Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
That is Burnley finally back to how we expect to play.
The comments against Dyche and team have been justified this season, purely down the fact he has set his standards so high.
Let’s hope we can continue playing this way.
Special mention to Jack Cork. I think he has completely transformed our attacking capabilities.
After having a quick review we scored 10 goals in 18 games without Cork and 7 goals in 5 games with him in the team. Obviously not all down to him, but I think the part he plays in this team is severely underrated.

Perhaps when Roy retires he could be employed on a consultancy basis, by some of the big clubs.
A few lessons in graciously and respectfully accepting defeat, whilst complementing the opposition are definitely in order for too many managers.

Fair play to Dyche for explaining and sticking up for his team selection the other night. An excellent al round effort today.

Well said. Far too many managers of those teams are often only gracious when they win against "smaller" teams and totally lacking in class when they lose to them.

Vindicates his team selection for the FA cup game and he was making the point. Here's one 'happy clapper' who is glad we have him as our manager.

“our most complete performance this season” - sums it up for me, Sean’s words not mine.
Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
Totally agree with your sentiments on Cork. He hasn't done anything that's made anyone get out of their seat but you realise the difference in the team since he's been in compared to Brownhill (who I think is a good player who will improve) is quite astounding.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 8:15 pmThat is Burnley finally back to how we expect to play.

Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
Great performance today although it is easy when the opposition are so abject.
With regard to Dyche saying “you have to say it was a good call because the players looked so strong”.
That ignores the fact that we are only talking about needing to have played Tarky (or Mee) and Westwood last Tuesday. Nobody said the same eleven. That would have been enough to win. Those two players being a little bit more fatigued wouldn’t have made the slightest difference today. A small risk of injury of course, but as Mee showed today injury can strike randomly at any time too.
Tuesday was the more important game for me, as will be shown when we finish about 20 points clear. Credit for today, but I’m not having him trying to wriggle off the hook for Tuesday which is what he is trying to do.

Sean Dyche can't do right for doing wrong, to coin an old Lancashire phrase, with some posters on this site!

Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
Today was just a brilliant performance on every level and one that all Clarets can be proud of. The defending of the clean sheet especially characteristic.
The assumption that we’d have beaten Bournemouth if either Mee or Tarks had played is completely subjective. I think SD’s reference to the game was an acknowledgement to the noise and disappointment that fans felt about it. It’s not about wriggling out of anything - jeez people were calling for his head - It’s not like we were up against a League 2 side. Personally I think he’s made the right call but respectful to those who feel different. To still be having a dig on our team selection that night seems churlish to me. He’s the manager, he’s got a lot to
manage in difficult circumstances, let him manage, he’s doing a bloody good job.

It’s not drivel, it’s just an opinion. Some of us value the cup more than others.
I love Sean Dyche to bits and I appreciate the constraints he has to operate within, but, just once, I’d love to hear him say “I’ve had to rest a few today because we’ve got a big cup tie coming up”.

I know. What a breath of fresh air it would be as well - a manager willing to put having a crack at actually winning something (which, let’s not forget, is kind of the point of football) ahead of earning a few extra quid by finishing a place or two higher in the league.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:14 amAnd he'd be the first PL manager in many a moon to do so, if he did.

Nope. Players needed resting, and the palace game was always the more important one.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:19 amI know. He was entirely vindicated yesterday by the result.
Well done Sean Dyche! UTC!
Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
ah yes, the old “you can’t win back to back tuesday-saturday games with the same team” argument. professional footballers who receive the best treatment there is aren’t able to recover their bodies for a game in 3 days time? ok then.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:22 amNope. After that performance Woy will most likely step down from his role at the end of the season
The hierarchy at Palace would have had the chance to gauge, up close and personal, SD for the potential management vacancy
There's no doubt he would fit their profile

Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
But its not a "playing 2 games in 3 days scenario". Look at the fixtures list and see how many games are crammed into a short period of time. When was the last week that we had no midweek game? When is the next one?
Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play

We were all upset about Tuesday, but its history. Enjoy the moment, 3 goals, 3 points. You can't let the Bournemouth game spoil your Sunday after the performance yesterday.

Fortunately for us, Howe and Lampard are available for free. If they hadn't been, I suspect SD would've been off.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 7:13 amAfter that performance Woy will most likely step down from his role at the end of the season

Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
No I don't. But with the injury situation as it is it is quite feasible to be sucked into a relegation battle.
Anyway my comment didn't have anything to do with what I think about relegation. It was about the fact that the number of games squeezed in a short period of time has an effect on the players. My point was that it is one thing playing 3 games in a week as a one-off but a different thing doing it week in week out. I agree with Dyche that the sensible thing to do for the cup game was to rest a core of players. I am sure that if the injury situation was not so bleak, he would have put out a stronger team but the circumstances were different. As it is yesterday we were down to just 2 strikers as Mumbongo is still very raw. And the left back situation is not that ideal either.

It's not just about recovery though is it !!!?....we have potentially suffered two more injuries to key players yesterday. Why on earth do you think EVERY single PL manager uses squad rotation when it comes to cup ties.

Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
My argument isn’t so much about whether players need resting given the number of games we have to get through, just why does it always have to be the cup games?
The answer comes down to money, and the fact that there’s a lot more of it in the league than the cup. But hey, we’re Burnley, we’re the disrupters. Let’s challenge conventional wisdom.

Hi scouse, yes, money, all that money that football fans want their club to spend on buying, paying and re-signing good football players. There's a very good reason why Sean Dyche protects the team for the Premier League games. Now, if Burnley were an amateur team, playing in an amateur league it may be a little different.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 10:50 amMy argument isn’t so much about whether players need resting given the number of games we have to get through, just why does it always have to be the cup games?

Re: ARTICLE: That’s how I want us to play
To keep other high class internationals happy? I am afraid we do not fit into that category. For what its worth my view is we should have played a full strength team in the FA cup. We would now be in the quarter finals of the cup and without doubt we would have won at Palace as well. It makes me extremely sad that the FA cup with such a great history is being destroyed and fans not giving a hoot about it.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 9:45 amIt's not just about recovery though is it !!!?....we have potentially suffered two more injuries to key players yesterday. Interesting stat from yesterday's game: Burnley are the first team to put out a starting line up that has been older than Crystal Palace this season. The stat had Burnley as close to 200 days older, on average, than the Palace team.
