When you look at the other clubs in the womens championship/PL it's shocking that we don't have a presence. In future, a Womens team will be an integral part of being a successful PL team, I'm sure. Will look forward to watching them play and hearing more on the clubs official channels.

Also really good for the talented young girls across the area, of which I know there are many.

Pleasing that our new chairman is recognising the importance of womens football, esports, etc in building our future.

I don’t enjoy women’s football. I see they now mix in women’s football news and results with the men’s so it not in a separate section for those interested. It’s more of a case of you will like women’s football even though attendances demonstrate interest levels. Having said all that good to have a women’s team to give hope to those that want to play it. Does it need to be professional ? I’m not so sure.

I’ve no issues with women’s football. I’ve no issue with a women’s football team affiliating itself with a men’s team. However, absolutely no funding should come from that created by the men’s team.
Now if the women’s game creates more interest in the men’s game and ticket sales from women go up then it will be worth it funding wise, but if it doesn’t then why should we bother.

If it’s about keeping the female population of Burnley fitter by inspiring them by female footballers then this is something that should be done by the clubs charitable arm

Part of the season ticket could be funding it though when you might be buying it just to watch the men’s team. Diverting any funding away from the mens’s team could mean even less entertainment than now. Prices are only going to go one way too.

What frustrates me about women’s football is the way it’s propped up by the men’s game.

There are plenty of amateur sports out there, that stay amateur because there isn’t the public interest to make it professional. Clay pigeon shooting for example is an Olympic sport but I doubt there are many full time pros knocking about.

It annoys me how some people think women’s football has the right to be propped up by the men’s game. I’ve seen a few articles where female players are moaning because they don’t get any funding unlike the men. If women’s football offered a product attractive to supporters then it could self fund. I don’t mind if they want to affiliate themselves to a men’s team in order to help with this, but ultimately it should be self funded.
As soon as we go down and money is tight it will be one of the first things to go so it’s better for them to sort themselves out

They may well be self funded at Burnley. That might be the plan. But I doubt it

I mean how could anyone be happy to have a women’s team whilst not enjoying it themselves and wanting it to self fund ? A few points.

There is a very strong upsurge in women's football in the area with teams sprouting up all the time.

The team is currently funded through our community side, so funds might be able to be diverted to places needed more.

It will help the club brand grow. On the news more and America loves it. We might even bring star American players over for the publicity and benefit of the team

It was a little sad the town of Burnley produced an English international goalkeeper but had to play for Everton as Burnley had no team.

In better weather they could play on the Turf straight after a game, if we have the Saturday 12.30 slot. Keep the kiosks open. Have a family funday in the fan zone area.

If you are a sports agent why don’t you talk to another sports agent to get the answer to a question that will have been answered by the women’s game decades ago.
Just to clarify Burnley FC has not just invented women’s professional football with this announcement. Just like pregnancy it’s been around for a while !

I would suggest that if you are a sports agent then you should look within your peers for advice on this, and not on a football forum where the majority of the contributors wont have any idea about the subject. Anything Burnley, I'll follow, and the Ladies have done brilliantly over the last 4 years, successive promotions without the financial clout was impressive.
I check for the results regularly so it will be interesting to see how they progress now.

Knock it all you like but from personal experience it really broadens the fan base. Got 2 daughters who’ve never really been onto the turf as a result of the missus witnessing some spectacular scrapping at Carlisle away the one time I took her. Basically she banned them. The women’s World Cup changed all that and there was a mini rebellion in our house.
Personally it’s a green pitch , a ball, 22 players and a chance of an ale. I’m all for it.

Why is this any different to any professional person (man or woman) deciding to put certain things on hold whilst they focus on their career ?
But purely from your football agents perspective it seems like with 99% of your potential clients not being mothers you can just crack on.

Maybe, just maybe, women’s football isn’t targeting neanderthal men stuck in the past, but rather young girls and women.

And I’ve seen the much expected outrage on social media questioning why are we announcing the women’s team going professional, if we couldn’t strengthen the men’s team in January. It’s pathetic. The two aren’t linked and there’ll be two completely separate budgets.

Oh yeah, for the agents it's a nice new field to exploit as publicity of the game grows.
There's a concern about the stigma of having children at clubs as highlighted by the cases in the article, which may affect future contracts, returning to playing at that club. Fortunately, Doncaster Belles helped out the player in the article but it sounds like there aren't many that willing. It does read like it is slowly changing. I agree it isnt any different to other professions but clearly there's a stigma and negatives around having a kid as pro female football player.
