Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
4 changes tomorrow for England as Jimmy, Archer, Bess and Buttler are out.
In come Broad, Foakes and Ali, with the 4th between Woakes and Stone.
I would have Woakes in any England side but Stone is supposed to be very quick. I haven't seen much of him but Archer certainly troubled the Indian batsman with his extra pace.
I'm a little surprised Mo Ali has come back into the side, I didn't think he was mentally strong enough for Test cricket but the 19 full tosses Bess bowled in the last test has seen him dropped.
I think India will give us a bigger turning pitch this time to give them the advantage. They're expected to drop their left arm spinner.

Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
I expect India to come back strongly, especially with fans back in. Our bowling attack certainly looks weaker without Anderson and Archer. Bit of a risk throwing in Moeen Ali as well after so long out of Test cricket.
Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
Not sure if I agree with resting players when we are on a roll, keep the momentum going. If you're on a winning streak don't you just want to keep on playing ?
It's when you can't buy a win that you need a rest.

Brutal to drop Bess after such a convincing win.
Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
They seem obsessed with finding a place for Moeen Ali, going back to the Trevor Bayliss days.

He throws a lot of pies down but has a good habit of picking wickets up.
17 wkts at 22s this year.
They're obviously terrified of India batting first and getting on top of the spinners.

Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
Well! if India bat first I'm not sure selecting Moeen will help much if they get on top, he's just as likely to throw pies as Bess did, and he's bound to be rusty having not played for so long, at least Bess and Leach have overs behind them, and the confidence of taking wickets, so it's a big call, I guess they're thinking Moeen will help to strengthen the batting, but he's hardly been pulling up trees with the bat in recent times either.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 7:57 pmHe throws a lot of pies down but has a good habit of picking wickets up.

Archer is side-lined due to injury, so they don't have any choice, and he might not even have played in this test anyway, and I can see the logic of resting Jimmy, given the 3rd test is a day/nighter, and finally Buttler was always going to return home following the 1st test.
Broad, Foakes, Moeen, and one of Waokes/Stone are decent replacements TBF, and this demonstrates the real strength in depth England now possess, mind you the same can equally be said of India, hence why it should be a great series, India will know they have to strike back immediately, and they won't panic, just as they didn't when they went 1-0 down in Australia, they most definitely have the character and talent to square this series if they play well.

It's all been pre planned has the changing of players, but I agree.
Should be sending the XI out who played last time out, they were brilliant.

Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
3 great wickets for England but Rohit Sharma has been on fire.
Kohli refusing to walk after being clean bowled has caused a bit of a stir.
We need a bit more control from Broad after the break. 103 in a session isn't great, especially when it was 4 overs short.

Just checked and India’s death rate is 112 per million people. Ours is 1707, so about 15 times worse.

A great 100 so far from Rohit Sharma. He's making it look quite easy.
Mo Ali got the big wicket of Kohli but going over 5 an over and bowling plenty of full tosses. He's not really improved on Bess so far. But there's time left to improve.

Bit of a worry now, we’re losing our lines a little and India are feasting. Keep it steady boys.

It’s great hearing a real crowd reacting in real time to the cricket. I must admit it sounded a bit odd for the first few minutes when I have got so used to the “canned” crowd noise.

They announced before the first test that crowds would be allowed, they just didn’t have time to sort it for the first.Cubanclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 7:25 amCrowds?

I was a little surprised, I thought the situation was worse than it actually is over there.

When they said there would be fans in for this game I was expecting it to be a minimal number 1 or 2,000. Quite surprised to switch on this morning and see the ground so full.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 8:39 amThey announced before the first test that crowds would be allowed, they just didn’t have time to sort it for the first.

Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
Channel 4 fallen into line as well. It’s bad enough not having bumble as a commentator/ summariser, but Alistair Cook has so much knowledge and insight to contribute as Strauss , they are pretty good replacements.
Would a male who has only played half a dozen tests for England be invited to be a summariser. No it doesn’t matter how experienced you are and whether you have played with many of the cricketers you are commenting on and have interesting anecdotes. If you are a black woman who has played cricket you will do, so we can tick that box. Pathetic.

Certainly feels more normal.
Not sure how many are allowed on for the 3rd and 4th. Capacity is 110k apparently.

Are you referring to Ebony Rainford-Brent? She's excellent on TMS, really knows the game. Rather her than that clown Boycott.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 9:22 amChannel 4 fallen into line as well. Not sure how many of the current side that 70 odd year old Bumble has played with either to be able to comment on. Same goes for Agnew or Blowers even - not sure the latter even played at a decent level.

Maybe northeast would be happier if she shouted "start the car" and talked more about people in fancy dress instead of the cricket.

They should show the whole passage of play for reviews.
I always thought they did.
As it happens, it's not spoilt what's been a superb days Test cricket.

Eventful day of test match cricket 300-6 on a big turning pitch.
If it was Somerset the pitch inspectors would be taking points.
But as India control the ICC nothing will be said

Re: Ind Vs Eng 2nd Test
Much more like it from India, and on this pitch 300-6 is a fair total, given England will have to contend with batting 4th, however when Rohit & Rahane were going strongly in the early evening it threatened to completely run away from the tourists, but those 3 late wickets have just tilted the balance slightly back towards an even keel, and yet another wicket for Root, he's becoming a more than useful asset in the bowling department these days, crucial 1st session on day 2, if Pant stays in for an hour or two then India will score quickly, and anything over 450 will put them in the box seat, however if England can strike early and finish this innings for 350 or so, then they're still well in the contest, but as is often the case in India the toss does look critical to win.
Bizarre antics from Kohli. how can he not walk after being clean bowled weird, this isn't actually a bad thing that England's batsman will be tested facing runs on the board, this is likely to happen at least a couple of times in Australia come the Ashes, so this should prove a good learning curve, mind you they will need to learn quickly because India won't take any prisoners if they smell blood.

Come on.
I can't be the only daft sod up at 4 to watch this?
Rewarded almost first off with a two quick wickets!
301-8
Great stumping, by the way.

Umpires call, so review is retained.
I see drs is being used properly today. What a surprise when it’s in favour of India. Probably the worst place on The planet in any sport to have home referees.
