John Moss last night
I thought he refereed the game well last night. There were very few decisions he didn’t get right. However, his lack of movement caught him out once when the ball hit him. What do you think.

Re: John Moss last night
Refereed it well but not a difficult game to ref - the yellow card he gave Loftus-Cheek might have been a red with another ref but I've no issue with it.

He did ok, but if Barnes had scored at the end we would all be fuming. There was no foul by us. Re: John Moss last night
I think the fact Taylor was also stretching to get the ball probably saved him. Had Taylor been in control of the ball, that's a red. Certainly seen them given.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 1:33 pmRefereed it well but not a difficult game to ref - the yellow card he gave Loftus-Cheek might have been a red with another ref but I've no issue with it.
The handball could also have been a pen in my view. On the basis that the ball had travelled a long way and it actually hit his hand (not his arm). Would have been harsh though.
Overall though, very decent performance. Cannot complain.

Re: John Moss last night
The only decision apart from their keeper pushing Cork and getting a free kick at the corner, which stuck out was I think Dwight winning a header on the left edge of box after a corner clearance. Their player jumps for the ball but clatters into him late.
But he let the game flow and only 2 questionable decisions is pretty good going I think.

Re: John Moss last night
Should’ve sent Brady off for the pull back. We got lucky with that one.

I thought the Brady challenge was far worseClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 1:33 pmRefereed it well but not a difficult game to ref - the yellow card he gave Loftus-Cheek might have been a red with another ref but I've no issue with it.
Re: John Moss last night
Must say je did ok, nothing really to referee, just lots of falling around that can go either way, but wasnt actual much to do in terms of making the right calls.
Standard game.

Re: John Moss last night
The handball, the goalie push at the end, the loftus-cheek incident
He did have a good game, let it flow nicely and let us off with Brady but they were a lot of MAJOR incidents he got wrong.

Re: John Moss last night
Brady’s was quite similar to Barnes assault on Matic the other year.

Re: John Moss last night
I’m not a fan but no problems last night. Very easy game to ref with two sides that don’t go out to kick lumps of each other.
Re: his weight. He doesn’t look good for a professional ref but they are tested and he must be passing the tests.

Re: John Moss last night
Did the whistle go before or after Barnes's attempt? If it was before, then VAR would not have been used like at Leeds.
Re: John Moss last night
Failed to give their lad (Decordova-Reid?) a booking for kicking the ball away.
Not a major issue, but a clear error, with no room for a subjective approach.
Did well, on the whole, though.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't like him but he did OK. It wasn't a difficult game to Ref. Don't think that the ball hitting him was his fault.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 1:33 pmRefereed it well but not a difficult game to ref - the yellow card he gave Loftus-Cheek might have been a red with another ref but I've no issue with it.

Re: John Moss last night
Just taken another look and I don't think he ever blows, he just turns and points but there is no foul, Cork is just standing his ground which he is entitled to do.summitclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 2:40 pmDid the whistle go before or after Barnes's attempt? Re: John Moss last night
On the Barnes chance the whistle goes 100% before the ball goes out of play. This caught my attention last night so watched it a couple of times and you can definitely hear the whistle before it goes out of play, which annoyed me because if it had gone it then the goal would have been ruled out as VAR wouldn't have been able to intervene.

Re: John Moss last night
I've just watched it again. He points with his right arm but doesn't move his left so he cannot have blown his whistle from what I can see.claretburns wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 2:55 pmOn the Barnes chance the whistle goes 100% before the ball goes out of play. I don't think he SHOULD have sent Brady off (as mentioned above), but I felt he really COULD have sent Brady off and I was momentarily worried. I honestly think he got that right and overall did really well for a guy who doesn't have the best of reputations.

He could have done for that second one, you see those given as yellows.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 3:53 pmI don't think he SHOULD have sent Brady off (as mentioned above), but I felt he really COULD have sent Brady off and i was momentarily worried. Re: John Moss last night
Absolutely. it was a clear tug back after the guy had easily skinned him and i feared the worst. I honestly think that for all the debate around our "subbing of the sub" that Dyche decided he'd been very lucky and was one petty foul away from walking and acted accordingly.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 3:54 pmHe could have done for that second one, you see those given as yellows.

Re: John Moss last night
Not for one second do I think Dyche did that, he's never hinted at doing that in the past and I don't think anyone would have considered that had the commentator not mentioned it. They were monitoring him and you could clearly see, even before that potential second, that he was struggling and we were trying to get Brownhill on.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:05 pmAbsolutely. it was a clear tug back after the guy had easily skinned him and i feared the worst. Re: John Moss last night
Loftus cheek kicked the ball
away not long after he was booked
that was another yellow card and Moss
bottled it

Often too far away from the ball to make the correct decision. Apart from the times it hits him.

Re: John Moss last night
That's as maybe, but Brady had a red card nailed to his back last night. Certainly didn't need a commentator to make me think so.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:07 pmNot for one second do I think Dyche did that, he's never hinted at doing that in the past and I don't think anyone would have considered that had the commentator not mentioned it. Re: John Moss last night
Lowton did the same and nothing was done, so at least he was balanced.
I agree that they should be yellows for unsportsmanlike conduct, as should standing by the ball to delay FKs.

Re: John Moss last night
On another day both Brady and Loftus-Cheek could have seen red, thankfully he used his common sense and let the game flow which many refs don't do nowadays. Certainly nothing major to gripe about for either side that I can see, and I'm not normally a Moss fan, but he did fine last night.

Re: John Moss last night
Relatively easy game to control. Both sides would have taken a point before the game which lacked intensity. Always gives me the impression that the likes of Burnley and Fulham are beneath him and would much rather be on first name terms with the bigger clubs. But he was generally okay last night.
