballer. He isn't even Championship standard.

The club wont pay the money required to sign a replacement who is better than him.

Staggers me he’s a premier league footballer. I’ve said it before he looks like he can’t quite believe he’s playing this high himself.

This, Long and Dunne as 4th & 5th choice is fine. The fact they are next in line if one of Mee or Tarks is missing is a jokeVegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 7:33 pmI'm fine with Long being a 4th or 5th choice, I'm horrified he is 3rd

Re: Long
I'm pretty sure long hasn't been given a contract extension with a view to him becoming Tarks replacement (UNLESS we go down). I think he's been given it to keep him sitting around waiting to be called on here and there, but I certainly don't agree with it. Get shut ffs if he isn't good enough for the standard we're at (which he isn't and never has been)
Re: Long
Awful player and clearly not good enough, but it's been the case for 8 years.
The most worrying thing is he has actually gone from.4th choice to 3rd choice in those 8 years, and we have been in the premier league for 7 of them 8 seasons!

Re: Long
If that’s true, I’ll apologise when he’s starting games next season.
In the meantime, I’m sticking with the firm belief that we will get someone in as first choice to replace Tarkowski. The bids / rumours back that up and no one in their right mind would see Long as anything other than back up, in this league.

Re: Long
Considering how many games he has played, personally I question his ambition.
Should have asked to move on years ago to get game time, comfortable waiting for a game rather than playing week in week out.

No need to apologise bud - it was absolutely dreadful!
Tonight was exactly why the minimum expectation in January was a right sided centre half and further emphasises why I think we need to significantly improve our quality in central midfield.

Re: Long
I got absolutely slaughtered on here for questioning Long's ambitions
The truth came out tonight....he hasnt got one,hes on a good thing stealing his 25,000 a week, why would put that at risk asking for a transfer going to another club and being found out for the fake that he is!

Re: Long
How I see it KL is no organiser. He may do OK next to one of our two senior defenders for a few games, but that is about his limit.
He'd be 4th choice except that our 3rd choice is playing for Norwich.

When he's not next to one of Mee or Tarkowski you truly see what positionally inept , slow, marauding lump he really is. Simply not good enough if we want to move forward, which we seem incapable of doing.
Re: Long
Or when their 5 stone 5ft 8 striker got wrong side, s premier league player wins a pen there.
Or when the same player won a long GK punt via a header, to which he then gathered the ball himself with Long no where near him.
It's not a new thing for Kevin, he's been poor for a long time now, and regularly makes mistakes and costs us goals/points.

Re: Long
Dale's non tackle on Billing then our Achilles ball out to the left where our full back had gone AWOL.Then both CBS marking each other led to the goal
Re: Long
Can't blame Long for getting another extension to his contract on reportedly £25k per week.
You're better off asking who agreed it and why.

Re: Long
Bit OTT all this stuff lads.
If the lads inept then blame the people that signed him. I'm sure he gives 100% on the training ground and whenever called on.He can't do more than that.
Admittedly he'd look more at home in League One.

£25,000 x 52 x 8 =£10,400,000 . Not bad is it for a fourth choice backup player ( not built in 2 year extension) !

Re: Long
How do we know this is what he's earning? Can't see it being more than £10pw, in which case it's still an excellent salary but not extortionate for a fourth choice defender for a PL team.expoultryboy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 10:30 am£25,000 x 52 x 8 =£10,400,000 . Re: Long
Agreed.
I think our issue is where we find better quality defenders willing to sit on our bench?
Didn't hear Collins' agent begging for a move in Jan, for example? Players like Ben Davies might go to sit on Liverpool's bench but wouldn't come and sit on ours - he'd have gone Celtic if that didn't materialise. Dawson ditto with West Ham. Gibson is a prime example of someone who forced a move when asked to sit on our bench.
Worth remembering that without regular game time, coming in and playing against an ex-Prem, top 6 Championship team full of players playing week in/week out, motivated by a new manager, must be a tough ask. I watched the United game after and it was exactly the same with their fringe players - very rusty.

Re: Long
Easy for us to say.
Would I question his ambition like you? Yes.
Would I blame him for signing new contracts to stay at a good club where he is settled in a world of very little employee loyalty? No
Would I do the same as him in his position? Most likely.
Re: Long
The way he has been described by a couple of posters on here is embarrasing. I hope the lad hasn't been reading this forum. I have no issues with questioning somebodys performance but some of this is way over the top

Re: Long
I don't blame Kevin Long for anything whatsoever.
How many of you would turn down how ever many £thousands a week he is on?
It's the employer that's the problem, not the employee.

Re: Long
Didn't play particularly well tonight, but don't think he is 'doggers'. We conceded a late penalty, and other when they got down the side of us. Certainly didn't lose the game due to our defence last night.
I think he's always performed well enough when called upon. Not going to be a starting prem CB, but more than good enough to fill a gap
