Best (ugliest) goalie shirts

Post by tarkys_ears » Wed Feb 17, 2021 1:50 pm

Some fine shirts out there in my younger days, the 90s goalie kits were something special to behold.

My two favourite goalkeepers by some distance...

Wasn’t it Mitre that blatantly copied that Danish Hummel shirt?

Remember Marlon wearing one very similar

Edit just found it :D

We had some ‘loud’ ones in the 90’s.

They do. Complete with elbow pads and a collar!

Shall we pander the club to get one for next season?

Someone get Daz Bentley on the blower!

who buys goalkeepers shirts these days anyway? if manufacturers started using designs like these again people might actually buy them!

My son...but I hate them. However, I can't tell a 7 year old that :)

That Beresford shirt was the first I was ever bought to play in goal at school. I remember the shoulder pads being way way way too big for me :D

I'm well on board in getting the club to press Umbro for a loud goalkeeper shirt. I think Pope would look quite fetching in a Mexico 94 goalie shirt ;)

Also, when did boots with flap over tongues get phased out? You don't see them anymore.

We bought full keeper kit for Christmas for nephew.

Was more than worth it to see his little face when he opened it

Yeah we've got umbro at the moment... I forgot

Their 90s kits were louder than my missus when she's on the phone!!

Needs to happen, start a petition!

The Marlon rainbow shirt is one of the greatest ever goalie shirts. I would love it if they brought it back.

Didn’t stop every Tom, Dick and Harry scoring past us left right and centre though :)

I think the volume attracted the ball towards the net

I remember being given an adult sized Seaman Euro 96 top when I was 10 playing in goal for St Stephens primary, I was only a small kid, had to roll the sleeves back 4/5 times and the top went down below my knees. Still the extra padding was a blessing diving around on Towneley playing fields.

I can't find a photo of him modelling, but I always remember my mate describing The Beast as looking like a fat Oscar while wearing this.
