The none meltdown thread....

Post by dandeclaret » Sat Feb 20, 2021 5:22 pm

Anybody want to join in? Pretty horrid watch that, looked as though the players were gassed out.

I don’t think there’s ever been a good game of football in the wind has there?

I don’t like Dwight in the floating role, we don’t have a consistent outlet, but can see why they did it, when there’s no creativity anywhere else. Brownhill works hard, but does lack quality. I thinks it’s the little things, passes are in to people, rather than into their runs. Up top, Jay works well with either of the first choice pairing, but him and Vydra are totally ineffective at this level.

A week off now and time to refresh and then go again, main aim is to stay up, and that should be achieved. Another successful season then, in very tough, trying circumstances.

A point wouldn’t have been terrible before the game started, so ignoring the context of the man advantage and horrendous performance that’s where we’re at. We should have lost the game so the point is a bonus. Real chance of cementing our safety not taken though.

5 points from the last 3 games is an OK return and about what I expected.

I agree, I do wonder if they mentally relax a bit when an opponent gets sent off and then they start misplacing passes. Just a thought.

It was a tough watch but I have still got a beer or two left. I might go and give the wife the pleasure of my company now.

If I pretend to be cheery, I might trick myself.

On another note, it appears Preston lost 4-0 and missed 2 penalties.

Players dead on their feet today, it’s obvious that the number of games in a short time is taking a toll. The weather was terrible, and the ball just didn’t behave on the ground today.

I thought Dyche on 5 Live was honest and pragmatic, they appeared to egg him on to moan about VAR for the handball for a penalty, but he was having none of it - just stated that we were well below our own standards.

We need the rest now, and hope some players come back from injuries to help out with the depth of the squad.

Dyche was honest and clearly upset with his team. However he needs to be braver in setting up to win games!

Easiest acca selection all day them losing at rampant Mick McCarthy’s Cardiff.

As was Barnsley winning at Bristol City.

Sorry Dan, this type of post will just not do. No mention of, at least, 5 players not being able to get in the local pub side? Dyche not good enough to manage an under 8's team? No mention of binning Pace? I think you need to take a long, hard look at yourself

I think he only had 1 option Nick, the Burnley fan favourite if a full back out wide so Lowton moved up and Bardsley in behind at full back. I don’t think there were any other options were there?

I'm not sugar coating that because that was the worst we have played in a loooooong time. But we should have lost and didn't so I will take it.

I do think we look a bit leggy. Definitely against Fulham where I think we dominated for 70 mins but ran out of steam. Had they not ragged a deflection we would have won that and got 7 out of 9.

We desperately needed strengthening in summer but our chairman was too busy fattening the golden goose for sale. Now we have a bit of a struggle if we can't get some of our injuries back. But we should have enough to stay up.

I think Ash would have made a difference today - like Dan says Jay and Vydra seem to struggle together but hopefully it will make those who think Wood is rubbish realise that he's our best striker and a key player for us.

I will re-iterate...

15 games in 6 weeks... threadbare squad, basically just kids on the bench ... a BFS team fighting to maintain its PL status in terrible conditions...

We got a point, Pope got a clean sheet...

We have 8 days off to get bodies back on the bench...

We are on 28 points 9 points ahead of Fulham who play a desperate Sheff U tonight...

I have a few more beers in the fridge...

There are a couple of steaks nicely defrosting and a nice Rioja coming up to room temperature...

Lifes too short to get too upset ...

Thank god some sense & not the hissy fits being thrown by the sky/prem fans on the other thread, feel very embarrassed that Burnley fans are calling for SD to be sacked when we are grinding our way to prem survival with a injury hit squad & players who look to not have much left in the tank. I’m pretty sure the fans of the 5 teams below us would love to be in our position. If were really honest we go into every season hoping to amass at least 37/38 points pretty much like 13 other teams in the prem & survival.

No I don't think he did. So eon the match thread were talking about brini g on Benson but that would have been suicide in that game.

Maybe just maybe we might have pulled on Long for Westwood and pushed the fullbacks into wingback roles with Browngill dripping central and pushing mcneill further up behind the front too (or maybe pull mcneill and have mumbongo as part of 3 up top)

But that's v experimental

Woeful performance. As others have said players looked dead on their feet. Injuries have been never ending this season. No real options to change the game. Anger should be to Garlick and Co for 3 seasons of neglect. Staying positive we will stay up and then a big summer. One thing is for sure without some additions, next season could be a bridge to far with relegation the result. UTC

Another point that’s just popped into my head.... when Burnley hammered Palace, this board was like a ghost town. As soon as there’s something to whinge about, there’s enough electricity to power the national grid. It’s an interesting human study.

For sure we will play better & lose!
As may have said, the week off will help us big time.
Hard to imagine its mostly the same players that destroyed Palace 7 days ago.
Get to 36 / 37 points and prepare for reinforcements in the Summer.

I wasn't paying 100% attention to SSN but I think it was the same penalty they missed twice - sure I heard them say it was a re-take.

No, just read the report. It was two penalties, Gallacher was fouled trying to get to the rebound after his miss.

Well today was utterly shocking but not for the reasons you might think
Yes we played badly
Yes we deserved to lose
Yes West Brom are dreadful and had conceded 55 before today
Yes we had zero shots on goal
Yes we were exhausted
But none of the above are why today was shocking

What is shocking is that both our previous and current Chairmen thought that our squad was big enough and had enough quality to play a full premier league season

As today proved they were 100% wrong. The Premier League is a squad game. Not having 16 or 17 players who play week in week out. In previous seasons we have been very fortunate with injuries. This season has been more normal and it has demonstrated the massive weaknesses in our squad. Hopefully we will survive but whether or not we do the warning signs are there for all to see.

Am enjoying the Rioja perfect temp 👍...

Mrs BC has just cooked a belter...

Stuffed Mushrooms (starter) followed by Steak, roast tomato's, onion rings and chips 👍...

Yup the day is definitely on the up (apart from the sh*te on offer from BBC & ITV 🙄)

This summer is an absolutely vital window, and yes I know that's been said for several windows now, but this next one is make or break, and if we don't get 3/4 quality signings over the line that can offer genuine competition for our starting XI, then I'm afraid I really fear for us next season, the squad is rapidly ageing, and it's likely both Gibson & Tarks will be sold, Brady will hopefully be released, and possibly Bardsley too, so there should be space for new signings once they move on, ideally we need 2 centrebacks, right back as cover for Lowts, right winger with pace, and my marquee signing if we make one would be a creative type in midfield, today was exactly the type of game where our lack of inventiveness cost us big time, and it's not the first time this has been a concern this season.

I'm still confident we'll stay up, but we're sailing closer to the wind with every passing window, and eventually our lack of depth will tell on us if we don't strengthen significantly this summer.

Well if we stay up they won’t be 100% wrong, they’ll be 100% right.

Of course we’re lacking quality and I think everyone knows this. But how big a squad do you think we should be carrying? With 6 (I think) first team players out injured a club like ours is going to be short of options on the bench, that’s just the reality. We can’t afford to insure against such a freak injury list by carrying additional players.
