Rovers faint play-off hopes fading even more now

Post by tiger76 » Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:45 pm

So following tonight's fixtures Rovers are down to 10th, but more pertinently they are 12 points shy of Reading in 5th, and even Bournemouth in 6th enjoy a 7 point gap, albeit Rovers do have a game in hand on them, the team to watch in that division are Cardiff, 4 wins on the bounce under Mick McCarthy now, and rapidly closing in on the top 6, but unless they go on a winning spree it looks like yet another campaign consigned to Championship mediocrity for our neighbours, and all this amidst a mounting debt bill to boot, surely the likes of Adam Armstrong will be snapped up by PL sides in the summer, thus making their task all the tougher next season. Such a shame isn't it, to soften the blow they might have the Alan Shearer derby to look forward to next term if Newcastle take the plunge

Let’s see what Stanley can do tomorrow at Donny. Both In form teams but a draw would be decent for Stanley. Oh the joy of seeing an east Lancs derby that doesn’t involve us next season. Mouth watering if fans, as they should be by then, are back. Imagine if that happened and Stanley were above them. I’d be made up for them but also the joy of Rovers not even being East Lancs’ second best would be too much like heaven. 🤣🤣🤣

And if Stanley were to beat them first game up they would have a longer unbeaten record against them than us.
Currently.

If Accy beat them in the league next season and its the result that relegates them the phrase "that's another fine mess you got me into Stanley " should be painted all around Deadwood

I think I'd avoid making an issue of Rovers debt situation for the time being. Their extremely benevolent and long term owners could pay that from the petty cash....a far preferable situation to the one closer to home.

They are allergic to the play offs.

They will start winning again now the pressure is off, but as soon as they can move into the top 6 they will bottle it.

Rover's line up seems to have a very youthful and inexperienced look about it at the moment and is peppered with loanees which may explain why they were overcome by a vastly more experienced and battle hardened PNE last week.

Too true. They only need to go and get wins in their two games in hand and they'll be right back in it.
Reading 12pts ahead in 5th place is irrelevant, (at present), it's that 6th spot that they're all fighting for.

Exactly, history as told us all we need to know about the venkys & the current structure of the other club whereas something else is relatively unknown.

Exactly lets wait and see what our new owners actually do. Thats the big test for them.

Venkys have at least shown some long term commitment and used their own money.

Nah! they're not even that interesting, they are the epitome of mid-table, 10 points off the play-offs, and 11 points above the relegation zone.

They might as well have their end of season party now, not that I'm encouraging parties in the current climate.

10 points off the play offs
11 points off the relegation places

7 pens for and 4 opponents sent off in games this season.
They're flat track bullies, and but for the Pens, reds and Adam Armstrong they would be in big trouble.

Mowbray's a very good manager who's getting the most out of a limited squad.

Turning on him will be as sensible as turning on the Venkys. They're fatally indebted to both of them.

What another fabulous result for Stanley. 4 points from 2 away games at top teams. It’s looking like I might need to be booking my tickets for the home game against Rovers. Pity about 2 recent hiccups but play offs is a big reality now with an eye on auto if the top sides slip up (although Hull after last night don’t look like fading any time soon).

Back to Rovers. Somebody mentioned Armstrong. Defo worth a look. Listen to Radio Lancashire matchdays and it would seem they would be much farther down the division without him. Top player (despite being a bar steward).

Interesting to note that both Ivan Toney and Adam Armstrong were released by Newcastle in 2018, now 1st and 2nd in the Championship top scorer table respectively. At least Joelinton is banging them in for the Geordies eh.

Whether we sign AA or not, I strongly suspect a PL club will snap him up in the summer.

Just seen Rovers next few fixtures.

Forest
Watford
Coventry
Reading
Millwall
Swansea
Brentford
Bristol City
Norwich

Given their poor record against good sides I can't see them collecting many points out of those games, certainly not enough to put into top 6 contention anyway.

Liverpool told them to rest Harvel Elliot more. If he has to miss a lot of the remaining games they will struggle to keep mid table.
