The LB conundrum

Post by Newcastleclaret93 » Sat Feb 13, 2021 7:22 pm

Assuming both Taylor and Pieters are not fit on Wednesday, do we go with Glennon or play Bardsley?

Or even potentially Brady? I know he has played there before in his career.

Can Brady play there? We could have no left sided defenders available if Mee is ruled out too.

John Cofie in the youth team looks good. We should give him a chance.

Gibson is doing really well out on loan at Norwich. They're top of the Championship. I think he's probably learnt his lesson now.

Tough one really.

But I think in this game you’d sooner Bardsley. Particularly with Ben mee on that side already out.

You can just imagine. ‘Target the left hand side. They’re weakened down that side!’ Then they see Bardsley.

All for youth getting a go. And don’t like playing players out of position. But I can’t imagine anyone other than Bardsley playing there.

How come Ben Mee is out? Have I missed something?

Lowton & Bardsley. Lowton played some games at Villa as left back, so down to SD how he plays it

If you are seriously suggesting Glennon at LB in the PL you must have either had a lobotomy or been in a coma midweek. Whilst not ideal I’d prefer Bardsley there. Hopefully Pieters or Taylor are fit though as both very good players.

Not saying I want him to play but if our third choice left back can’t get a game when the other two are injured then why are we wasting a wage on him.

He looks more of a left winger to me than an LB from what I’ve seen.

Filling in in the cup. Probably get some money for him if we sell him. Useful in training for 11v11 sessions. Only young and may have a future. Probably on very little.

Glennon was far from our worst performer against Bournemouth.
I feel sorry for these U23 lads when they come in to games that the manager appears not to care about. Lose/lose situation for them.

Fingers crossed Eric is OK, he's been outstanding in this spell covering for Charlie. If he can't make it, it has to be Bardsley.

I'd be amazed if we don't give him at least a week off after coming off with a head injury. I thought that was the rule anyway.

No, the rule relates to concussion. I’m sure it’s already been stated that he was not concussed, but the on field treatment was purely precautionary.

I’m just glad he was up and walking about after seeing him lie on the ground for so long. If he needs some time to fully recover I’ll trust the medical staff, if not, then we’ll find out in the week.

Most likely, I’d have thought. In which case Bardsley at LB, assuming Taylor’s not fit (can’t see how he would be, having not even been on the bench yesterday).

If Mee were fit to play, I’d perhaps give Glennon a go next to a more experienced CB pairing.

Even so, he was clattered in the head and was down for some time. He did look to be out cold too, whether he was walking around later or not. I think the club would be slated for playing him in the next game.

I don’t disagree, I was merely highlighting that no had confirmed actual concussion and I would leave it to the medical staff to assess him.

Maybe the manager doesn't see him as a waste of wage, considering his age and maybe sees some potential.

Not being ready for the Premier League at 21 doesn't make you a waste of a wage

Well no, not pretty obvious was it. All reports at the time stated no concussion and he was fit and well. I was happy to let the medical staff pass judgment and they now have.

If you say so.

Coming off after taking a blow like that and stretchered off in a brace was obvious to me. 8-)

9 times out of 10 the stretcher and brace are precautionary for incidents like that and as it was reported on the night that Ben was NOT concussed and walking around I figured, obviously wrongly, that the medical staff would assess him. So glad you “called it” though, saved them the bother
