Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
Just had an enjoyable walk listening to yesterday afternoon's live commentary on Radio 5 via BBC Sounds. As is usual on the BBC (other than the rare occasions when Alan Green is still let loose) an excellent commentary and great summarising from Alan Hutton who is evidently knowledgeable about us and very complimentary throughout.
Other then the reaction to Lowton's wonder-goal I think my favourite bit involved them contrasting the attitudes to the cold weather of the two teams with 9 of our players in short sleeves and no-one in gloves. Jordan Ayew apparently had TWO pairs of gloves on until he took one off in the last 10 minutes !!!

I’d let players wear what they want if makes them more comfortable. If gloves makes a player feel they get that extra yard of pace or whatever, then I’d have no issue with it

It’s worth listening to the 5 Live pre-match interview with Jack Cork talking about the gloves.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:00 pmJust had an enjoyable walk listening to yesterday afternoon's live commentary on Radio 5 via BBC Sounds. Vydra wears gloves but can you imagine Bardsley wearing them...
It’s clearly not a total club ban

Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
Apparently Vydra wears gloves because Oxford shirts are his staple wardrobe item of choice. And anyone who’s tried to button up a shirt after playing football in sub-zero conditions will understand his dilemma.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:26 pmVydra wears gloves but can you imagine Bardsley wearing them...

I can’t find where I read it, but I thought I’d seen that Vydra has a “medical reason” to wear them - a skin issue perhaps. Like I said, not sure where I read it, or if it’s genuine.

Maybe it’s a combination of a medical condition and his love of Oxford shirts.

Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
Same here I listened to it via the Radioplayer app though & the commentary was fair he’d obviously done his homework prior judging by what he was saying, I sometimes prefer listening to the radio because you aren’t stuck in the house & it’s a good excuse for exercise, you are effectively killing 2 birds with 1 stone, it’s nicer when it’s a touch warmer though.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 1:00 pmJust had an enjoyable walk listening to yesterday afternoon's live commentary on Radio 5 via BBC Sounds. It was an excellent piece of broadcasting, although we did have to share reports from Vicarage Road and Carrow Rd.
Then the commentary went global , on the BBC world service, as RADIO 5 live began commentary on a rugby game.

Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
I've never seen it as a problem regarding wearing gloves or extra layers. For me it's what they do on the pitch not what they look like. Many years ago it was extremely long hair, socks rolled down to their ankles and shirts outside their shorts but as long as they could play I wasn't concerned. Often found myself in the minority over this though.
Just thinking back to when Paul Weller of Leicester wore tights. Anyone recall this.

Think you mean Keith Weller, if so yes I remember him wearing white tights.

I remember my Grandads disgust when Burnley announced Chris Waddle as our new player manager because he used to play with his shirt untucked.

I remember Paul Cook, having returned from that strange loan at Wigan, playing for the reserves on a bitterly cold day at Oldham in a short sleeved shirt and gloves.
Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
Defour used to wear gloves and he was our best player at the time. Maybe they should all be made to wear them.

Not that unusual. In my experience this is usually due to poor circulation.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 3:43 pmI remember Paul Cook, having returned from that strange loan at Wigan, playing for the reserves on a bitterly cold day at Oldham in a short sleeved shirt and gloves.

Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
I remember travelling across Reading on 2 buses, to play football, for my primary school team, one Saturday (no softy get a lift then!)
We had to wear school uniform to travel. We changed outside, next to the locked park changing rooms. Played the match with old leather ball, which weighed ten ton. It was Jan/Feb and freezing. White frosty pitch.
I played left wing, in those days of 2 3 5 and you were told to stay out there.
Frozen to the bone.
Got back to clothes after match. Could not feel feet or hands.
Managed to get kit off but boots were a problem. Got shoes on but could not tie laces. Got short trousers on but could not fasten them and got shirt on but could not button it! Coat on undone and just walked to bus stop with kit in duffle bag and holding clothes up and together with arms, as hands still solid.
Teacher had given us return bus tickets, which was all hand could hold.
1-1 in the football!

I know it's not relevant but i thought a bit odd non the less, on my way to work one morning I passed a fella wearing camouflaged trousers and a high vis top !! Did he want to be seen or not ?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 3:43 pmI remember Paul Cook, having returned from that strange loan at Wigan, playing for the reserves on a bitterly cold day at Oldham in a short sleeved shirt and gloves.

I often just listen to the commentary on our games I really enjoy it. On the glove front, until about two years ago never hardly ever wore gloves. I then developed reynauds and now really struggle with this. Maybe reynauds is a huge problem in Crystal Palarse.

Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
Often prefer the Spanish commentary for games especially if the NBCSN co-commentator is driving me mad which is often the case. Yesterday’s was Don Hutchinson who is pretty good so I watched the rerun with the Spanish commentators instead.

We simply just looked more up for it before the ball was even kicked

Hello fellow Reynauds sufferer.
Have you ever tried the battery powered heated gloves? I keep seeing them on Amazon but haven't took the plunge. I generally regret that decision in the JH upper on a Tuesday night match in December with snow swirling into my face.
Re: Radio 5 commentary yesterday....
Not got the heated gloves yet. Woman at work got some and says they are pretty good. I have some thin silver lined gloves that are supposed to help as a liner with another glove. They have helped a bit. It can be a proper pain but in the grand scheme of things with covid and everything it's not a major.Falcon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:46 amHello fellow Reynauds sufferer.

You will all recall players (mainly Arsenal ones I think) wearing snoods. Oh dear. Pleased that thts stopped. Could imagine Dyche's comment if one of his players donned a snood.
