There's a notion in this thread that around that time period Womens footy was a power player and I'm just trying to give a logical reason why the men's game was more than likely in dire straits at that time.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 12:46 pm

And what do you think the women were doing at that time? Lots of them were putting their lives at risk in munitions factories and doing hard manual jobs usually reserved for men. Literally no one has suggested that women shouldn't be allowed to play football.
Pacey boy puts out a few nice buzzwords and everyone's drooling over it... 'investment' this, 'ai scout' that, 'pro women's team' this..
The facts are - we owe a significant % of money for the first time ever
&
If we go down, we're nackered.
How much infrastructure & wage bill are we going to need to have another professional team? It's not gonna be cheap and as Inchy points out it will be the first thing to go should we go down and if isn't I'd question why because then our priorities clearly wouldn't be on the thing that the vast majority of fans are actually bothered about (and I'd say women supporters as well - notice its always the blokes talking for women on how great this is?), which is the men's team .
I'm very skeptical of Pace and the **** that seems to roll off his tongue

Gordondale, you keep making grand statements about how much better women's football is, numbers are growing, it's better than the men's game., etc. but you never seem to show any stats, examples or back it up; just sweeping statements.

Hang on, these are the same investors. That's what people seem to be complaining about.Inchy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 12:28 pmBut the difference is when investors come into the men’s game they do so in the belief they might get a return, although often not the case. If a men’s teams goes from the championship to the premier league debts are often wiped overnight, like ours debts to Kilby. In the women’s game no matter how much you invest there is pretty much zero chance of getting a financial return
I'm not really convinced by your argument that there's every chance a League 2 club can get promoted to the premier league so that makes them "sustainable" but women's football can never be profitable ever (even though some clubs have made profits) even though attendances are growing, TV coverage is increasing, etc.

Re: Professional women!
"There are plenty of people watching the women's game already", WHAT DOES THAT MEAN IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS?
"There are 195 countries in the world and they all have TV. If only 5% of them take on the women's game, think of the advertising revenue that would be raised." I IMAGINE THERE ARE ALREADY MORE OR LESS 5% OF COUNTRIES WITH WOMEN'S FOOTBALL GOING ON AND IN SOME FORM CAN BE SEEN ON TV, HOW MUCH AD REVENUE IS IT BRINGING IN NOW?
"Some of the women are better than some of the men" WHICH? ARE YOU COMPARING ENGLAND PLAYERS WITH PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE SYSTEM LIKE NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH OR LOWER OR PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS IN CHAMPIONSHIP, etc?

Just for clarity, are you truly comparing like for like women’s and men’s football ? I can think of no other sport where the disparity in ability between the sexes is as profound as football. That’s not to say it can’t be a commercial success if marketed worldwide . Like womens tennis for instance it plays to empty stadia and even the grand slams can’t give tickets away until the semis , BUT sponsorship /gambling etc ensures it’s pretty successful .PeterWilton wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 12:55 pmSaying women's football isnt as good as men's.

Re: Professional women!
The next step is equal pay for the men and womens teams.
This is a hugely positive step but there is a long way to go.
Equal covering on sky and BT is also desperately needed. If that means reducing the airtime of some of the mens football then so be it.
Women are just as good at football as men and until this rampant culture of sexism is eradicated we will continue to live in an oppressive patriarchal society.

You seen the (pre Covid)ticket sales /attendances for women’s only ATP tour events? I was in Dubai few yrs back and an event there was virtually empty . Though as pointed out it works well as a sponsorship model , women’s golf being a lesser but still relevant model .

Cuckolded post of the year and possibly the decade . If you seriously seriously think “ women are just as good as men at football “ you must not only deluded , and detached from reality possibly suffering a complete mental breakdown as well . There are many sports , running , swimming , cycling , tennis ,hockey , badminton, horse racing etc where women are technically as good as the men without a doubt and are “ let down “ simply by their physical strength . In football there are myriad reasons ( hardly the women’s fault ) that dictate that women cannot play the game at anything remotely like the quality men do . It’s a fact rather than an opinionClaretMoffitt wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 2:29 pmThe next step is equal pay for the men and womens teams.

Re: Professional women!
I find your post offensive. Not only do you use toxic masculine sound bites but you also trivialise mental health issues. I'll have you know that I myself have suffered from a mental breakdown and it is now a term you should not throw around brashly on the internet. My wifes boyfriend is a mental health consultant and has much to say on the very real problem of mental health trivialisation, its serious. Also, your "fact" just seems like sexist nonsense to me, tell me... How many times do you see the men rolling around on the floor in games crying? You never see women crying.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 3:44 pmCuckolded post of the year and possibly the decade . Gotta be a wind up merchant Alarge.
Nobody can seriously think women pro players should get 50/60,000 grand a week playing in the WSL as if it's the Prem.
It is not the same level like in a boardroom or a HR manager in one company where the same position in the same company should receive the same money.

Why must that be a wind up? I am not so insecure as to hide away from the fact that my wife has desires and needs and that I cannot always meet. She is an independent and strong woman and is free to explore the world and herself in any way she desires. I am a stable and guiding force in her life and a financial provider for her children. That does not make me less of a man just because she chooses not to have sex with me as much as other men.mill hill claret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 6:09 pmIt must be a wind up ..especially when he referred to his wife's boyfriend

Re: Professional women!
Going back on topic: incorporating the womens team into the club has something like a five year timescale.
I think it will be a boost for womens sport in the area, may encourage younger girls to take up one or more of a variety of sporting activities.
BTW. I think women's football is awful, but that's not the point. In 5 years it may very well have a large global audience.
Can;t agree with pay parity, and that's not likely to happen as it doesn't exist in the mans game.
Can't agree with equal TV coverage, surely this should be related to the level of demand for it.

In your reality is this a legitimate counter to something someone said?

Nobody is demanding pay parity between men and women in the pro game any more than between, say, Kevin Long and Messi — like you correctly alluded to. There's probably justification for equal match fees being paid for international appearances because notions of honour and humility come into international representation, but the pro game is left to market forces. Same for TV coverage. In normal, non-covid times, where every game isn't televised, ManU get more televised games than Burnley for justifiable reasons, and nobody is asking for that of the women's game any more than people are demanding parity of TV coverage between Burnley and UTD on Sky. Just strawman arguments, really.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 7:59 pmGoing back on topic: incorporating the womens team into the club has something like a five year timescale.

It's revealing that the only person on here ironising support for women's football does so by invoking cuckoldry. Interesting, if nothing else, that someone's mind would go there while nobody else's does.
