Sunderland get 23 year old chairman
Takeover at Sunderland has been completed - Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, who is 23, has bought a controlling interest and has been installed as the new chairman.

He's worth some coin though, dad was a billionaire before he passed away and used to own Marseille I think it was.
Not sure what the attraction is with Sunderland, unless it's because they're a cheap buy and already have things like the stadium and training facilities...

Perhaps getting to Wembley again swung it.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:38 pmHe's worth some coin though, dad was a billionaire before he passed away and used to own Marseille I think it was.

Lets hope the Mackems finally get someone who can revive the team
They are great fans who have been shafted by some inept board members over the past few years.
It was always a great place to visit with friendly football fanatical supporters

Fanatical yes, but in the Premier League so long they just wanted someone to come in and spend, spend, spend on players. They live in that same big club fantasy world as Newcastle.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:57 pmLets hope the Mackems finally get someone who can revive the team

Also some staggering financial numbers on this in regards to losses of £35 million pa.
Re: Sunderland get 23 year old chairman
I think the term big club is banded around too much but Sunderland for me, fall into that category. A real sleeping giant, it would be interesting to see just how many fans Sunderland/Newcastle could pull for home games if the sides were competing at the very top. The catchment area is huge and only really 3 teams competing for local fans. Weirdly I didn't know Middlesbrough was considered Yorkshire until recently.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:38 pmHe's worth some coin though, dad was a billionaire before he passed away and used to own Marseille I think it was.

Nearly 85 years since they last won a top flight title.KRBFC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 5:18 pmI think the term big club is banded around too much but Sunderland for me, fall into that category. Over 40yrs since their last trophy of any note.
They're just another bang average club but they have the advantage of having a large catchment area, one club city etc.
They're certainly deluded though.

Interestingly on a recent TV quiz Hull City was classed a North East Club ......KRBFC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 5:18 pmI think the term big club is banded around too much but Sunderland for me, fall into that category. Re: Sunderland get 23 year old chairman
To be fair I’d like to see another series of Sunderland ‘till I die which sees them gain promotion.
Despite being a bigger club (supporterswise) than ours, the club also seems to be close to the local community, and despite their demise during the past years, success on the pitch will bring a lot of joy to people living in difficult circumstances

Re: Sunderland get 23 year old chairman
One of my best mates is a Sunderland fan and lives in the city. They are, to some extent, a larger version of us. The football club is the main focus of the place just like our club is, they are so passionate about their club. He refuses to watch STID on Netflix as do a lot of Sunderland supporters.Belgianclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 5:35 pmTo be fair I’d like to see another series of Sunderland ‘till I die which sees them gain promotion.

If trips to Wembley are what's needed to attract billionaire owners, we've no chanceSilkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 6:08 pmBeat Lincoln in the semi final last night on penalties.

Re: Sunderland get 23 year old chairman
27 years though....
I'd have gone 4 in 33 years to be honest. One trip every 8 and a quarter years instead of one in 9.

It was in the old North Yorkshire Riding. In the days when you could only play cricket for Yorkshire if you were born in the county, Chris Old played for them and he was from Middlesbrough.

Re: Sunderland get 23 year old chairman
The new owner has dispensed with the services of the CEO this morning with his twin brother expected to get the job. Apparently, the new chairman is moving to live in the area. My mate has just said to me: "A Frenchman in Sunlun, oh the culture he's going to enjoy ".
