Ryan Shawcross leaves Stoke City after 14yrs.

He's off to join Inter Miami
14 yrs at one club is quite an achievement, majority of it as captain.
Good luck to him.

Would have been a pretty good signing 7-9 years ago. Him and Darren Purse I always thought would fit in here.

He was a formidable presence in both boxes especially the opposition box, when Rory Delap was slinging those bombs in from throw ins.

He's just come up as an answer on pointless.

Fergie rated him, Utd had a buyback clause on him I think, or first option if he was sold.warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 7:10 pmThink he got an England cat too (ex Man Utd of course), and yes some player about 10 years ago

Been a terrific player for Stoke for a long time until injuries took over. I think he scored the first Premier League goal against us.
They gave him two sub appearances in December to get him over 400 league appearances for the club.

We were definitely in for Shotton virtually every window when Eddie Howe was manager.JohnMcGreal wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 8:34 pmWas that not Ryan Shotton? We seemed to be in for him for several windows once upon a time.
There was a weak link with Shawcross a couple of years ago but I think that was probably down to the number of players we have signed from Stoke.

Yes his England career lasted 16 minutes when he came on as a 74th minute substitute for Steven Caulker (I kid you not) against Sweden..warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 7:10 pmThink he got an England cat too (ex Man Utd of course), and yes some player about 10 years ago
Sadly for Ryan, Zlatan netted a 16 minute hat-trick against him.
There was to be no recall.

Quite an achievement for a player to serve such a lengthy spell at one club in this day and age, and he'll rightly be remembered as a legend at Stoke.
I suspect he won't be the last ageing pro to make the move to Miami either.

Funny you mention Shotton being at Melbourne Victory, I spotted his name on Wiki last night as I was looking to see where Steve Kean was these days. He is their assistant manager. Rudy Gestede, Jacob Butterfield and Callum McManaman also play for them.

I see Inter Miami are quickly losing their club ethos after only one season. I could be wrong but I thought they wanted their training sessions to be in Spanish and to sign exciting players from Mexico/South America? In the space of two months they've appointed Phil Neville and signed Ryan Shawcross
